Abstract - Essay type, not exceeding 600 words. Should outline the problem, methodology used for tackling it and a summary of the findings

Acknowledgement- Brief and should not exceed one page in double spacing.

Table of Contents -Should list all the materials that follow and precede it. The titlepage, Bonafide certificate and Acknowledgement will not find place in Table of Contentsbut the page numbers of the same should be in lower case roman letters.

List of Tables -The list should use exactly the same caption as they appear above thetables in the text. 1 1/2 spacing should be adopted for typing matter under this heading

List of Figures - Same rule as 6.5

List of Symbols, Abbreviations and Nomenclature = 1 1/2spacing. Standard symbols, abbreviationsetc shouldbe used

Chapter - The chapters may be divided into 3 parts (i) Introductory chapter (ii) Chaptersdeveloping the main theme of the project (iii) Results, Discussion and Conclusion

The main text may be divided into several chapters and each chapter may befurther divided into sub chapter.

. Each chapter should be given an appropriate title

. Tables and figures in a chapter should be placed in the immediate vicinity ofthe reference where they are cited. .

. Footnotes should be used sparingly. They should be typed single space andplaced directly underneath in the very same page. .

Appendices

. .$hould be numbered using Arabic numerals, e.g. Appendix 1, Appendix 2 etc

. Tables and references appearing in appendices should be numbered andreferred to at appropriate places just as in the case of chapters

List of References -A paper, a monograph or a book(Bibliography) may be designatedby the name of the first author followed by the year of publication, placed inside bracket. All references mentioned in the list of references must be cited at the appropriate place ofthe project report. . .Biblioaraphv : .Jenkins G.M. and Walts D.G., 'Spectral Analysis and its Applications' Sanfrancisco, CA,Holder Day. (1968)References:Stanley P. and than F.S, "Thermo-mechanical analysis of shoulder joints". Int. Journal ofFracture Mechanics, Vol 1, pp 200-210 (2009)For references having more than three authors, name of the first author followed byet al should be used in the text while in the Refences all the authors must be given.

Page 8: ME Project Format

Tables and Figures -Tables and figures that are half page or less in length may appear00 the same page along with the text. However, they should be separated from the textboth above and below by triple spacing.

. . All tables and figures should be prepared on the same paper or materialused for preparing the rest of the report

. Two or more small tables and figures may be grouped if necessary in asingle page

. Captions for the tables should be written above the table and captions forfigures should be written below the figure.

INTRODUCTION

Division heading 1,1 OUTLINE OF THESIS

Sub-division heading 1.1.1 Literature Review

The word CHAPTER without punctuation should be centre justified 50mmdown from the top of the page. Two spaces below, the title of the chapter should betyped centrally in capital letters. The text should commence 4 spaces below this title, thefirst letter of the text starting 20mm, inside from the left hand margin.

The division and subdivision captions along with their numberings should be leftjustified. The typed material directly below division or sub-division heading shouldcommence 2 spaces below it and should be offset 20mm from the left hand margin.Within a division or sub-division paragraphs are permitted. Paragraph should commence3 spaces below the last line of next paragraph. the first letter in the paragraph beingoffset from the left-hand margin by 20mm.

NUMBERING INSTRUCTIONPage Numbering

All page numbers (whether it be in Roman or Arabic numbers) should be typedwithout punctuation on the upper right hand corner 20mm from top with the last digit inline with the right hand margin. The preliminary pages of the thesis (such as Title page,Acknowledgement, Table of contents etc.) should be numbered in lower case Romannumerals. The title page will be numbered as (I) but this should not be typed. The pageimmediately following the title page shall be numbered (ii) and it should appear at the topright hand corner as already specified. Pages of main text, starting with Chapter 1 shouldbe consecutively numbered using Arabic numeralsNumbering of Chapters, Divisions and Sub-Divisions

The numbering of chapters, divisions and sub-divisions should be done usingArabic numerals only and further decimal notation should be used for numbering thedivision and sub-divisions within a chapter. For example sub-division 4 under division 3belonging to chapter 2 Should be numbered as 2.3.4. The caption for the sub-divisionshould immediately follow the number assigned to it

. Everychapterbeginningwiththefirst chaptershouldbeseriallynumberedusingArabic numerals. Appendices included should also be numbered in an identical mannerstarting with Appendix 1.Numbering of Tables and Figures

Tables and figures appearing anywhere in the thesis should bear appropriatenumbers. If a figure in Chapter 3, happens to be the fourth then assign Figure 3.4 to thatfigure. Figure 2 appearing in Appendix 3 should be numbered as A 3.2

If a table to continued to the next page this may be done, but no line should bedrawn underneath an unfinished table. The top line of the table continued into the nextpage should, for example read Table 2.1 (continued) placed centrally'and-underlinedNumbering of Equations

Equations appearing in each Chapter or Appendix s.houldbe numbered serially, the numbering commencing afresh for each Chapter or Appendix.

, For example eighth equation appearing in Chapter 2 .should be\

C(s) G1G2= ( 2.8)

R(s) 1 + G1G2H .

While referring to this equation in the body of the report, it should be referred toas Equation (2.8)

BINDING SPECIFICATIONS

Thesis submitted for B.E IM.E. (2 copies) should be bound using flexible coverof thick white art paper, The spine for the bound volume should be of black Calico of20mm width, The cover should be printed in black letters and the text for printing shouldbe identical to what has been prescribed for the title page.Font and Font size

Heading - Times New Roman - size 14

Sub heading and running material- Times New Roman - size 12

Running Material - 1 % spacing

6.11 List of References - Any works of other researchers

are used either directly or indirectly the origin of the material

thus referred to at appropriate places in the thesis should be

indicated. A paper, a monograph or a book may be designated

by the name of the first author followed by the year of

publication, placed inside brackets at the appropriate placesin the thesis should be indicated. A paper, a monograph or

a book may be designated by the name of the first author
