What is conventional about this front cover?

Main Image:On the front cover it is conventional to have a large image in the centre where you are able to see their facial expression’s and their clothing. Also, on pop magazines it is conventional to use a well known artist or a new and upcoming artist. All of these features are to draw in the reader’s attention. Cover Line:

Having a cover line is conventional because it attracts the readers attention about what the main story will include. Also, having It in a box out such as a ‘love heart’ makes it stand out more which is attract the target audience even more.

Font:The typography used on this front cover San’s serif is the font they use on the front of this magazine which is conventional because it catches the readers attention whilst on the shelf. This is good for the target audience because young teenagers normally go for something that look’s interesting rather than dull and boring.

Extras:On every magazine is it conventional to have a barcode so that the people wanting to buy it are able to find out how much it is going to cost. However, on a pop magazine it is conventional to have the barcode at the bottom of the front cover. Also it is conventional to have an issue number of the magazine.

Box out:Having a box out, draw’s attention to a certain story. This box out off offers exclusive pictures, and age related activities which would relate to the target audience because they would want to buy the magazine to see what pictures they are.

Masthead:The masthead for the front cover is conventional because it attracts the audience to the page. The typography for the masthead is sans serif which is also conventional to a pop magazine because it catches the eye of the reader.

Route of the Eye:This front cover is conventional because it has followed the rule of Route of the Eye. They have the masthead along the top, the main image, then finally posters in box outs along the bottom. The purpose of this is so that the reader can gain all the important information at first glance. Also all the main information is in the Left third.

Posters:Advertising posters inside a magazine is conventional because the target audience believe that they are getting something ‘free’ which is more than they are paying for. Also having posters of music artists introduces people to new people so when they are put on the front cover they recognise them.

Colour: The colour scheme for the front cover is very conventional because they use upbeat and exciting colours such as pink, and light blues. Also using bright colours such as Yellow for box outs make them stand out.

How is my front cover conventional?Masthead: The typography for my masthead is conventional because it is in Sans Serif font which stands out . Also its in a large font at the top, which make’s it bigger than anything else on the page so it can catch the readers attention.

Articles: On the front cover the articles are conventional to a pop magazine because they are relates to the Psychographic of my target audience such as talking about fashion and celebrities.

Font: The typography used on my front cover San’s serif is the font they use on the front of this magazine which is conventional because it catches the readers attention whilst on the shelf.

Main Image:The main image on my front cover conventional because it is a large image in the centre where you are able to see their facial expression’s and their clothing. On my image, you can see what she is wearing, and also what make up she has used.

Route of the Eye:My front cover is conventional because it has followed the rule of Route of the Eye. I have put have the masthead along the top, the main image, then finally the main story line along the bottom. The purpose of this is so that the reader can gain all the important information at first glance. Also all my main information is in the Left third.

Extras:My front cover is conventional because I have put barcode so that the people wanting to buy it are able to find out how much it is going to cost. I have also included an issue number which is conventional so that the buyer is able to know what issue they are purchasing.

Colour:The colour scheme on my front cover is very conventional because I have used feminine colours such as pink and blue which relate to my target audience.

Language:Using shortened sentences such as “I cant believe it” and “Love affair revealed” draws the readers attention because its only giving them a snapshot of what is it come. This is why my magazine is conventional to the pop genre.

What is conventional about this contents page?Masthead:Having the masthead on the contents page is conventional because it allows the reader to recognise what magazine they are reading from. Also “Inside the mag” doesn't directly insinuate that its a contents page, but you can tell from the layout. It is also conventional because it attracts the readers eye. The typography used for the masthead is serif font which makes it more exciting to read.

Main Image: The main image for this contents page is conventional because they are both well known in the celebrity worlds which means it more likely a teenager who knows about them will want to read it. Also, if they enjoy what's on the contents page they will want to read on. The camera angles are also conventional because they are mid shots.

Colour:The colours on the contents page are unconventional to what they are usually. They are blue, which is more of a masculine colour, which isn’t very eye catching.

Text:The text on this contents page is conventional because it is in a small font which is conventional for a pop magazine. Also there is a letter from the editor which informs the readers what to expect within the issue.

Other Pictures:All the other images scattered around the contents page is conventional because it gives of a busy and exciting tone. Also all of the pictures are of other celebrities which the target audience can relate to. It is also conventional to have a picture of the editor on the front cover so the reader is able to see who wrote the issue. This is why this contents page is conventional.

Captions:It is conventional to caption pictures on a contents page so the reader is able to look at the picture and if they want to read it turn straight to the page.

Numbers: Having the page numbers at the bottom of the contents page in bold and a striking colour is conventional so that the reader is able to find what page they want to read. Also, as my magazine is aimed at 12-16yearolds they have a short attention span so the main information has to stick out.

How is my contents page conventional?

Masthead: The masthead on my contents page is conventional because it is in serif font which makes it exciting to read. Also it is at the top of the page it a bright colour (pink) which means it stands out from the rest of the text.

Images: The images on my contents page are conventional because they are well know pop artists which my target audience can relate too. I also have a picture of the editor as it is also conventional to have a picture of the editor so the reader can see who has written the issue.

Captions:My pictures are conventional as they have captions on them which means the reader can find the page they are looking for straight away.

Colour:The colour scheme on my contents page is conventional as it has feminine colours such as yellow and pink. Also there is an even amount of both colours which is conventional because you can’t have one colour over powering the other.

Text: The text on my contents page is conventional as it is in a serif font which is easy and exciting to read. Also i have text from the editor which is conventional so the reader is able to see what the issue involves.

Number: My page numbers are conventional as they are in a bold font at the bottom of the page where the readers are able to find the information quickly. Also they have a subheading beside them which is also conventional as it gives of a little piece of information about what is going to appear on that page.

Extras: The extra’s on my contents page such as the masthead in the corner of the page is conventional as it gives the reader ability the remember what magazine they reading. Also having page numbers at the bottom of the page is conventional because the reader is able to see what page they are on.

What is conventional about this double page spread?Images:The images on this double page spread is conventional because it is of a well known artist all around the world. Also the main image is on the left hand side of the page which is conventional for a pop magazine.

Kicker:Having a kicker on a double page spread is conventional because it draws the reader into the text and shows them where the article starts.

Headline:The headline for this double page spread is conventional because it is big, bold and written in sans serif so it draws in the attention of the reader. Also it is a quote from the text which means if they find it interesting they will want to read the rest of the text.

Standfirst:It is conventional to have a stand first because it gives the reader a incite to what the article is going to be about.

Box Out:A box out is conventional because if sections off important information from the rest of the text, which makes it easier for the reader to read.

Colour :The colour on this double page spread is conventional because it has feminine colours which aims at the target audience. Also they are bright and eye catching especially using colours such as different shades of pink and yellow.

Text: The text of this double page spread is conventional because it on the right hand side of the page in a serif font which is easier to read. Also it is in a small size font(9) which is conventional for a pop magazine when reading an article.

How conventional is my double page spread?

Image: My image is conventional because it is large, and on the left side of the page. Also the model is a well known singer with casual clothes and makeup which can relate to the target audience.Pull quotes:

My pull quote is conventional because it is on the main image which draws the reader in. If they like what they read from the pull quote they will want to read the rest of the text.

Text: The text on my article is conventional because it is in serif font which means it is easier to read. Also it is in the conventional size font (9) which means it doesn't take up to much space, but it is still legible to read. I have also put in questions which 12-16 year olds would want to know about their favourite celebrities so it keeps them interested.

Kicker:The kicker on my double page spread is conventional because it is at the beginning of the article in a larger font than the rest of the text. It is conventional because they know where the article starts.

Headline: My headline is conventional because it is big, bold and eye catching which is written in sans serif so it stands out from the rest of the text.

Standfirst:My standfirst is conventional because it gives the reader more information about the article. Also it is just under the headline where it is conventional to be.

Colour:My colours are conventional because they are feminine (pink and blue) which relates to the target audience. Also they are bright and eye catching so it draws the attention to the reader.
