My media product (front cover) uses, develops and challenges forms and conventions of real media products in many ways. This is because as part of my research I found many conventions from real existing products that I have developed in using for my own work. I found out that I should include: A Masthead, tagline, straplines, barcode, price, cover image, puff and a kicker. As a result, I had spotted out the essential conventions that I should use and related them to my own R&B music genre magazine.

Contents I have used bold capital letters following the typeface of the VIBE contents page which relates to the target audience as it looks fashionable. The colour is used so that it stands out from the background as the image is grey.

The heading is in yellow as it fits in with the page and also stands out from the dark colours.

The use of light bright colours, blue, yellow and white for the text stands out from the image as a whole as the image consists of dark colours.

I have placed the page number, magazine name and date at the bottom so that it can be identified.

I have aligned the text to create a strong balance.

Mise-en-scene Make-up – natural as men don’t usually wear any make-up

Lighting - bright

Setting – plain background

Costume - Both wearing a cap and a hoody

Acting –both hands on cap to show a sense of coolness in which creates a powerful atmosphere as he looks as if he is in charge

Costume – The fact it states ‘obey’ on the cap suggests that the artist wants people to look up to him

Second artist in the background looking directly at audience as well as keeping a serious face which shows that he is passionate about his music

In terms of the image itself I had used the brightness, contrast and blur tool on Photoshop to make my image look professional. I blurred the left side of the image so that when I added text it could be seen clearly. The clothes the artist is wearing is important as it represents the latest style and fashion in which the audience will look forward to. Therefore, in terms of the R&B genre the way the artists portray themselves is essential.

Double Page Spread

I have used Soulja Boy’s double page spread for ideas to create my magazine and make It look professional and seem real. This is the way it has influenced my work.

I have also used a quote on the front cover in which targets the audience as they use slang. The fact that I have included a swear in the quote but have replaced a letter which a’ *’ suggests that the audience can reflect on their own lives and the way they feel about certain things or situations.
