IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE
FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?
MAGAZINE
As you can see both
mastheads are the
biggest texts on the
page which catches the
target audiences eye.
Also they are both in a
‘san-serif font’ or ‘block
font’ again making it the
biggest font on the page.
as this is an independent film
magazine, we noticed that
they don’t have that many
sale lines, therefore we had
chosen to give our magazine
a limited amount of sale
lines. as for the typography,
they used a bright red and
black colour scheme to
make them stand out from
the background image. In
response we chose to use
white for our font as it would
stand out more.
In ‘sight and sound’ their main
story was about ‘ewan’ which
explains why it was the second
biggest text on the page which
tells the audience that he is
the main focus in that issue of
the magazine. Again, as a
response we also made our
film title and film slogan the
second biggest text on our
magazine and also decided to
make it red so that it will stand
out more from the background
image and catch our target
audiences eyes.
POSTER
As you can tell we used an most plain background but added a grudge effect to it just to anchor the horror genre within the poster. We got this idea from looking at other posters such as ‘sinister’ as we thought it was really effective.
From looking at the ‘sinister’ poster, we noticed that they used a ‘serif font’ which my group thought went really well with the whole theme of the poster, in response we used a similar ‘serif font’ but put our own twist on it making it vertical to make it our own which again also fitted in nicely with the theme of our poster.
From looking at a lot of other horror posters we noticed that they look a bit desaturated from colour, as a response to this we decided not to use any bright colours and kept the colour scheme simple using a mixture of grey white and black. We also adjusted the light and darker areas to empathies the chiaroscuro within our poster.
Lastly we added the essentials such as titles, company brand, release date, convergent links and the casting which we also saw on other existing horror posters.
TRAILERDue to research we have noticed that by using a hand held camera, we are able to put our audience an in the moment experience by giving them the point of view angle of one of the characters. We found this very effective which is why we chose to use this technique in our horror trailer.
