The .NET Framework has two main components: the common language runtime (CLR) and the .NET Framework class library.The Common Language Runtime (CLR) is a run time environment where the source code is compiled into a CIL (Common Intermediate Language) code and then into native code of the operating system. The class library, is an object-oriented collection of reusable components that is used to develop applications for both Windows and the Web.
