February 10, 2016 Colleagues: I hope the beginning of the semester is going well for you and our students. The spring semester is well underway. It was a pleasure for me to spend time on our campuses, seeing our students, faculty and staff at work. I am very proud that our former Laney football player CJ Anderson (see also below) had a great game at the Super Bowl. We congratulate all of you who had a part in helping him grow to the player he is today. We had him before Cal did. I appreciate everyone’s patience as we work hard to address the issues raised in the IT assessment. Your support and sharing of information with our Chief of Staff or VC of Finance & Administration to help move IT forward is very critical and needed. Meeting with Lisa Tomlinson of the Warriors I had a productive meeting this past week with Lisa Tomlinson of the NBA World Champion Golden State Warriors. We discussed various possibilities for cooperation with the Warriors and involvement with Peralta. We will follow-up to make things happen. She was pleased we reached out to her. I want to thank Gina Tomlinson in IT, who happens to be Lisa’s sister, for making this connection happen for us.

UtilityWorkers to become TVMs through a formal education and on the Jobtrainingprogram.AbriefdescriptionoftheEducationPartnershipwithPeraltaisasfollows:EducationPartnershipTheDistrictpartneredwiththeCollegeofAlamedatodevelopacohortprogramfortheselectedemployeestoobtainaDieselMechanicCertification.Theselectionprocessisunderwayandtheprogramisscheduledtostartinthefallof2016.Theareasoffocusfortheprograminclude:
• Diagnosing problems in mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems thatrequiretheuseofsophisticatedcomputersandotherdiagnostictestequipment.
• Troubleshooting electronic controls that govern engine performance andhorsepower.
• Troubleshootingsteering,hydraulic,andpneumaticsystemsaswellasbrakes,axles,differentials,electricmotors,andcompressors.We also discussed Peralta's interest in communicatingwith BART employeesregardingeducationalopportunitiesatPeraltacampuses.GracementionedtheBARTDiversity Fair and our Health,Wealth andWellness Fairs as a possibleemployeeeventstosetupaboothandtalktoemployees.WejusthadaHealth,WealthandWellnessFairearlier thisyear,however, thenextDiversityFair isscheduled on Wednesday, April 27.
