Congratulations to Bill on his awarding of a Double Sapphire for his outstanding services to Rotary and the Rotary Club of Bendigo South. Congratulations to Verna Ashman on her award as a Paul Harris Fellow, for her extensive community service. Both are outstanding achievements for lives full of outstanding community service. Also, thank you to the organising committee of Greg, Wendy, Gary and Matthew for the planning and preparation of the evening. Thank you to Matthew for his IT efforts in making the night work smoothly from an IT perspective. Bill as an original charter member with 54 years of service to the Rotary Club of Bendigo South, is a magnificent achievement. The program at this weeks meeting includes a visit from District Governor, Murray Verso. Board Members need to be at the Foundry at 5.30pm to have pre-meeting discussions with Murray. Also, there is the September Board Meeting after the Dinner Meeting. We will also be making presentations to the Bendigo Senior Secondary College regarding the Music Scholarship and to the Bendigo Multicultural Society for the Multicultural Dinner and to Camp Getaway for a general donation to the facility. Thank you to members for participating in the Membership / social activities survey and the group discussion with Membership Director, Bernie Young. We have received responses from about one third of the Club. Can other members forward their response to Bennie over the next week. Please contribute you ideas and views! The Theme for September is ʻNew Generationsʼ month and there is a jammed packed program for the month. On the 11th September our Guest Speaker will be Cliff Richards, President of the Bendigo and District RSL. He will be speaking on the subject “My journey to the ANZAC Centenary.” As a mark of respect and honour to those who have served this country or are serving in war and peace, members are asked to wear their medals. Medals awarded for service during wartime or peacetime service in the forces as well as those for long and meritorious service in the various service authorities i.e. Police, Fire Service, ambulance and nursing may also be worn on jacket or dress. The meeting on the 11th September is also a Partner Night. Planning for the fundraising launch for the Health Science Scholarships at La Trobe University is also well underway. The launch will take place on Tuesday 23rd September with a full inter-club gathering including the Rotary Club of Bendigo – Strathdale and the Rotary Club of Bendigo Next Generation. A wonderful night was had last week to celebrate Bill Ashmanʼs life and his membership of our Club. A night of emotion, friendship, memories, excitement and pleasant surprises. I wish to thank the members of our club in supporting this memorable evening. And to those who helped make it such a memorable night including Wendy Learmount, Ros Chenery, Matthew Scott, Laurie OʼFarrell, Gary Pinner, Rod Spitty, Ian  Ellis and Rob Layton. I believe we touched Bill and Vernaʼs hearts and effectively communicated our Clubʼs appreciation to them for all they have contributed and for the philosophy  of  ʻservice above selfʼ which they practised. - PP Greg Noonan

THE OBJECT OF ROTARYThe object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and,

in particular, to encourage and foster:FIRST.

The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

SECOND.High ethical standards in business and

professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each

Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;THIRD.

The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;

FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of

business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

THE FOUR WAY TEST

1. Is it the TRUTH? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER

FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
