Website Committee Report

I. 2014 Accomplishments

A. APTC Client List – Online We’ve gone live with the first APTC client list on-line which is sortable, searchable and printable with changes being requested directly on a form on the website. This electronic submission will allow APTC to maintain the historical data on all client additions or updates.

B. Eblast/Newsletter and Tax Update Submission Form

i. Eblasts and tax updates are now submitted directly to the APTC website which allows APTC to archive this information indefinately. The form was modified after the initial use and now contains a mandatory field for the author of the submission (which will allow recognition below the article of this individual) versus simply the member firm name.

12

ii. Participation from Member firms for the last two E-blast/newsletter submissions have remained higher than previous quarters.

The website’s “Total Opens” category has increased dramatically which increase is in line with the renaming of the tax update e-blast to ‘New Property Tax Challenges & Opportunities” from the prior generic title of “Current Property Tax Updates”. The bounce-back rate remains outstanding since the revised and updated subscriber list which became housed on the APTC website as of the 1st quarter of 2014.

Proposed Website Upgrade and Cost:

From: Hal Gray Sent: Monday, August 25, 2014 5:01 PM To: Paul, Stephen H.; [email protected]; '[email protected]'; '[email protected]' Cc: Angel, Denise L. ([email protected]); Lisa Stuckey Subject: FW: APTC Website Migration Quote Folks – At the APTC meeting in June, on behalf of the Webpage Committee I reported that we had been in contact with Tom Sparkman, an IT professional, regarding the updating of our Webpage. As you may recall, the Webpage template that we have been using is no longer supported (as of September 2012). Accordingly, the needed Webpage improvements include installing a new template, migrating our data to that template, optimizing our site for search engines, creating new online information submission forms and editing/cleaning up our content. The attached memo from Tom Sparkman sets all of this out in greater detail (albeit in Techspeak). I’ll be happy to try to answer any specific questions that you might have. Under separate cover, I’ll forward a memo from Tom that explains the results of his audit of our site and which provides specific additional recommendations/improvements. The bottom line cost of all of this would be $5,132. The Webpage Committee unanimously recommends that the Executive Committee submit this proposal to the full membership for approval at the October meeting in Chicago. Again, please feel free to call me with any questions or comments. I look forward to seeing each of you in The Windy City!

From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Thomas Sparkman Sent: Tuesday, July 08, 2014 3:12 PM To: Angel, Denise L.; Norman, Vickie L.; Hal Gray Subject: APTC Website Migration Quote Good Afternoon APTC Website Committee: Attached is a line item quote for migrating the APTC website from Joomla 1.5 to Joomla 3.3. Joomla 1.5 reached it's end of life cycle in September of 2012. Benefits of migration include: developer supported platform, access to one-click Joomla platform updates, better site security, performance increases, and a user friendly "responsive platform". This quote also includes a required template upgrade, extension upgrades along with a few recommendations.

After performing a site audit I have the following recommendations.

• Member Firms Page: http://www.aptcnet.com/local-property-tax-representative-firm-directory This page was carried over from your old site and was originally the only directory listing. The current site has a new directory listing and each member has their own page. http://www.aptcnet.com/local-property-tax-representative-directory. I'm not sure if this page has been maintained and I would recommend deactivating it.

• Tax Representative Directory: http://www.aptcnet.com/local-property-tax-representative-directory This is the main directory listing page. When the new site launched each state had one representative. At some point an additional page was created by APTC called "Other Property Tax Representatives" http://www.aptcnet.com/other-property-tax-representatives. The distinction between these two pages is not clear and it looks like there needs to be some clean up between the two pages. My recommendation is to have one main directory. When a user clicks on the state map one of two things could happen. Option 1 is to be taken to the main State Representative and have the "Other Representatives" for that state be listed on that page as links. Option 2 is when a state has more than one representative a landing page can be created for that state which lists all Representatives as links. Further discussion on this topic is needed.

• Submission Forms: All content submissions should be made by using mandatory web forms. In addition to the recently created "Property Tax Update Submission Form" and "Client List Change Request Form" I would recommend creating the following forms: "Case Studies Form", "Tax Representative Directory Change Form", "Article Submission From", and possibly a "News and Events" form.

20

• News and Events: There needs to be an internal discussion on what is displayed on the public News and Events page and what is in the Members Only section. There seems to be some unnecessary crossover.

• Images: We discussed removing one of the home page banner graphics. Having a few professional grade images on the home page is essential. Original photography is always preferred but stock photos can be used. If original photography is unavailable I can supply APTC with stock photo resources or perform a preliminary search for you. Image research and photo editing is not included in the attached quote.

• Search Engine Optimization (SEO): SEO encompasses a broad range of on and off site techniques that help with your search engine rankings. My initial recommendation is to clean up what is negatively effecting your rankings, utilize the components currently on and that will be added to your site that aid in SEO, and have APTC setup a company Facebook and Twitter page. These basic techniques will have a noticeable impact in your rankings over the course of a few months. Additional techniques can be discussed if you are trying to target specific keywords phrases or have an event or topic you would like to increase your rankings in.

Let me know if you have any questions or would like to proceed with the project. Tom Thomas Sparkman ...................................................................................... Highwire Design LLC 705 Briarcliff Drive | Minooka, IL 60447 P: 815.272.4228 | www.highwire-design.com
