On August 19 th , the Brethren Retreat successfully won an online bidding duel to acquire a bank foreclosed property. This property had been vacant for three years! We have closely monitored the status of this parcel since the last property transfer in 2003. The acquisition of this very strategic property accomplishes four significant goals; 1. Completes the re-acquisition of all the property adjoining our recreation Hill for the first time in nearly 50 years! 2. Allows for an undeveloped roadway to remain private providing increased property security for our campus activities. 3. Provides a source of water near the Hill which may allow for a new water activity in the future. ie: Water Slide! 4. Provides a three bedroom modular home to be used as a Staff House or a possible Cozy Cottage. There was a God inspired reason the Brethren Retreat at Shipshewana Lake had to wait three years for this acquisition. The online listing agent provided less than 10 days notice of the auction date. The purchase required a cash presentation to close. On June 18 th , we received our first-ever six figure gift pledged at the 2015 District Conference by the Winding Water Brethren Church. Only two months before the auction. Funds were now available to access! “A Vision to Revitialize”The concept of acquiring adjacent property to reconnect our segmented property and establish buffer zones has been TARGET #1 for more than twenty years. The persistent efforts to acquire adjacent property has always been about “Aiming For The Future”. Since 1994, we have acquired nearly $1,500,000 in land/structures and owe less than $190,000 on these acquisitions. These acquisitions allow us to; open up natural spaces around campus as we removed eleven
distressed homes/cottages add a new ministry opportunity with four Cozy Cottages increase our campus utilization and create a means to pay for the
numerous property acquisitions through a long term rental ministry. add new recreational areas and activities. improve the security for our campers and guests.
Our longstanding vision to revitalize this valuable and distinctive ministry is successfully being accomplished.
Big Changes are coming in the very near future. Our leadership is pursuing a huge recreational activity; climbing/rappelling tower and double 450’ zip line! We are in the preliminary stages of evaluating a major renovation of the Tabernacle to provide year round comfort and offer a modernized space for presentations, training, and worship. Also, significant renovations continue to the interior of the Retreat Haus so that a new exterior appeal can be pursued with vigilance.Yes . . . Cha . . . Cha . . . Changes are coming!But not without the guidance and blessings of our Father in Heaven. And . . . certainly not without your heartfelt prayers on behalf of this effective outdoor ministry. Your continued petitions in prayer are a huge reason that this outdoor ministry continues to extend the kingdom of God by utilizing the outdoor setting to provide encounters with Jesus and foster healthy relationships. Thank you for your efforts in making this outdoor ministry valuable, distinctive and effective!

The utilization of our facility has expanded the opportunity for more campers, donors, and new group ministry connections. Our guests have helped to fulfill our mission and strengthen our ministry goals.
An event conducted with the Brethren Retreat at Shipshewana Lake allows for a very affordable escape in a comfortable and safe environment with excellent food service. A typical two night retreat and five meals for 30 adult guests is only $115/person!*
*Call us for discounts involving youth and family events or larger groups or longer stays. We offer a variety of meal plans and a provide your food service option.
Currently we are striving to fill several open weekends through the next several months. Would you help us recruit a guest ministry group from your church, family, or group of friends? Word of mouth is our most effective advertising. Thanks!
