MERETRIO was brought together in São Paulo- Brazil in 2004, as an initiative of EMILIANO
Sampaio (guitar and trombone), GUSTAVO Boni(acoustic and electric bass) and LUIS ANDRÉ
(drums and percussion), with the purpose ofresearching the diversity of moderninstrumental music.
Since its inception, the group has consistentlyexplored the creativity in instrumental music,developing a work that mixes Brazilianrhythms, jazz elements and chamber musicapproach.
In 2014 the trio invited six horn players fromGraz - Austria to record the album MereneuProject, which won the “Downbeat StudentAward” for Best 2014 Jazz Group.
In 2015 Meretrio released a new ambitiousalbum called “ Tourists ” with Big Bandinstrumentation, which won prizes from the“ Downbeat ” magazine and a compositionprize at the Graz Jazz Composition Contest.
MERETRIO has already played in the mostimportant brazilian jazz festivals :
Now, 14 years after its beginning, MERETRIO
releases two new albums in 2016: “Óbvio” asa trio and “The Forbidden Dance” as a nonet.
In a dialogue between the trios of the pastand present, it is evident that MERETRIO keepsdeveloping their music, never leaving behind asense of humour, creativity and the joy ofmaking music.
