Frankl. So Man cannot live as an island
separating himself from others. To have a
deep and committed relationship with the
other person does not happen so easily but
it has to pass through many stages. In the
first stage we are able to see only what is
good in others. They may be their
appearance, their qualities, and their behavior and so on. This
stage leads us to know the other persons better. Sooner or
later the persons whom we come to know are not exactly
what we thought them to be. Hence our image about the
persons crumbles down, because we see only bad in others.
Then we have inevitable split in our relationship without
attaining any depth in our friendships.
Then we pass on to the other stage where we become
aware that the others have both good and bad and accept
them as they are. Thus we are able to arrive at a certain
maturity in our relationship because we are able to forgive
others not because they have done some good to us but
because they are different from us. This stage helps us for
truly loving other persons. The forgiving attitude towards
others can come to us only when we accept and forgive
ourselves which will enable us to relate ourselves to others.
But if we feel insecure then we fear the consequences of
trusting others to be themselves. But we must be able to
take the risk of allowing others to be others, then we will
experience true love and friendship.

in the Archbishop’s House, Madurai. There will be Chrism Mass
at St. Mary’s Cathedral, presided over by our Archbishop at 6.00
pm. The city parish priests are kindly asked to persuade the faithful
to participate in good number in this Chrism Mass Liturgy, and
they are requested to drop the evening mass in all the parishes.
2. Parish priests and the heads of the institutions are kindly requested
to take special effort to increase the customary collections of
campaign against Hunger and Disease during Lent. The faithful
should be properly motivated for a generous contribution in this
campaign which is a practical and concrete expression of practising
penance. Let us not give up the long standing custom of distributing
small earthen vessels (undials) to families to encourage this collection
with a spirit of sacrifice.
3. The collection taken on Good Friday on 14thApril, 2017, to be
sent for the maintenance of the sacred places in Holy Land. Kindly
procure a good collection. The superiors and heads of religious
communities and institutions are also requested to procure and
submit the collection to the procurator.
4. Our heartfelt condolence to Rev. Fr. Amalraj, and his relatives,
upon the demise of his mother Mrs. Leela. who expired on
9thMarch, 2017. For the Funeral Mass at Kalladipatti, our
Archbishop, number of priests, religious and people from different
parishes were present. Let us pray for the repose of her soul.

Christ. The Risen Lord who lives
among us, who lives with us is
capable of healing our heart: He
does so, if we ask it. It is He who
allows us, even in our littleness
and poverty, to experience the
Father ’s compassion and to
celebrate the wonders of his love.
And thus we understand that all
we can live and do for our
brothers and sisters is but the
response to what God has done and continues to do for us. Rather, it is
God himself who, abiding in our heart and our life, continues to be close
and to serve all those whom we encounter each day on our journey,
beginning with the least and the neediest, in whom He is first recognized.
Thus, with these words, rather than reproach us, the Apostle
Paul wants to encourage us and rekindle hope in us. Indeed, everyone
has the experience of not living the commandment of love fully or as we
should. But this too is a grace, because it makes us understand that we
are incapable of truly loving by ourselves: we need the Lord constantly
to renew this gift in our heart, through the experience of his infinite
mercy. Then, indeed, we will return to appreciate small things, simple,
ordinary things; we will once more appreciate all these little, everyday
things and we will be capable of loving others as God loves them, wanting
their good, that is, that they be holy, friends of God; and we will be glad
of the opportunity to make ourselves close to those who are poor and
humble, as Jesus does with each one of us when we are distant from
Him, to stoop to the feet of our brothers and sisters, as He, the Good
Samaritan, does with each of us, with his compassion and his
forgiveness.Dear brothers and sisters, what the Apostle Paul reminded
us of is the secret for — I shall use his words — it is the secret for
“rejoicing in hope” (cf. Rom 12:12); rejoicing in hope. The joy of
hope: because we know that in all circumstances, even the most adverse,
and also through our own failures, God’s love never fails.Therefore,
with his grace and his fidelity dwelling and abiding in our heart, let us
live in the joyful hope of reciprocating in our brothers.

happen? And how can we be certain that our love is sincere, that our
charity is authentic? That we are not pretending to do charity or that our
love is not for show: sincere, strong love....

This happens when our love is
motivated by interest, by self-
interest; and how much
interested love there is ... when
the service to charity, which we
seem to carry out generously,
is done in order to draw
attention to ourselves or to feel good: ‘Oh, how good I am!’. No, this is
hypocrisy! Or also when we aspire to things with “visibility” so as to put
our intelligence or our abilities on display. Behind all this there is a false,
misleading idea, thinking that since we love, we are good — as though
charity were a manmade creation, a product of our heart. Charity, instead,
is first and foremost a grace, a gift; being able to love is a gift of God,
and we must ask for it. He gives it freely, if we ask for it. Charity is a
grace: it does not consist in showing off, but in what the Lord gives us
and which we freely receive; and it cannot be extended to others if it is
not first generated by the encounter with the meek and merciful face of
Jesus.
Paul invites us to recognize that we are
sinners, and also that our way of loving
is marked by sin. At the same time,
however, one becomes the bearer of a
new message, a message of hope: the
Lord opens before us a new path of
freedom, a path of salvation. It is the
opportunity for us too to live the great
commandment of love, to become
instruments of God’s charity. And this
happens when we let our heart be healed and renewed by the Risen

Theni Vicariate Lenten Pilgrimage, Kanavay
The century old custom of adoring the Cross erected at Kanavay Mount
( of Usilampatti parish) has been being celebrated as Lenten Pilgrimage
of Theni Vicariate for the past forty
years. This year too it was celebrated
on 26th March 2017, Sunday. The
faithful started coming from all the 13
parishes of the Vicariate right from
10.00 a.m. As per Vicariate plan, the
local P.P. Fr. John Diraviam conducted
a Lenten Recollection the whloe
morning. Lunch was provided at noon
after which the grand Way of the Cross was conducted by the Assistant
Fathers ofnthe Vicariate. People, both men and women carried the huge
rugged cross onthe mountain path. The whole mountain path was
decorated with Word of God placards and posters depicting the passion
of Christ. Then the Vicariate Lenten Pilgromage Mass was presided by
His Grace, Most Rev. Antony Pappusamy at 5:30 p.m. with the
concelebration of 15 Vicariate priests. There were a. 2000 people praying
during the mass. Fr. John Martin, the Vicar Forane thanked His Grace,
all the 13 Parish priests and all the faithful from these parishes. All the
arrangements of the Pilgrimage was done by the local Parish Priest,
Fr. M. John Diraviam. At 7.30 the faithful dispersed carrying a lot of
blessings from the Shrine of Our Lady of Veilankanni, Kanavay.

Archbishop Antony Pappusamy presided over the mass held at
St. Mary’s on 26.03.2017. 14 Evangelisation team new members gave
the commitment and 32 volunteers renewed their commitment to visit
and stay is a village given by the commission for Evangelisation.
Archbishop preached on the read and effective way of
preaching the Good News to the simple and poor people who area in
villages. He appreciated the volunteers for helping the diocese for a

Barister George Joseph is a catholic freedom fighter. In order
get back the rights of the poor and adidravidar, he
refrained from becoming a collector and preferred
to serve the people as the lawyer. Seeing his ability
and talents Mahatma Gandhi encouraged him to
write in his journal. He was a close associate with
Jawaharlal Nehru and Periyar. He died on 5.3.1938
at the age of 50.
