The redevelopment work in Memorial Park is almost complete, making the area a social hub for outdoor activities and entertainment this summer.

Along with the innovative playground and outdoor amphitheatre, upgrades include:

• War Memorial seating, paving and walls.

• Improvements to existing pathways in conjunction with new paths, making the park accessible for wheelchairs.

• Dozens of mature trees have been planted to create future shade areas, and landscaping of the gardens is underway, bringing colourful blooms to our City.

• New CCTV systems providing extensive coverage of the park and its facilities, significantly improving security of the area.

• New bench seats, litter bins, unisex toilets, pavilion shelter and drinking fountains.

• The playground has been upgraded with new equipment and rubber soft floors.

Future plans for the park will incorporate public art that reflects the memorial aspect of the park and cultural diversity of the City.

The City of Armadale has contributed nearly $450 000 towards this major city centre project and hopes the whole community can use this peaceful public open space.

New community space on Orchard Avenue The City’s renewal of its Orchard Avenue precinct into a bold new community space with something for all, is steadily taking shape.

This state-of-the-art project worth approximately $1 million will have a range of features including viewing areas, seating and an innovative, versatile sculptural steel surface.

The project has been the work of Convic Design, a company who specialise in the design of youth parks. They have been the mastermind behind numerous public spaces across Australia and the world.

Local young people participated in the design consultation stage, ensuring the park was equipped with features that they will find interesting and attractive.

The space will act as a recreational hub for local youth and will also be of interest to park users.

Staged completion is expected by February 2012.

The current project has been funded through Outer Metropolitan Community Fund, Lotterywest, Department of Sport and Recreation and the City of Armadale.

Now is the time of year we all need to be extra vigilant about the bushfire season ahead and to make sure we are all prepared. Getting your property ready for the bushfire season takes planning and time, but it is an absolute necessity. Complacency is not an option, contact you local Bushfire Ready Group, reduce your fuel loads and prepare your property.

Our staff are working hard to reduce fuel loads on all our council properties, from reserves to verges. Please use your

greenwaste collection, tip passes and if required, private contractors, to get your property bushfire ready.

It has been a hard year for many in our community, recovering from the February bushfire,

however, we are a stronger community for it. Let us all take pride in our community while we get through another hot summer season.Armadale, a place that has a unique history and hertiage and a resilience you wont find anywhere else.

In true Christmas spirit I wish you a Merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year.

The construction was a joint project with the Department of Environment and Conservation and the City of Armadale.

The latest boardwalk overlooks the beautiful Forrestdale Lake Nature Reserve. The viewing platform allows visitors to enjoy the waterbirds that inhabit the surrounding wetlands.

History Reference Group Are you interested in local history? The City is looking for passionate members to be part of the History Reference Group.

Members will share an interest in all things historical happening in the district.

More than 80 people attended the opening as Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones officially cut the ribbon.

The event coincided with the 21st anniversary of the Friends of Forrestdale.
