November 1 Worship Bulletin All Saints Day // November 1, 2020 // Livestream at 9:30 am // Christ the King / Cristo Rey INTRODUCTION As we remember the saints of God who have gone before us, we hear about Elijah showing care for the widow of Zarephath and her son. The prophet, like many of the saints who have influenced our own faith lives, shows God's never-ending care for those on the margins.

The Holy Spirit calls us together as the people of God even when we are apart.

PRELUDE WELCOME Save a Seat GATHERING SONG Shall We Gather at the River ELW 423

THANKSGIVING AT THE FONT

L Blessed are you, holy God.

You are the creator of the waters of the earth. You are the fire of rebirth. You poured out your Spirit on your people Israel. You breathe life into our dry bones. Your Son Jesus promised to send the Spirit to us that the world may know your peace and truth.

L Pour out your Holy Spirit, and breathe new life into those who are baptized. Especially, today, we give thanks for the children you’ve claimed as your own in this faith community over the past year: For Cecilia Mae, Noah Alexander, Evelyn Hennessy, Paige Annabell, Linus Carl, and Mira Martha. By your Spirit adopt us all as your beloved children, through our Savior Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

CHILDREN’S MESSAGE Pastor Peter Hanson GREETING

L The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

C And also with you.

SUNG RESPONSE Jesus, Remember Me ELW 616

READING 1 Kings 17:1-16 1Now Elijah the Tishbite, of Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, "As the LORD the God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall be neither dew nor rain these years, except by my word." 2The word of the LORD came to him, saying, 3Go from here and turn eastward, and hide yourself by the Wadi Cherith, which is east of the Jordan. 4You shall drink from the wadi, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there." 5So he went and did according to the word of the LORD; he went and lived by the Wadi Cherith, which is east of the Jordan. 6The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the wadi. 7But after a while the wadi dried up, because there was no rain in the land. 8Then the word of the LORD came to him, saying, 9Go now to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and live there; for I have commanded a widow there to feed you. 10So he set out and went to Zarephath. When he came to the gate of the town, a widow was there gathering sticks; he called to her and said, "Bring me a little water in a vessel, so that I may drink." 11As she was going to bring it, he called to her and said, "Bring me a morsel of bread in your hand." 12But she said, "As the LORD your God lives, I have nothing baked, only a handful of meal in a jar, and a little oil in a jug; I am now gathering a couple of sticks, so that I may go home and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die." 13Elijah said to her, "Do not be afraid; go and do as you have said; but first make me a little cake of it and bring it to me, and afterwards make something for yourself and your son. 14For thus says the LORD the God of Israel: The jar of meal will not be emptied and the jug of oil will not fail until the day that the LORD sends rain on the earth." 15She went and did as Elijah said, so that she as well as he and her household ate for many days. 16The jar of meal was not emptied, neither did the jug of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD that he spoke by Elijah.

The reading may be concluded:

L Word of God, word of life. C Thanks be to God.

SPOKEN RESPONSE Remember Rossetti Remember me when I am gone away, Gone far away into the silent land; When you can no more hold me by the hand, Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay. Remember me when no more day by day You tell me of our future that you plann'd: Only remember me; you understand It will be late to counsel then or pray. Yet if you should forget me for a while And afterwards remember, do not grieve: For if the darkness and corruption leave A vestige of the thoughts that once I had, Better by far you should forget and smile Than that you should remember and be sad. REMEMBERING THE SAINTS We name aloud and light a candle for those in our faith community who have passed away since last All Saints.

L Lord, in your mercy, C hear our prayer.

LORD’S PRAYER C Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us;

and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen
