High Holy Day Seat Reservation forms will be mailed out later this summer. Primarily because of security concerns, the AJ Religious Committee voted to require tickets be presented by members and guests purchasing or

receiving reserved seats for the High Holy Days. Each person who purchases a seat reservation will be mailed a ticket. Attendees will be asked to show their tickets to the ushers as they enter. Ushers will be directed not to let anyone inside the worship areas unless they have a ticket. Anyone who cannot afford to purchase seat reservations is asked to contact Rabbi Slosberg well in advance of the High Holy Days in order to receive a ticket. No one will be turned away from worship services due to their inability to pay for a seat reservation.

JOY!RIDE is a ride service coordinated through the JFCS. Rides can be arranged by calling the

phone number above. Round-trip rides cost between $5 - $15 per trip.

At the time of this writing, the date of the Annual Board of Trustees meeting is approaching. I can’t believe that a year has already passed since I became president. I want to thank all those who served on the board

for their service, and welcome all the new fresh faces who have generously volunteered their time and effort to help guide our synagogue for the next several years. The board has many younger and newer members since these are the people who will be affected in future years by decisions made now.

Our synagogue remains a vibrant center of activity. The AJ Passover Seder was filled to capacity and was a great success. Melton continues to set attendance records. The AJ Preschool and summer daycare is as popular as ever. We continue to have our daily minyan. Our new Sabbath and Festival prayer books are wonderful. It allows one to pray, and at the same time educates about the prayers and holidays. We are fortunate to be one of the first synagogues in the country to use this siddur. As I have mentioned previously, on June 7th, Cantor Lipp will be leaving on a 3-month sabbatical. Many congregants, along with Rabbi and Deborah Slosberg, will be taking on extra duties to help fulfill the religious and teaching duties of the cantor. Many volunteers will be reading torah and leading services. Deborah will be helping the bar and bat mitzvah students, and Rabbi Slosberg will be filling in all the blanks. What we will need are people in the seats so that we can have minyan. As summer minyan services sometimes become challenging as people are away on vacation, please consider helping support an extra minyan service this summer.

Messenger June 2016 Issue No. 243Published Monthly

CongregationAdath Jeshurun

with Adath Jeshurun Keneseth Israel Temple Shalom

at a shared-synagogue observance held at KI Tikkun Ley’l Shavuot Saturday night, June 11, 2016 8:00 p.m. Keneseth Israel 2531 Taylorsville Road

Shavuot commemorates the anniversary of the giving of the Ten Commandments to Moses and the Israelites at Mt. Sinai. Customs include eating dairy foods and reading the Book of Ruth. Just as the Israelites stayed up late the night before receiving the Ten Commandments, we do too, but we do it with refreshments, learning and songs.

Celebrate Shavuot with your friends from Adath Jeshurun, Keneseth Israel and Temple Shalom at a shared program sponsored by all three synagogues. Come and enjoy a creative service and a wonderful evening of dairy treats and great discussions! For more information, please contact Yonatan Yussman at [email protected] or 459-2780.

The June 2016 Messenger is generously sponsored by Bruce Blue

in memory of Phyllis Adams and Miriam & George Blue.
