design, manufacturing, service, packaging and
distribution means we can be more competitive
with our prices.
That’s because we pass on the benefits that
come from economies of scale and more efficient
operations in every area of our business.
All with the aim of giving our merchant

SJH Standard Joist Hangers BS6178:Part 1:1990(Min 2.8N/mm²)
For supporting timber joists and structural composite
timber from masonry walls. A non-welded construction
to BS6178. Increased safe working loads, higher side
flange and resists rotation.
Widths Depths38mm 75mm 100mm 225mm

47mm 100mm 150mm
50mm 125mm 175mm
63mm 150mm 200mm
All hangers 150mm deep and above are undersized by
10mm to allow for notching of ceiling joists for flush
finishing of the plasterboard.
Fixing
The back plate of the hanger should be flat against the
supporting masonry. Before any loads are applied there
should be at least 600mm of cured brick/block work
above the hanger. The end of the joist should then be
flush against the back of the hanger and side web holes
filled with 30mm x 3.75mm square twist nails.
The above hangers are also available with a return flange
(RJH) and as a straddle or double hanger (STJH) which
allows for positive location of the hangers in-situ and a
straight joist line where required. When ordering these
styles of built in joist hangers please clearly state the
masonry or steel work size they are fitting over as they
are generally made to order.

joist the sum = 450MM so that an MH380/50 will be the correct size to use (MH500/50 would leave
the hanger above the joist top 25mm each leg).
