MGA QUARTERLYU P DAT E
“Attracting women to the industry has been both a challenge and a priority for industry players. A surveyconducted in 2015 by the International Gas Union (IGU), whereby MGA is a charter member of IGU, showed that55% of gas companies admitted that they have no target set in terms of gender equality.
The IGU research foresee that under business as usual scenario, the gas industry will remain a male-dominatedindustry where 3 out of 4 employees are men and where more than half of the companies globally employ over95% male managers. Not only do women account for a reduced percentage of the gas industry’s workforce, butthey also tend to work mostly in support or non-technical functions. Women are also largely underrepresented inexecutive positions and account for only 11% in the oil and gas industry.
At the same time, the IGU research shows that the vast majority of female professionals feel that they can fulfilltheir career expectations within the gas industry. The research also found the attrition rate for female employeesto be significantly lower as compared to their male colleagues, in all regions of the world. Even though theindustry hires fewer women than men, female employees tend to outstay their male peers.
Gender diversity is very important for our industry. The global focus on attracting more women into the oil andgas industry is not just about creating a more diverse workforce, it is of vital importance if we are to continue toserve the world’s growing energy needs and to support the national transformation for energy liberalisation.
The industry needs innovative people thinking about new technologies and who are also flexible and capable toadapt to the new environment. We will never have the best industry if we are unable to attract the best talentregardless of gender.”
As we enter the final quarter of 2017, we look forward to several major events planned for Q4 2017;• MGA-MOGSC Industry Gala Dinner to be held on 3 November 2017, an event where key players in our
industry congregate to enjoy good food, good entertainment and good company.• PRESTIGE program for universities in the southern region• Elections for the IGU President for triennium 2021-2024 and host of World Gas Conference 2014
See you all at the Industry Gala Dinner. Come in your favourite P. Ramlee or Saloma costume.

"As a Gen Y working for the MGA secretariat, this movie hasopened my eyes to climate change and the role the youth canplay in securing our future. The movie empowers youth, throughuplifting and inspiring success stories, to play an essential role ininforming the community.
I think Al Gore is a man full of adrenaline with a great purpose inlife. He has succeeded in capturing the attention of youth likeme to work together in saving the world for the future. I believe, some in my generation are still not aware of the seriousness ofclimate change that we have endured for the past many yearsthat not only happened in Malaysia but all over the world.
I was intrigued in the process on how AL Gore manages to tackleall the problems that come his way. For example in this movie,he managed to come with solutions to tackle the climate changeobstacles. The efforts that he genuinely went to meet all ranksof people, asking and approaching them just to identify theirproblems, effects and causes to what they are having now. Thisprocess, this little process looks normal to people but somehowit stayed with me and I believe that everybody can do this. It’sthe climate change that we must be talking about.
Motivated is the key word for a “Gen Y” like me. That is how Ifelt after watching this movie. To whatever misfortunes andbumps he has faced, perseverance, passion and belief alwaysgot him through accomplishing his missions. In my opinion, these are the values that we should inculcate in everyone, especially the future generation.“
