ELIMINATED PRODUCTS - UA Remember, as of Sept. 1, 2010, the following products are eliminated from the United American portfolio and no longer available for sale: Common Sense Plan (CS1), Good Sense Plan (GSP1), FLEXguard Plus (GSP2), Freedom Signature Series (GSP3), Independence Signature Series (GSP3A), HSXC, MMXC, MSXC, SHXC, SMXC, and SSXC.

HIGH DEDUCTIBLE PLAN F To help you write new business and maintain high persistency, new Platinum PLUS Medicare Supplement policyholders with a policy effective date Oct. 1 and after, are required to pay only $1,000 in out-of-pocket expenses of the $2,000 annual deductible amount during the remainder of 2010 before policy benefits are payable by Liberty National.

The calendar-year deductible is set by the federal government and generally increases annually. The full amount of the 2011 deductible will be required beginning Jan. 1, 2011, before policy benefits are payable.

VERIFICATIONS OF EMPLOYMENT All inquiries received on employees or former employees of Liberty National must be forwarded to the Human Resources Department (205-325-2907) for a reply. This includes inquiries from credit bureaus, prospective employers, unemployment compensation agencies, mortgage companies, and all other sources. Inquiries must not be answered on a personal basis or on behalf of the Company, since this is a legally sensitive area, and your answers could get both you and the Company into serious trouble.

REMINDER: CONFIDENTIALITY OF RECORDS POLICY It is mandatory that the Company’s Confidentiality of Records Policy be posted in a conspicuous place in the Branch office. All personnel must be informed that any confirmed violations of the policy will result in disciplinary action against the offender, up to and including discharge.

VOICE MAIL GREETING Presenting a consistent, uniform message to customers and potential Agents who call is important. If someone in the Branch is unable to answer the call personally, the voice mail message should be consistent in all Branches.

Effective immediately, all Branch Managers should update the Branch office voice mail to reflect the following script:

“Thank you for calling Liberty National. If you are returning a call or calling in response to an e-mail or phone call regarding possible employment, please leave your name, phone number, and the reason for your call. We will return your call as soon as possible. If you need information regarding your policy or any other customer service matter, please contact a customer service representative at 1-800-666-2144 for assistance.”

With our outbound calling program, it is vitally important that callers know they have reached their intended target and do not receive a generic voice mail greeting. Below you will find a recommended voice mail message for your cell phone.

“Hello, you have reached the voice mail for (First name, Last name), Branch Manager with Liberty National Life Insurance Company. Your call is important to me. Please leave a message with your name and phone number and I will return your call as soon as possible.”

SUBMIT ADVANCE CHANGE AND COMMISSION ADJUSTMENTS As of Sept. 3, 2010, we no longer pay submit advance commissions for business written on semiannual or quarterly payment modes.

In addition, if a policy changes pay modes during the first year, there will be a charge back of the difference in commissions for the remaining months of the policy’s first year. For example, if you write new business on payroll deduction and four months later it changes to monthly premium notice, your commissions will be recalculated on the new mode for the remaining months left in the policy year.

INTEREST RATES SET The UA Lifestyle Annuity rate for September is 3.00 percent. Rates are reviewed and adjusted accordingly.

The Deposit Fund Rider new business interest rate for 2010 is 3.00 percent.

UA and LNL regular annuities are limited to 3.00 percent.

Where do i Begin? What a year! Convention was amazing! Miami’s Fontainebleau was the perfect place to celebrate. Seeing many familiar faces and several new ones is always both exciting and gratifying. Every year Torch Club reminds me of how proud I am to be working with each of you and how rewarding it is to be part of this wonderful, supportive Company. But Miami is past now, and Vegas is in our future … and there is no doubt in my mind that it will be spectacular! However, we have a lot to accomplish before we hit the Vegas Strip in 2011 and are implementing several changes to aid in the process.

At the recent Branch Manager’s meeting in Dallas, many of you learned about changes taking place at Liberty National and United American and how those changes will benefit all of us.

Three Objectives: The changes we implement will help us to achieve three main objectives that will increase profits for the Company, shareholders, and Agents.

• Simplify portfolio for needs-based sales

• Create appropriate rates for different classes (implementing male/female and standard/ nontobacco rates)

• Simplify commissions for greater Agent retention

Marketplace/Portfolio Changes: Two years ago we realized the need to transition away from primary under age 65 product offerings at UA. As a result, we introduced Liberty’s individual and worksite products to UA. In addition, because of the 80-85% medical loss ratio (MLR) requirement with healthcare reform, we phased out select UA products. As previously communicated, as of Sept. 1, 2010, United American no longer offers the following plans: Common Sense Plan (CS1), Good Sense Plan (GSP1), FLEXguard Plus (GSP2), Freedom Signature Series (GSP3), Independence Signature Series (GSP3A), HSXC, MMXC, MSXC, SHXC, SMXC, SSXC.

UA will continue to offer the following plans, along with LNL’s entire supplemental portfolio for individual and worksite sales: First Cash Cancer (CANLS), HealthGuard Critical Illness (CILS), Accident (UA-250), Hospital Indemnity (HIXC, HMXC), Foundation Signature Series (MMGAP), Tradition Signature Series (INDEM1) – in CA only, in addition to the entire Platinum PLUS Medicare Supplement series of products.

Remember, healthcare reform focuses on major medical health insurance and the Medicare Advantage (MA) marketplace, not on life insurance, supplemental health, voluntary benefits, or Medicare Supplements. These are the markets on which we will focus, and these markets will continue to grow and prosper! Don’t forget! Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment runs from Nov. 15 – Dec. 31, so get ready to help redirect those MA members and disenrollees to Liberty’s Platinum PLUS Medicare Supplements!

New Products: Liberty National is making changes to its individual life product portfolio as well. Over the next few months as our new individual life products are state-approved, we will also eliminate certain life products. Check the website to see which products are approved and/or have been eliminated in your state. New or revised individual products are being added: 15MDT, 30MDT, 10-Year R&C, 20-Year R&C to Age 65, Whole Life (WL), Accidental Death Benefit Rider, and Terminal Illness Accelerated Death Benefit Rider (where state-approved). Note that our three Whole Life Products (WL, WLB, WLN) are being combined into one product (WL). If the 2010 Term Life products are not approved in your state, Agents may continue to sell Original MDT and current 10/20 RC until further notice. Along with the products changes, we are implementing underwriting changes. Agents will now be required to obtain oral swabs from applicants ages 18-69 who apply for life policy face amounts from $2,500 to $24,999. 2010 Worksite products, Group Term, Modified Life (ALX), and CareerLife Plus, will be released at a future date. Continue to sell current Worksite products until further notification.

Recruiting and Training: Our initiatives in these areas will continue in 2010 and beyond. New bonus incentives will make it easier for Branch Managers to get new permanently licensed Agents on the road to success more quickly. After all, converting recruits to producers is the ‘name of the game’. Seeing fast, positive financial results makes all the difference to a new Agent and his or her management team.

Change Creates opportunity!Equalizing Commissions: We have equalized First Year Agent Term and Whole Life Commissions to 60 percent to allow Agents to focus their attention and presentations completely on the needs and budget of the customer. As you know, life insurance needs change as people age, take on more responsibility at home/work, start a family, retire, etc. Sales presentations should always reflect these milestones and offer appropriate products.

Level Commissions for Management: Because we want Unit Managers to have a stronger vested interest in long-term Agent success, the entire Management team will receive a level commission for the entire first year of an Agent’s service. When Agents stay - everybody wins!

2010 Laptop Sales Presentation/eApp: The Laptop Sales Presentation has been updated to make the presentation and sales process easier and more effective for you and will be released shortly.

• Laptop Sales Presentation and eApp combined to download only one program.

• Shorter presentations.

• After introduction, presentation automatically transitions to Introductory Offers and then to Sponsorships. Once you record sponsorships, they are stored in the Laptop Sales Presentation, never deleted, and automatically loaded into the Lead Management System (LMS) when connected to the Internet.

• Presentation follows needs-based analysis using Intelligence software, which bases product presentations on both needs and finances.

• Enhancements to help avoid eApp errors.

• Automatic updater added, so you no longer need to uninstall and reinstall the eApp — just click a ‘Synchronize and Update’ button.

• Monthly income application added to eApp.

• Proposals no longer required, but separate program allows you to provide proposal upon request.

Worksite Billing System: Considering our strong emphasis on worksite, one of the most exciting changes is the implementation of the Worksite Billing System. Our customers’ bookkeepers can access, reconcile, and pay their bill online. They can see online payments processed the same day they are received, see next month’s bill - online on the 20th or 21st of the month (10 days before the due date), and eliminate problems with bills being delayed or lost in the mail. We begin testing the system this month and will eventually roll it out to all Branches. It’s a tremendous added benefit for our worksite customers.

As we implement these changes during the next few months, we anticipate an exciting new era for our Companies. There’s no better time to be associated with Liberty National and United American than NOW, and it’s only going to get better!

WE ARE NUMBER 1!!

Congratulations to Jason Everett and Branch 170!! Jason is the 2009 Torch Club Chairman and Branch 170 is Number One!!

Jason started in June 2003 with United American and became a Unit Manager the following December. His talent was evident from the beginning because the next month he was promoted to Branch Manager. His Branch converted to Liberty National in November of 2008, and he and his talented team have charged full speed ahead in the LNL Section 125 Worksite Market ever since.

Jason was the Rookie Branch Manager in 2007, has been a member of the President’s Club four times and became a first-time member of the President’s Council this year. He finished 2009 as the leader in premium growth with more than $1.1 million and $1.3 million in First Year Agent issue and 1.5 Torch Clubs with Liberty.

Jason and his team are consistent leaders in the worksite arena and have become a leading worksite Branch by consistently applying knowledge and training gained from other successful Worksite Branches. Jason has unselfishly given his time and talent to help train other Managers and Agents in worksite and is the charter member of the Fortune 40 Club.

When asked how he feels about being Number One, Jason said, “This award is a team award, not a Manager award. I want to make sure that each and every mile driven and the nights away from families do not go by unappreciated, because support from spouses and families are so important. My wife, Sarah, has been a huge part of making sure that Branch 170 has been successful.”

Jason and his team have accomplished great things in a relatively short period of time … and it’s only the beginning …

You’ve heard the old saying, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.” The talented individuals pictured on these pages are proof that Liberty National Branch Managers, Unit Managers, and Agents take that saying to heart. Through difficult economic circumstances, their hard work and dedication to excellence paid off. Congratulations to all of you!!

Special Recognition

toRCH edITIoN IV - 2010 11

recogNITIoN

There are few occasions when we can recognize an individual who has literally given us a lifetime of loyalty. Howard Ralston, Manager of Branch #86, provides us that opportunity. Howard reached an incredible milestone this year – one to which most of us only aspire. He celebrates 50 years of dedicated service to Liberty National. What is so amazing is that he is just as enthusiastic about Liberty National today as he was 50 years ago!

According to Liberty National President, Andy King “Howard Ralston’s 50-year career with Liberty National is a true testament to his individual strength as a leader in all ways. Howard serves as a fine example to everyone, in any position, of how the power of a positive attitude, combined with hard work and a caring attitude, can repeatedly propel any person to top performance. Howard serves as an inspiration to all of us, including me, in all ways: personally, professionally, and spiritually. We all look forward to many additional years of Howard’s winning attitude.”

Thank you, Howard, for showing us what true excellence is and for setting an example of integrity, honesty, and hard work. We salute you!

50 Years and Going Strong

Just as the nation’s Executive Branch has a team of advisors, so too does Liberty National in the form of the Council of Champions. Each year our management team calls on the experience and talent of these Branch Managers to help make decisions that benefit our policyholders, our Agents, our stockholders, and our Company. Congratulations to this year’s appointees.

From neon signs that dull the sun, to an elaborate choreographed water spectacle, to nightly performances featuring everything from drag queens to Bette Midler, Las Vegas will leave you mesmerized. Liberty National Agents will have the chance to experience all this glitz and glamour at the 2011 Convention.

Accommodations will be at the luxurious Caesars Palace, located in the heart of the world-famous Las Vegas Strip. Nineteen of the world’s 25 largest hotels by room count are on the Strip, offering a total of more than 67,000 rooms. Surrounded by dramatic architecture and modern hotels, casinos, and restaurants, you might have to break the city’s cardinal rule and tell your friends and family about your electrifying trip. You won’t want to apply the old slogan ‘What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas’ to this excursion!

Whether you want to take in a romantic water show at the Bellagio or catch the heat at the volcano eruption at the Mirage, you are in luck. Both hotels are next door to Caesars Palace, supplying free entertainment from your hotel room. At the Bellagio, a fanfare of lights in rhythm with powerful sound, and gushing jets of water flying high into the sky cast a spell of excitement into the air, making you think you’re in the heart of Lake Como in Italy. This landmark is also known to be a hot spot for proposals and marriages, so be on the lookout for wandering lovebirds!

If playing with fire is more your style, check out the erupting volcano at the Mirage igniting Vegas once again. After a $25 million redesign, the attraction reopened in December 2008. If you want to be in the heat of the action, stake your spot early – the front row seats go quickly! And don’t miss the Sirens of Treasure Island. The show, described as a modern musical-meets-action-movie spectacular, is complete with music, dancing, swordplay, acrobatics, pyrotechnics, and a full-size sinking ship!

To explore Vegas beyond the Strip, take a short cab ride to Fremont Street, located in downtown Las Vegas. The area has been revitalized into a five-block, open-air walking mall with more than two million lights and a state-of-the-art sound system. The Fremont Street Experience projects amazing sight and sound shows onto an overhead 1,500-foot canopy screen. Shows run every hour from 8:30 to midnight through the world’s largest audio-video system, a $70 million attraction that features the ultimate in multi-sensory entertainment. While Downtown, be sure to get a glimpse of the world’s largest golden nugget, weighing in at almost 62 pounds. On display at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino, the Hand of Faith gold nugget is one treasure you don’t want to miss.

There are virtually hundreds of show-stopping attractions to see in Sin City, so be sure to visit as many as possible. However, try to steer clear of that famous Little White Chapel, don’t lose too much money in the slot machines, and try not to reenact any of the scenes from The Hangover. As Katy Perry’s smash hit says, “That’s what you get for waking up in Vegas.”

Liberty National has reason to cheer once again. Liberty National has been named to the Ward’s 50 list of top performing life and health insurance companies, a distinguished honor we have held every year since 1995. Liberty National was recognized for achieving outstanding financial results in the areas of safety, consistency, and performance over a five-year period (2005-2009).

Ward Group annually consults and analyzes more than 800 life-health insurance companies established in the United States, looking for companies that outperform the industry in key factors including:

• Financial Stability

• Revenue Growth

• Capital/Surplus Position

• Underwriting Results

• Financial Returns

The Ward’s 50 companies are able to grow business profitably in difficult market conditions. This is a practice Liberty National continues every day despite a tough economic climate.
