Sharing the Magic of Live TheatreWelcome to The Acting Company! We are your non-profit community theatre in Yuba City, California. About 25 years ago a group of local artists joined to form “Theatre ‘86” with the goal of finding a theater building by 1986. It took them a little longer, they founded The Acting Company building in 1992 and for the past 14 years we have been sharing the magic of live theater with the Yuba-Sutter community.

In the past decade we have been nominated for dozens of Elly awards by the Sacramento Area Regional Theater Alliance and we have won 8 of the prestigious theatre awards!

The Acting Company shares the magic of live theatre by supporting its community with entertainment at local events, donating performances to local non-profits, children’s theater, acting workshops, the rental of period costumes and set pieces, and offering 6 full scale productions each season.

In 2004 we completed a $250,000 renovation and turned our building into a beautiful new theater facility.

In 2006 we hired a Theater Manager! The Acting Company has operated on 100% volunteer work since its inception and finally, this year, we have taken a huge leap forward by bringing on someone to manage our home away from home. We are thrilled to welcome John Elliott who will offer Box Office Hours on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 12 – 2 p.m.

The magic of theatre doesn’t happen without the support of our patrons and local businesses. Thanks to you we can continue to produce quality performing arts and offer opportunities that bolster teamwork, imagination, confidence, and artistic talent. You will find several ways to get more involved in our little theatre by reading this brochure. Feel free to contact us at anytime! Sincerely,

Staci Johnson, PresidentThe Acting Company

Young love, old love, boring love, bold love… Everything that you have ever thought or experienced with the opposite sex is brought to the stage by 4

actors as they play over 60 characters just trying to get together! This hilarious musical has been described as Seinfeld set to music!

It is perfect for date night and we have two special Valentine’s Day performances. Attention

parents, PG-13 rating!

The loons are back again on Golden Pond, and luckily for

The Acting Company, so is Pat Hill to reprise her role as Ethel Thayer.

Ethel, and her husband Norman, return to their summer cottage for one more summer. This particular summer their daughter Chelsea feels compelled to visit for Norman’s birthday and try to bridge the gap with her father, while

there is still time. Chelsea’s young stepson-to-be stirs things up and

provides that bridge needed to heal old hurts and mend this

wounded family.

Considered Shakespeare’s finest work, The Acting Company will bring a 2 hour version of Hamlet to the stage under the direction of the most devoted fan of the story. There is probably no other person who knows the dramatic story as well as Jamie Ferreira, an English teacher at Yuba City High School and a founding member of The Acting Company theatre. Hamlet, the prince of Denmark, returns home after receiving news that his father has died. He is devastated to learn that his mother has quickly remarried his father’s brother. A ghost of his father reveals to Hamlet that his death was not accidental, but murder. Hamlet feigns mental illness in order to get to the truth of the matter and the rest is one of the most woeful tragedies ever told.

For the first time ever, The Acting Company features the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber on its stage in this classic retelling of one of the Bible’s most

compelling stories. Joseph is the favorite son of 13 boys. His father gives him a beautiful coat of many colors, but his jealous brothers sell him into

Egyptian slavery. But it’s all part of God’s plan as Joseph goes on to interpret the Pharaoh’s dreams and eventually leads Egypt through the most difficult famine

ever to hit the land. And Joseph is reunited with his family and his father.

The recipient of numerous Elly nominations, winner of two of the theater awards, and founding father of The Acting Company, Curt Schroeder returns with his 5th original work. Lauded for his ability to write witty dialogue and create both ridiculous and realistic characters, Schroeder is sure to captivate audiences with this story about the meaning of life. Yes, it sounds pretty profound, but if you’ve seen a Curt Schroeder original you know he tends to weave a common thread through all his stories. In fact, this new play is almost a conclusion to his first play “cleave.” Melons will answer some of the questions left unanswered in his previous works and is sure to make you laugh one minute and cry the next.

In the 16th Century, Miguel de Cevantes, poet, playright and part-time actor was imprisoned for presenting entertainment offensive to the Spanish Inquisition. His unusual defense while inside the dungeon is the story of Don Quixote, the mad, aging nobleman who, with his trusted manservant, Sancho Panza, defends his perfect lady, Dulcinea, tilts at windmills and sings some of the most beautiful and beloved songs!

Sponsorships & Advertising

SponsorshipsOur ticket sales only cover the cost of royalties – that’s the price we pay just to have the rights to produce a particular show. We hope that your business will want to benefit from the opportunities offered to production sponsors. Our sponsors are given a free, private performance to invite employees, clients, friends and family. Or—as many sponsors have done—donate the performance to a local school so that students can enjoy a live theater experience.Sponsors also receive much recognition by inclusion on all posters, programs, newsletters and on our website. Many businesses also partner with other local businesses to help us pay for the cost of a show.To sponsor a play the cost is $3,000To sponsor a musical the cost is $5,000Contact John Elliott at The Acting Company to become a sponsor of one of our upcoming shows.

AdvertisingBy advertising in our theater programs you help us pay for the cost of printing and you reach more than 1,000 patrons per show—that’s 6,000 for the year. The cost for advertising is very reasonable!

• Full Page ad - $100• Half Page ad - $50• Quarter Page ad - $25

If you purchase an ad for the entire season, you get one show free:• Full page for the season - $500• Half Page for the season - $250• Quarter Page for the season - $125
