You will make two baskets. One basket will be pre-started for you
to finish weaving. The second basket you will learn the basics of
starting. Baskets will be woven over a ceramic mold which will
remain as part of the basket. Stakes and weavers will be cane.
Base and cheater rim will be cherry. One basket will be pre-
started. (Please let me know if you weave Left handed.) Great tea
light baskets or to put your rings in. Make one for yourself and give
one to a friend.

The basket begins by inserting all natural spokes into a wood base.
Techniques, include 4-rod twining, 3 rod twining, twill
weave, start/stop, continuous weaving and placement of
overlays. Shaping is a challenge, keeping the basket squared up as
you weave the sides. Wrought iron handles are added at the rim row and lashing. Color choices are
red or black. Flowers may very due to availability.

Students will weave on a hardwood base while triple twining and twill weaving with reverse to created an arrow effect. A crown of

This is the purse everyone
has been talking about! And the best thing is most
of the hard work is already done for you.
Students will start with an extra thick gourd,
clean, sanded, reinforced on the inside and then
dyed and sealed. Students will learn how to drill
holes to coil weave cording wrapped in
lucious fibers to cover the purse top. Various
embellishments will be available to accent.
Originally taught by Marla Helton and
permission granted by Marla Helton.

The central design in Kaleidoscope is an
embellished section of ridge weave. The rows of
ridge weave alternate between 1/4" flat oval reed and cane. Double rows of figure-8 weave make up the kaleidoscope pattern.

The New 7" Flare Thee Well has never been taught
at a convention. It is the second in the series. The Flared rim and base are unique and you will need
to make your choice of woods; either cherry or walnut. The staves are
hardwood and will be bent before class. A
demonstration of bending hardwood staves will be
done during class. Students nay weave the basket with
or without the pattern. Lots of tips will be given
and demonstrated in class to make Nantucket
weaving less frustrating.
If you want exotic wood...you will need to contact the teacher for
availability and pricing. Otherwise choose from cherry or walnut when
registering.

The Large Laundry is the Largest and MOST
POPULAR basket I make. It is 18" tall excluding the 2 Oak Loop/Bushel handles
by 18" in diameter. It has a woven Oak 'working' bottom.

Appalachian Egg Basket Anne Bowers

The essence of Appalachian ribbed basketry is the Egg
Basket. In this class students will learn how to weave an 'ear';
sight, whittle and insert primary and secondary ribs; weave so that the basket sets will and
decrease the weaving neatly. A lot of emphasis on basic rib
techniques. Students may choose natural or dyed ribs - all weavers will be natural.

Start with a LARGE beautifully prepared,
footed hardwood base. Experience the joy and art
of coiling with specially prepared glycerin pine
needles and artificial sinew and create a lovely dish.
Learn to create a beautiful handle that is woven in. Basic pine needle coiling skills are a prerequisite. Keeping a coil filled with stitch tension control are
needed! Just a few rows of coiling before creating the handle, allows this to be
done in the allotted time. Please bring sewing
scissors. An Ott light may be helpful, the rest will be provided by the teacher.

This colorful basket starts
with a wooden bottom. Learn a German braid, three rod-wale with a step-up, and a keeper.
Wheels are placed up and down all around the
basket to give it a unique look. Finish with a waxed
linen lashed rim and keeper.
Colors are pumpkin,
evening blue and green. Also space dyed reed in
those colors too. Cable ties will be helpful,please bring some to class.

Vanilla Bourbon is a luscious looking basket. The colors used give the basket an elegant look. It starts with a wooden base and traditional weaving
methods are used to create the basket. The slanted
weaving is highlighted by using a contrasting color.
The only colors available are the cocoa and tan. The slant weaving ends are not seen on the inside of the basket.

Kitchen Broom: Learn to tie a wonderful and very useful kitchen broom onto a pine or sassafras handle. The broom will be stitched flat with 2 rows of stitching. Students will also learn to weave leather strips for the handle grip and to cover the top of the wire of the broom straw. Dust Pan: Learn to weave leather strip around the wooden handle of a very useful dustpan. It will stand alone as you sweep. Leather may be chosen to match any of the brooms you will make at this workshop.
You will make the broom

This large, versatile basket starts with a filled woven
base and features start/stop rows and
twining up the sides. Twining with 2 different
weavers creates the simple yet interesting design.
Wood bushel handles are attached to the ends while

This is a large basket that starts square and ends up round. You will work on a
variety of skills - twine, triple twine, inserting
overlays, stack-weave, and shaping. The best part of this basket are the unique 'cuff' leather handles that are inserted on the spokes.
The 'cuffs' will be available in several
different colors that will match or compliment the
dyed reed.

T813 The Cherokee Sampler

This large square basket is made using the Cherokee 1-
3-5 twill technique. The main design element is called Four Principle
Directions. Other elements are crosses, mountains and
valleys, and rivers and streams. There are two graphs from which to
choose that offer the positive and negative of the design.
Students will learn the rhythm of the numbers using the graph of their choice. The pattern also included directions for a market basket and a tote.

This is a 2 day class which begins on Thursday afternoon and all day on Friday.
Woven on a rectangular wooden base, this basket features varying shades of reed to depict flowing sea water. The basket utilizes the techniques of twining, both round and flat reed; 3-rod and 4-rod wale; and a Japanese twill technique. After the student makes the braided sea grass
handles, a braided sea grass rim with sea grass lasher completes this starfish adorned basket making adventure.
Please bring a tapestry needle, small crochet hook or lashing tool to class.

This snowball shaped basket with wooden base has a snowman stuffed head for it's lid.
Careful attention to shaping with many helpful tips will be shared while weaving the start/stop

Head and hat are both hand-made and all matching embellishments are included.

a 2/2 twill pattern. Colorful beads make up

Mimi's Ring Basket is an elegant and useful basket that stores and keeps your ring(s) safe and out of the way in a moment. I have one in the
kitchen and bathroom. The basket sits on a flat pedestal base that is a separate piece
from the base for easy weaving. The new rim set (developed by David Ross)
allows the weaver to weave a domed lid using slip on rims
that fit together. The wood will be cherry or walnut
(picture is my personal basket in wormy maple). Please
contact teacher to reserve your wood choice or choose at class time. Exotic woods are available for an additional charge. The inside of the
basket has a matching wood peg to hold rings. The staves

Natural Beautiful White Oak from trees I select, cut and prepare by hand. It has
a 6" x 10" Woven Oak herringbone bottom
approximately 13" deep, a cut out in the back for carrying and a Leather
Harness for wearing. It is double lashed and will be
woven on a mold. Everyone should finish in class and
leave with a beautiful Back Pack that should last a

Make your own, one of a kind pine needle work of
art! Large selection of cabochon stones/colors to
pick from for the start. (Pricier ones will be

the class fee.) A full spool of 4 ply waxed linen is
included, more colors will be available to purchase. Feel free to bring some of
your own for variety. Students will learn to coil with waxed linen, keeping
the stitches neat and defined. Learn wrapping, adding beads, branching
out and adding a fagot lace stitch to open areas. Learn to transition and change
colors of waxed linen. Several samples will be on hand to inspire you! FUN! No 2 will look the same.

This basket starts on an ash base with holes
drilled into the base for the spokes. To create this
stylish basket several round reed techniques used are; continuous
chase, triple twining, 4-rod wale, slopes on each end with a rolled border.
The leather handle is stitched on with two buttons on each end.

finished by adding the unique piggyback handle
and the 'whirls' around the top.

I designed this basket to showcase the "Spirit of the
Woods" hand-carved wooden handle. It is
started with a 10" slotted base and smoked spokes. You will learn the triple arrow weave and French Randing with space dyed flat reed. The highlight of this creation is the unique swirled decreasing top to
which the handle is attached. You will create a
beautiful basket that is truly is one of a kind!

The Santa Fe Five is an undulating twill in the
adobe colors of the southwest. It appears as
one of my Cherokee-style twills, but this basket
repeats every 10 stakes and it has mostly 5-5 twill rows. The undulation of the weave
and the earth-tone colors blend like a
southwest landscape.
Colors are as shown: Dark and Light terra cotta, sand
tan and sky blue with natural.

This basket is started by inserting reed spokes into a
wood base. Techniques taught will include 3 rod
twining, reverse 3 rod twining. A certain number of rows will be woven and you will decide your own pattern to go along the
twining and reverse twining. You can set up as many zigs or zags as you would like in your pattern! Several colors of round reed combinations
will be available. Color choices will be red, gray,
blue, teal and black.

Students will make an Angel wing whisk broom
from all natural broomcorn hurl. This multi-purpose broom flares on both sides
resembling an angel's gown, thus the name. It
has many uses around the house; these small brooms
can easily sweep the tiniest places spotless in
no time!
Various colors of hurl to choose from and also the
twining at class time. Please bring your basket
scissors and a flat awl with you to class.

The French Bread Basket is made of all Hand Split
Natural, Beautiful White Oak, from trees I select, cut
and prepare by hand. It has a 4" x 5" Woven Oak
herringbone bottom and approximately 3" deep.
Beautiful enough for any table setting and durable
enough that it should last a lifetime. It will be woven on a
mold and everyone should finish in class.

Students will learn how to set up a Nantucket basket and to do a twill weave. Basket will be woven over a ceramic mold that will remain in the basket and will be topped off with a matching ceramic lid. Stakes and weavers will be cane. Base and cheater rim are cherry and will be
pre-finished.

Students will weave with waxed linen and cane.
Then students will choose among a variety of yarns
to create their own unique landscape. Wire and waxed linen will also

Paddock Square begins with a square base with
the corners cut at an angle. Traditional
weaving methods are used to create this basket. One of the design highlights are the brads attached
near the top of the basket. This can be done in class or wait until the basket has been stained before
attaching. Demonstration will be given in class for attaching the brads and protecting them during
the staining process. The horse on the front panel is
hand-painted.

Philly is all about round
reed, starts on an ash base with holes drilled for the
spokes. Several round reed techniques are used to
create this basket; continuous chase, triple
twining, 4-rod wale, rolled border and the addition of
the Philodendron leaf sheath. The sheath can be omitted if desired. Several colors will be available and
a variety of buttons for embellishment.

inspiration of a small Native American Storage basket. It features 4 open

want to store....but it is too pretty to put in a cupboard
out of sight!

This whimsical turtle has a
shell-shaped basket that can actually be used. The
two-step braid at the bottom and top create the
shell form. A head is woven separately with
beads for eyes. Wooden ball feet raise the shell so
the head can dip downward. A seat weaving
wedge is inserted for the tail. Most of the weaving is
simple twining. Please bring a cloth spoke
weight to class.

This large basket begins by inserting dyed and natural
spokes in a very specific pattern. Weaving consists
of 3 rod arrow pattern using round reed and
seagrass, 3 rod twining, and start/stop weaving with flat
oval reed. Students will braid small seagrass to
make the handles. Handles are then attached to the
sides of the basket with flat oval reed. Basket is then
double lashed.
