Anecdotes from Pastor Anita
During the forty days following the resurrection, Jesus spent time with his disciples. He taught them about the scriptures and how he fulfilled them in his death and resurrection. He told them about the work they were going to do as they were transformed from disciples, those who sit at a teacher’s feet, to apostles, those who are sent out to be messengers and ambassadors. After the forty days were completed Jesus ascended into heaven. How did the disciples respond? They stood there with blank looks on their faces staring up at Jesus fading out of sight. They went back to Jerusalem as Jesus had instructed and waited. On the fiftieth day, the Jewish feast-day of Pentecost, the beginning of the offering of the first fruits of the harvest, the promised Holy Spirit came upon the disciples. It was at that moment that they were transformed. They no longer sat around with blank looks on their faces. Immediately they went out and proclaimed the Gospel, the good news about Jesus. They weren’t afraid to speak out, even at the risk of their lives. They weren’t afraid to go into strange places. They were compelled to tell others what they had experienced. Sometimes, it seems as though we in the church are stuck in the forty-nine days following the resurrection. We are content to remain disciples, sitting still with blank looks on our faces. We forget that we are living in the post-Pentecost age. The Holy Spirit has come upon us, too. We should have been transformed from disciples to apostles but too often we are afraid to be sent out. We are much more comfortable staying in that upper room, even if we have no direction. The word Pentecostal has all kinds of meaning attached to it, but the reality is that we are Pentecostals. At our baptism the Holy Spirit flows into us. In our worship the Holy Spirit moves among us. And as we go out into the world the Holy Spirit goes before us and prepares those we meet to hear the good news. As we celebrate Jesus’ ascension on May 8 and Pentecost on May 15, let us remember that we, too, are the sent out ones, messengers and ambassadors for the living and risen Jesus. Let’s live our lives as those who have experienced Pentecost, trusting that God’s Spirit will guide our steps and give us the words to say. I, also, want to take time to thank those elders and deacons who are finishing their terms of office. Thank you to elders Anne Smith, Tom Bridgeland, and Pat Steva. Thank you to deacons Mary Hoernecke, Jim Bridgeland, and Garret Zoet. You have worked hard the past 3 years and we appreciate your service. In everything we do, we do it… All for Jesus,
Pastor Anita

Pat Steva HOW DOES MIDDLE CREEK CHURCH SUPPORT LOCAL MISSION? You may wonder how Middle Creek Church helps to support local mission and faith-based organizations in our community. In this third in a series of articles we are featuring Operation Rebuild, Inc. Operation Rebuild, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Huntley, Illinois and was established following the tornados in April 2015. Their primary mission is to provide disaster relief and recovery to persons affected by these storms. Operation Rebuild is operated and run solely by committed volunteers from the community and else where, who are willing to donate their time to help tornado survivors. This help may come in a variety of ways from general clean-up to helping families rebuild their homes to just offering caring concern and encouragement for neighbors in need. Last summer and fall, Middle Creek Church participated with other volunteers from churches in Blackhawk Presbytery in two, one-day mission trips to Fairdale, Illinois. We performed general clean-up, met and worked along side some of the families in the community, and helped the Young family install insulation in their new home under construction. Middle Creek Church also contributed $150 to Operation Rebuild, directed toward helping the Geist family build their new home. For additional information visit http://operationrebuild.org/.

To My Dear Friends at Middle Creek, I just wanted to say thank you for all the kindness I was shown on my big 50 - yes, I am 50!! So many of you called, dropped off cards and gifts, sang, even mailed birthday wishes. May God bless each and every one of you today and for all the tomorrows! My Middle Creek family is AWESOME! Hugs to all, Dana Pearson
Dear Ladies of Middle Creek, What a wonderful ministry you have. When Pat brought over that beautiful shawl you made I was deeply touched. I thought, “oh, these ladies don’t even know me.” I continue to look at it, and put it around my shoulders and feel a very special warmth. Chemo does make me chilly. Monday I have an all day session at the hospital and you can be sure it will be around me for many hours. Thank you dear ladies, I may not know you but I love you! Roberta Nielsen
Another Thank you! I have truly been touched by the outpouring of cards, wishes, prayers and gifts from Middle Creekers since my mouth surgery. When you are dealing with constant pain day after day it can become quite depressing but my family at Middle Creek saw I was down and showed the support and kindness only a family could share. Each one of you is a blessing from God and I thank God daily for ALL of you!! Hugs to all, Dana Pearson
Dear Kindred Heart Stitchers, What a wonderful gift I received from you :-) My beautiful quilt is such bright colors (blue, my favorite color and yellow). Just looking at it makes me smile. Thank you, not only for my precious quilt, but all of you and my M.C. family for the blessings you bring to my life. Love Peggy Viel
