POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR FOR LEARNING In this newsletter we are focussing on how South Creek School students have been staying safe both inside the classroom, in the playground and at Shine Shed. We have been practicing keeping our hands and feet down, listening to our teachers and moving safely. Well done to all students who received their first PBL Merit Award for completing 5 Terrific Turtle charts, well done!

SIGNING We are excited to have our second newsletter with new signs to learn and practice together. Carrie-Ann is sharing two videos, the first teaches us the sign for- ‘not’. The second video Carrie-Ann teaches us the sign- ‘want’.

AWARDS Congratulations to our Week 2 award recipients!

LIBRARY & ASSEMBLY Library continued today. A friendly reminder to return books and library bags so that your child can borrow each Friday of even weeks. I look forward to announcing the Library Award winners and the Assembly Award winners from today in our next newsletter!

We hope you all had a wonderful Mother’s Day. Our Mother’s Day Stall was a huge success with 94 gifts purchased for our wonderful mothers and carers. A big thank you to SLSO Michelle Johannes and the events committee for their outstanding organisation of this great initiative.

STAFF PROFESSIONAL LEARNING This week our teaching and non-teaching staff have been learning about The Disability Strategy and the Wellbeing Framework. Many new staff also completed MAPA training to ensure they can best support students when they are escalating with a strong focus on prevention. The focus this week has been the wellbeing of our amazing students.

STAFFING & CLASSES Our School Administration Manager (SAM), Allison Spora has decided to step into her Business Manager role at Casuarina School full time for the remainder of 2021. I am pleased to announce that Brooke Hosler will be relieving SAM at South Creek School from Monday. Courtney Vaalele will be replacing Helen Fenech as Assistant Principal for the year. Courtney will continue to teach on Class Pink and Glory Aluri will continue to be the classroom teacher on Class Green.

BOOK WEEK Last Friday South Creek School was visited by many book week characters! Students and teachers dressed up and paraded around the school. I was lucky enough to see ‘Where’s Wally?’, Jasmine from ‘Alladin’, and the sheep from the book ‘Where’s the Green Sheep?’ to name a few. It was a fun day for students and staff. I wonder what characters you saw?

COUNCIL WORKS The road works and footpath have now been completed on Regent Street. Yesterday they finished laying the grass. The remainder of our footpath and guttering near our walkway will be completed during the second stage of this project. As soon as we receive advice about timelines, we will let you know. The street appeal of South Creek School is certainly improving, and we hope this makes your pickup and drop off time more enjoyable with improved convenience and safety.

REPORTS Teachers are busily writing Semester 1 reports for students in their classes. School reports will be sent home in Week 10 via your child’s communication folder. We look forward to communicating your child’s achievements throughout the last two terms.

SHINE SHED For our older students visits to the Shine Shed have been happening each Thursday from Week 5 of Term 1. Students have thoroughly enjoyed this venue and I think staff have had a pretty good time there too! Unfortunately, there was one week that the Shine Shed excursion did not go ahead. For this reason, Shine Shed has been extended to Week 6. The last visit to Shine Shed will therefore be Thursday 27th May.

EID and RAMADAN For all our staff and families that celebrate EID, we hope you had a wonderful time celebrating with your loved ones. Your sincerely,

Michelle Said Principal

TURTLE TIMES

What a great start to Term 2, we have been very busy in Aqua class. Last week we had the Mother’s Day stall and the Book Parade. Students enjoyed choosing their gifts for their Mums and other special women in their lives. They really enjoyed buying it with their money. It was fantastic to see so many students in Aqua Class dressing up in costumes of our favourite book characters. Aidan and Peyjoong were dressed as Super Man, Jacob was Buzz Lightyear, Jesse-Ray came as Paddington Bear and we came as two of the fish from “One fish, two fish, red fish blue fish” By Dr. Seuss. We look forward to what the rest of Term 2 will hold.
