Where did the immigrants come from? Immigration after World War I

- Because of the civil war in Russia- Because of the treaty of Versaille

Immigration during National Socialism- Because of callbacks- Because of the anger of many people

in other countries against people with German roots

Immigration in the time of reconstruction- to work and earn money- People who had left Germany before

WW II came back

Immigration before Reunification- Families of the guest workers- Jewish people from Russia who had

fled before WW II

Immigration after World War I Because of the contracts of World War I many people had to go to other

countries in Europe Berlin was the center for Russian immigrants But there were only a few immigrants who were looking for work in Germany

1950: guest workers came to Germany because there weren‘t enough people to do all the work but there wasn‘t any integration programme most of these immigrants went back to their home countries in 1973 people who had left Germany because of WW II came back

Immigration between East and West Germany

Before the famous wall between East and West Germany was built many people fled from the Russian rule

Many people also left their home because they had family in the other part of Germany

There were also people who fled to have better chances to find work and to get a better education.

Immigration in East Germany 1950 East-Germany invited students from North Vietnam 1979 War in Vietnam, for that reason many people came per ship After 1986 people were invited from whole Vietnam About 100.000 people of Vietnam came to East-Germany

Immigration before the reunification those guest workers who had stayed in Germany fetched their families from their home countries today these families still live in Germany but they never were part of an integration programme. Jewish people from the Soviet Union came back to Germany
