MAY/JUN 2020 LETTER TO ThE MEMbERshIp
LETTER TOThE MEMbERshIpby Ryan Doerr, President of Strategic Club Solutions
Dear Members,
I hope this letter finds you safe and well. I have enjoyed meeting many of you at the MAC over the past few years. For those of you I haven’t yet had the pleasure of meeting, I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Ryan Doerr, and I’m the president of Strategic Club Solutions. I have had the privilege to serve the private Club industry as a General Manager/COO, Regional Manager and Management Company Executive for both for- and non-profit private Clubs for over 20 years. Additionally, my firm, Strategic Club Solutions, and I have had the opportunity to serve over 200 private Clubs in a variety of capacities. We have been honored to partner with the MAC for over three years, helping the Club to successfully navigate through change, and working with the Board and staff on overall Club management, programming, communications and Membership initiatives. Strategic Club Solutions is also representing the MAC through the redevelopment project, and despite delays due to the health crisis, we are excited for our next chapter to begin in the coming weeks with the kick-off of our construction project.
As I’m sure you’ve all heard by now, Governor Tony Evers plans to extend Wisconsin’s Safer At Home order until May 26, unless a revised order is established. Although these are challenging times, it is clear now more than ever how blessed we are to have a Club family like ours at the MAC. Members and staff have been embracing change and stepping outside of their comfort zones to stay connected and support one another. We’ve seen countless reminders of the incredible strength of our MAC family bonds. I hope you continue to take advantage of the ever-evolving virtual programming that the staff is making available. Make sure you also utilize your increased $75/month Food and Beverage credit when you enjoy curbside carry out meals from the Club.
In the 3+ years that my team and I have been working with the MAC, we have stood strong together through plenty of adversity, and this current situation is no exception. Thank you for your loyalty, dedication, and passion for the Club and each other. It is this strength, hope and love that makes the MAC such a special place – a place to be and be seen, to pursue life achievements and to create lifelong relationships. Our Club community sets us apart and provides a tremendous foundation for our future.
Speaking of our future, I am pleased to share that we are making significant progress on getting the project in back in motion after the recent delay due to the health crisis. Stay tuned to your emails for the latest updates and information. Rest assured, the development team and the Club are committed to seeing this project through.
Sincerely,
Ryan DoerrPresident, Strategic Club Solutions

my favorite part about working at the MAC, seeing all the Members in person and having a great time! Keep things in perspective, the COVID-19 crisis will be relatively short-term compared to the longevity of the MAC. Tough times don’t last, but the MAC will!

I miss...
The last time we stood strong together through a pandemic was in 1917, the same year our Club was built. MAC Members overcame that crisis together, and made it out on the other side with a beautiful, cherished Clubhouse.
Now, just over 100 years later, we face another pandemic at the time of our remodel. We can find strength in knowing that MAC Members have triumphed despite similar challenges in the past, and that our community will stand together to succeed and build something incredible once again.

MAY/JUN 2020
Where did you grow up and attend school?I grew up right here in Wisconsin! I moved to Chicago in my early 20s and came back home about five years ago.
When did you join the MAC?I joined the MAC at the end of February 2020.
Why did you decide to join the MAC? Since I’ve been back in Wisconsin, I’ve been looking to grow my community both personally and professionally and I hadn’t quite found my “home” yet. I attended the Roaring 20s Gala in January and I loved what I saw. People were outgoing, friendly and fun. After speaking with Maggie and attending a couple more events, I knew I found the place I was looking to be!
Is there something that inspired you to join now, despite the challenging times we are currently facing?I joined right before the pandemic began but even still, I never doubted that I made the right decision. I’ve already made friends in the short time I’ve been part of the MAC and I’ve been presented with business opportunities.
What are your interests and hobbies? How much space do we have?! I absolutely love to travel and I try to explore a new country each year. Last year I visited Vienna, Austria and Prague. This year may be a little dicey! I like being outdoors and running, kayaking and stand up paddle boarding. I enjoy live music, sporting events, and pretty much anything that offers an experience. I like people and if I’m surrounded by good people, I’m bound to have fun.
What is something people would be surprised to know about you?I got my motorcycle license 3 years ago.
What are 3 fun facts about you?I love to dress up for Halloween! You’re never too old to be a kid.I lived on a farm and participated in morning cow feedings - I quickly learned this wasn’t my jam.My nickname with my family and close family circle is Mickey. If they call me something else, I think I’m in trouble.
What is your favorite book, TV show and movie? My favorite book professionally is The Five Dysfunctions of a Team. My favorite TV show is Grey’s Anatomy, and I’m a sucker for the movies Love Actually and Sweet Home Alabama.
What is something that is on your bucket list?Skydiving! Anyone want to join me?
What are you doing to stay positive during the COVID-19 crisis?I’ve switched up my well-being practices by recognizing what worked before and what isn’t working now. It’s okay to switch things up! I’ve recreated how I connect with my family and friends by using virtual happy hours, phone calls versus text messages, and even attending virtual events together. Lastly, it’s easy to lose sight of where we’re going personally and professionally amidst what’s happening, so I’m continuing to keep my sites on my future goals and objectives. How I’m achieving them might look different, but the goals don’t change.
Is there anything else you want MAC Members to know about you?I love meeting new people. I welcome anyone to reach out to connect!

For the serious chocoholic — rich, creamy, decadent, and loaded with chocolate
INGREDIENTS 18 Oreo cookies 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted 1 tablespoon dark chocolate, melted 4 ounces brick-style cream cheese, softened 8 ounces dark chocolate, chopped 3/4 cup heaving whipping cream 1 tablespoon Baileys Irish Cream or Kahlua, optional 1/2 teaspoon salt, optional and to taste but recommended 1/2 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
INSTRUCTIONS1. Line a 9x9-inch pan with aluminum foil for easier cleanup and spray with cooking spray;
set aside.
2. To the canister of a food processor, add the Oreos (whole) and process on high speed until you have fine crumbs; set aside.
3. To a small microwave-safe bowl, add the butter, 1 tablespoon chocolate, and heat on high power until the chocolate and butter have melted and can be stirred smooth.
4. Pour melted chocolate and butter mixture into the food processor, process on high speed to incorporate, turn crumb mixture out into the prepared pan, and hard-pack the mixture to form and even flat crust layer; set aside.
5. To a large mixing bowl, add the cream cheese, and beat with a handheld electric mixer on high speed until fluffy; set aside.
6. To a separate, large, microwave-safe bowl, add the 8 ounces chopped chocolate, heavy cream, and heat in 30-second increments until the chocolate has melted and can be stirred smooth into the cream and mixture is silky, likely about 90 seconds total, but microwaves vary and you don't want to scorch your mixture.
7. Transfer the creamy chocolate mixture into the bowl with the cream cheese and beat on high power until smooth and combined.
8. Optionally add the liquor and/or salt. I really recommend not skipping the salt because it complements the chocolate flavors in the dessert and balances the richness. Actually, I added 1 full teaspoon and we still didn't think it tasted like a salted chocolate dessert but all tastes and preferences vary.
9. Evenly spread the mixture over the crust.
10. Evenly sprinkle with the mini chocolate chips and refrigerate for at least 3 hours, or overnight or a few days in advance, before slicing and serving. After the 3-hour point when dessert is well chilled, cover with foil when dessert is in the fridge. Initially, there will be some heat which will create condensation and that's why initially you don't want to cover it but after it's sufficiently chilled, yes cover it.

We know that many of you are missing
access to gym equipment right about
now. While the stay at home order
is in effect, try adding some variety
to your at-home workouts by using
simple household items that double as
workout “equipment.”
ChAIRUse a sturdy kitchen chair to do a variety
of workouts, including incline pushups,
chair planks, toe taps, tricep dips and
more. Watch Malorie’s virtual Bootcamp
from 4/14/20 for a variety of ways to
break a sweat using a chair.
wAshCLOThsUse washcloths, dish towels or even
paper plates as sliders on a hard surface.
You can do mountain climbers, front or
side pushups, lunges, and hamstring
curls. Check out Frenchy’s Full Body Blast
virtual workout for more ideas on how to
use washcloths as part of your workout.
LAUNDRY DETERgENTA jug of laundry detergent, a
sack of flour, or even a 5 pound
bag or rice can be used for
weight lifting. Try using these
heavier items for bicep curls
or kettlebell swings. Frenchy’s

variety of ideas for incorporating
heavy items from around the

TIEAn old dress tie, robe tie, or towel can

1. If you have an essential errand to run that is within
walking distance of your home, walk instead of driving.
2. For errands that are not within walking distance, park
far away so that you have to walk farther between your
car and your destination.
3.. When you get back from the grocery store, carry bags
in one at a time to gain more steps.
4. Listen to music or a podcast episode while you walk.
Looking forward to listening to a new podcast episode
or album will motivate you to get walking every day.
5. Walk your dog or bring your family so that you can
spend time together while doing a healthy activity.
Everyone is cooped up in the house right now and this
is a great way to burn off some of that energy.
6. Make a scavenger hunt for your kids with items they
might be able to spot on a walk. Bring them with you
and have fun while they check things off their list.
7. Cook a homemade meal. Your food will be healthier,
and small distances back and forth around the kitchen
add up.
8. If you have a pool, walk in the pool. This is less
stressful on joints and will allow you to build up to
walking more “on land.”
9. Change your route. This is a great time to explore a
neighborhood or park that you haven’t visited before. Use
an app like AllTrails to find new trails near you as well as
information on their difficulty level, whether they allow
dogs, are currently open during COVID-19 and more.
10. Enjoy beautiful scenery. Walk somewhere you enjoy,
like around a lake, or during sunset, to give yourself
something nice to look at while you get out of the house.
11. Improve your photography skills. Bring a camera or
even just your iPhone and take photos of eye-catching
sights on your walk.
12. Take a brain break and enjoy a quick 10 minute walk
when you’re feeling sluggish during your workday. This
can boost your mood and productivity.
13. If you’re watching TV, get up during the commercials
and walk around the house.
14. Play an active video game like Wii Fit or Dance Dance
Revolution to have fun while getting more steps in.
15. Call a friend or family member to check in and walk
while you’re on the phone.
The American Heart Association recommends that we get 10,000 steps,
or about 5 miles of walking, every day. This task may seem extra daunting
while stuck at home, but it’s more important now than ever to stay active,
both for your physical and mental health.
