“My time at Murdoch has by far been one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Before leaving home and traveling to Perth to begin my three and half year journey, I was overwhelmed with an array of conflicting emotions, from joy to sadness, excitement to fear. All of the emotions soon subsided when I arrived and was replaced with just one, appreciation. I appreciated the people, the assistance I received, the beauty of the campus, the opportunity, the experience and the country. Even after two years, I am still so thankful that I chose Murdoch to be my university.”

English for Academic Purposes (EAP)The EAP programs help students to communicate with confidence while improving vital study skills that are essential for success in an English-speaking academic environment. A student’s current level of English literacy and their desired study pathway will determine which EAP program they’ll complete.

Diploma Programs (DP)Units studied in the Diploma Programs are the same as those studied by first year Murdoch University students. As such, this pathway offers direct entry into second year study of a bachelor degree.

General English (GE)The GE program is ideal for students who would like to improve their English language skills through an experienced team of teachers, focusing on fluency, accuracy and confidence in reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Murdoch Institute of Technology Murdoch Institute of Technology (MIT) provides International students with direct pathways to undergraduate study at Murdoch University. There are a variety of programs and pathways from year 11 or 12 (or international equivalent) to suit students’ individual academic needs and career goals. Successful students of these packaged enrolments are guaranteed direct entry into Murdoch University without having to reapply.

Murdoch University Preparation Course (MUPC) The MUPC course prepares students for a successful transition into degree-level study, providing a pathway that allows students to enter into first year study of a bachelor degree at Murdoch University.

My most treasured achievement - having my research presented to the President of the United States (Barack Obama). -Dr Matthew Thompson

(Lecturer)

Leading academics Our academics have won awards, published books and achieved some amazing accomplishments – but most importantly they’re committed to helping you learn. More than 73 percent of Murdoch staff hold a doctorate degree, so you can be supported by top academics from around the globe, benefitting from their experience, knowledge and networks of contacts to help launch your own career.

Dr Mathew Thompson Lecturer in the School of Psychology and Exercise Science

As a Psychology student, you will learn from Dr Thompson, an expert in cognitive processes and on how we make decisions as human beings. Dr Thompson is fascinated by human perceptual expertise and has even had his research presented to the former President of the United States, Barack Obama.

“My most treasured intellectual achievement was having the findings of my research presented to the President of the United States in a report by the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. I hope that my research will help to reduce error in safety-critical decision making in areas such as crime-scene forensics and diagnostic medicine.”

Before starting at Murdoch, Dr Thompson was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of California, Los Angeles, and a Fellow at The University of Queensland and Harvard Medical School. He even worked with Australia’s state and federal police agencies as well as the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, so has extensive industry experience and knowledge to offer Murdoch Psychology students.
