The launch of a brand and a philosophy«Our desire is to re-enchant the world, and at the same time, re-enchant you. For you, we are not just creating a

fabulous, visual, emotional and tactile world: we are creating a world-story».

Florence Vermelle, Artistic Director

The latest brand in the Casamance group is unveiled, personifying the Luxury Products Division of this French group. However, here we are talking about a new form of luxury. A glamorous luxury that evokes the crazy

Parisian nights in the Roaring Twenties. A luxury that breaks codes and then rewrites them, always connecting to the same creative source. A luxury that whispers, that embodies itself as a woman. That woman is Misia.

WHO IS SHE  ?

The woman

Misia Godebska, name or maiden name used for anyone who has not been introduced; Misia Natanso, Misia Edwards or Misia Sert, for anybody who believed that she loved only one man. Simply Misia, for all of Paris, her court of curious people, wanderers and bourgeois. M for her admirers, a letter that personifies the mystery of this woman.

Misia has so many faces, and these are her many facets that can be seen today in paintings by Bonnard, Vuillard, Vallotton, Renoir and Toulouse-Lautrec: Misia was the most painted woman of the Twenties. Her elegance, her refinement, her charm, her love for life, her caressing voice and her artistic talent made her a muse for painters and musicians.

But Misia Sert was not only an artist. She was a catalyst of genius, capable of building a creative atmosphere all around her. She welcomed Proust and Satie, Ravel and Stravinsky, Diaghilev and Jean Cocteau, Paul Morand and Picasso, Colette and Coco Chanel - Coco Chanel, who became her close friend in 1916.

Everything about her then became a source of inspiration: her style, her interior decoration, her expressions and her outspokenness. She was known as the «Queen of Paris».

The brand

An intoxicating fragrance and a few precious fabrics. A century later, Misia comes back to life. Her name evokes gaiety, sensuality and joy so unique to Paris in the Twenties and also to the muse that inspired her.

Misia is a glittering, seductive brand. An influencer of glamour, freedom and boldness, she is inspired by and captures that roaring decade - a avant-garde decade where anything is possible - before reinterpreting it to suit her, in a resolutely modern way.

Misia plays with the codes of luxury. The products that she offers, collections of fabrics and wallcoverings, are nourished by this state of mind. The design house breaks new ground, and dares to dare, so that interior decoration is not simply down to good taste. Mysterious, she includes details that inspire her; she selects and adapts the beauty of yesterday and today; and, who knows... the beauty of tomorrow.

WHERE DOES SHE COME FROM ?

The Artistic Director

Florence Vermelle was born in Lille in 1967 and comes from a family where art wedded Cartesianism. Her mother went to a Fine Arts School and her father went to an industrial Art and Design Engineering school. Her world was centered around Charles Eames and his avant- garde furniture. Aesthetics turned into a lifestyle.

Florence will always be strongly attached to her roots in Lille. From an early age, she was immersed in the Art of Decoration favoured by patrons from leading families in the North of France. In 1996, she joined Texdecor, a family company whose core business is rooted in the Textile Industry.

Although the collections designed by Florence emerge from her creative imagination, their roots lie far from the design workshop. Her childhood in Casablanca was only a prelude. India, America, Europe, China ... every period, destination and culture have fuelled her inspiration, sometimes giving rise to the most beautiful projects of her career. Projects that have become brands. Casamance Fine Fabrics in 2000, and its wallpapers 2 years later. Camengo in 2004. And finally Misia, in 2014, the newest edition in a long line.

During her travels, Florence loved to meet new people. The most unexpected meetings often turned out to be the most inspiring and the most beautiful. Her intense enthusiasm at meeting Jayshree Poddar, the Indian Artist who was behind «Les Clés de l’Archipel» collection, is a perfect example.

More than just enriching meetings, Florence has the skill to unearth new trends. Trends cannot be invented. They are sensed. They are detected… even hunted down. What was unique about Visionaries was that they could seek, see and sense things like nobody else. In this respect, Florence, has got something of a visionary. She uses her intuition to look out for the slightest element that will make her project blossom.

Her impulses are full of passion. Florence displays a unique finesse in the way she subtly blends colours. Colours act as a vital anchor for her collections. Beauty, elegance and sophistication, which are essential to her, are unconsciously placed at the heart of design. And should these concepts be subjective for some, quality, on the other hand is more objective and enables to value a product, such as, for instance, the finesse of a woven fabric. Florence wanted that Misia fabrics had that unprecedented finesse.

But don’t say it too loud. Art is a luxury, and luxury is an Art ... that should only be whispered.

The group

Misia is part of the Casamance group. After over 40 years of experience and an international influence, the group has established itself as a major player in the manufacture and edition of fine fabrics, wallpapers and wall coverings; providing a new vision of French interior decoration and elegance.

The Casamance house is wide open ... open to the world, the cultures, the past and the future, to what makes today’s aesthetics. With its 3 brands, Camengo, Casamance and Misia, the Casamance group observes, listens and designs its collections in a spirit of openness, where an omnipresent pleasure leaves its mark. It is all about the pleasure of being unique, being in line with the times and also the pleasure of working, and growing together. Because the happiness of living and relaxing at home is a genuine driving force, the Casamance group creates decorations that make the world a more beautiful, refined and elegant place to be.

As the newest brand in the group, Misia is taking advantage of the group’s unique expertise in the development of materials and textures, its new ideas and innovative manufacturing processes. It inherits the French codes of refinement, and especially that special capacity of knowing what should - or what could - be tomorrow’s luxury. In fact, .. what is luxury.

WHAT DOES IT OFFER YOU ?

Dream

Misia is highly based on experience. Every trips, escapades and collections are the fruits and the essence of an artistic, emotional and sensory experience. Rich in anecdotes, fragments of stories and dreams, Misia fabrics are much more than simply a delight for the eye, or to touch: they enchant the senses with a myriad of different meanings. They are part of a world-story,which, in this first year, will tell you the history of its first two collections.

Two launch-collections

For this first launch, two collections of fabrics and wall coverings are merging together, to tell one and the same story.

Paris Festive

Based on a festive and inspirational world, the first collection, «Paris Festive», recounts the charm and glamour of the Parisian nights. The collection plays seductively with astonishing satin sheen chiaroscuros. Silky, sensual, refined, its velvet laminations melt invitingly into satins with a mirror-like touch. The range of colours draws on the fiery passions of Paris in the Twenties: exhilarating gold or champagne, pearl or silver jealousy, ivory or amber copper passion.

Les Clés de l‘Archipel

Then Misia sweeps away the lethargy of those sleepless nights with one stroke. Free, she flees out to the other side of the Atlantic, to find her second wind in «Les Clés de l’Archipel» collection. In Miami, the sun casts its range of pastel or arty pop shades. Printed velvet and small hexagonal patterns compete boldly with large silks and iconic curves. In the meantime, a wind from the archipelago, off the coast of Florida, gently wafts fragrances of rose, amaranth and tropical islands: natural linens and cottons blend with thick velvets, raised patterns and textured silks.

In our desire to establish a tradition of excellence, we have taken utmost care in selecting the best weavers in Europe and the best Indian partners. Through them, the brand honours and supports one of this country’s most ancient skills: the making of precious silks.

The manufacturing processes of Misia products comply with the high quality standards set by the brand. Faithful to French manufacturing traditions and codes of refinement, our approach, which focusses on research, diversity and confrontation, aims each year to offer products that are in step with their time, by using new innovative techniques in textiles, furnishings and wall coverings.

The Misia brand design house consists of a team of passionate individuals who place all their sensitivity, desire for perfection, experience and commitment at the disposal of this brand. Their aim is to develop collections that re-enchant the world of interior decoration every day.

WHAT WILL SHE LEAVE BEHIND HER ?Misia is boldness, sensuality and refinement. It’s the charm of a Parisian night. The curiosity and freedom to fly off to the other end of the world, if it so chooses. The clear hallmarks of a French brand.

Misia, is the desire for a new type of luxury.

At the dawn of a modern dream, Misia, is gently provocative, orchestrating and choosing her world. A world that is written through stories. A world that never gets bored.
