• Ears - The aural aspect of drumming. This includes developing your ability to hear what

you are playing, analyze how it sounds, and to listen to other aspects of music apart

from the drums. Without developing skills in this area, you will be unable to make

musical decisions and fine-tune your sound. Here are some ways to focus on your ears:

o lmprovisation: includes Simon Says exercises, solo techniques, trading 4's and

8's, playing to music, monthly collaborations, and more.

o Timing: includes working with a metronome, developing your sense of time,

playing in the pocket, playing ahead or behind the beat, and more.

o Dynamics: includes ghost notes, accents, dynamic contrai, crescendos and

decrescendos, heel up and heel down bass drum technique, and more.

o Learning Songs: including song structure, Learn Songs Faster, playing what you

hear, actively listening to music, and monthly collaborations.

This list is full of suggestions of things to practice that will help you maintain a healthy balance in

your routine, and you can find lessons on each one of these points within Drumeo Edge. Feel

free to add your own to the list to help maintain that balance!

See you in the next lesson!
