Moseley in BloomThe Moseley in Bloom volunteers are getting busy, working towards RHS judging on 17 July.
The hanging baskets will soon go up in the Village and the Open Gardens weekend takes place on 29/30 June.
Open gardens teas are now famous and visitors will be entertained by musicians while they take their refreshments.
Tickets are available on the day - £5 for one day, £7.50 for the weekend and under-twelves go free.
New this year are garden talks on topics as varied as organic gardening, bee-keeping and late flowering perennials. See the website for the full programme.
Photography Competition
Also this year there is a photography competition to raise awareness about litter in Moseley. With reductions in street cleaning and waste collection, we need to make sure that the community does everything possible to keep Moseley clean.

Moseley Flower Arranging Competition
A brand new flower arranging competition is taking place on Saturday 27th July 2013 at St Mary’s Church, Moseley.
The competition is open to all, with entry classes ranging from tiny tots to experienced floral artists, and from individual entries to groups and everything in between. It looks like there really is something for everyone.
Themes include Moseley Market Day, Flowers from a Summer Garden and Summer Holidays - why not give it a go?
Assistance will be available on the day for beginners and there will be a flower arranging demonstration. There will also be refreshments and a raffle.
The competition commences 9.00am and doors will be open to the public from 11.00am til 2.00pm.

Finally after years of planning and hard work Sarehole Mill has taken a step back in time to mill again after nearly a hundred years out of action.
With a team of ten local committed volunteer millers, a newly dredged pond and extensive renovations to the machinery, the mill is now back in action.
For training the mill is grinding barley flour for a local farmer to feed his livestock. But the plan, by the summer, is to mill wheat flour and bake it into bread in the on-site historic bakery. The mill will run a baking event in the summer when you will be able to sample bread made the old fashioned way out of ‘Sarehole Milled’ stone ground flour.
To see the mill in action just go along any Wednesday or Sunday. The summer baking days will be announced on their website after all the equipment has been fully tested and they are ready to feed the public. So keep an eye on http://www.bmag.org.uk/events to make sure you don’t miss your chance.
Sarehole Mill is a stunning historical landmark with a full programme of events for all the family.

Do you employ people?Employment law can be a minefield, especially for small businesses run by busy owner managers.
And with recent and planned changes in the law, coupled with the poor economic climate, now more than ever employers need to ensure they comply with the relevant legislation. In this issue’s ‘meet the team at Tyndallwoods’ feature we meet Kate Garrett, Solicitor who specialises in employment law acting on behalf of both employers and employees.
Kate often meets new clients when they have reached a crisis point, faced for example with the threat of a tribunal claim such as unfair dismissal.
Her advice to employers is to obtain legal advice prior to making any decisions which will affect employees. It may only take a couple of hours to obtain legal advice which, when compared to the time and cost involved in defending a tribunal claim, is time and money well spent.
Much of Kate’s advice is pure common sense but she is surprised by how often basic practices and procedures are ignored by employers for example, the requirement for employees to receive a Written Statement of the main terms and conditions of employment within two calendar months of starting work. And if a business is looking to reduce pay or hours there needs to be a formal two-way consultation process.
Finally Kate stresses that when faced with a disgruntled employee or ex-employee there is an alternative to going through a tribunal. In some cases a Compromise Agreement can be
used removing the need to attend the tribunal. A Compromise Agreement may sometimes be a difficult choice to make when emotions are running high – but they can potentially reduce the overall cost to the employer.
