Monthly Newsletter September 8th The Kissing Hand Hello, We are starting a new book this week. The children can relate to the little raccoon who feels a little bit scared about his first day at school. It is a great way to discuss how the Chester Raccoon is feeling. It also allows children to see that they have a connection with Chester. Many children will state to their classmates that they too felt the way Chester felt on the first day of school. Chester’s mommy reassures him that he will have fun at school. It is definitely a great way to tackle the topics of emotions and how to express one's emotions. This also shows children that their mom’s or dad’s are always there with them in their heart no matter where they go. There are many different activities to be done with this book and all you need to do is google the book to see for yourself. introduce 3 new games the first game is a version of memory. We will match vocabulary pictures from our story, colors, and shapes. I recommend playing memory games at home. If you already have some you can make it easier by only laying out six matches to turn over, to make it more challenging you can increasing the number of matches to find. The second game is a Hershey Kisses game. The students practiced counting to 4 or less using one to one correspondence. Of course, we were able to eat some too. If you have skittles, Lucky charms, fruit loops, colored goldfish or m&m’s at home you can sort them by color before you enjoy a treat. We will also play an emotions bingo. While discussing our emotions happy, sad, mad, bored, frustrated, sleepy, and excited.!
