GMV goes LARGE MULTIPROCESSMore fl exible than ever:

There is always something new at GMV AS. The company is developing rapidly and “Maskinregisteret” was presented the large

MULTIPROCESS machine that shines in the main production hall. IBARMIA ZVH 58/L6000 MULTIPROCESS makes GMV a more fl exible

and competitive company.

There is space to process large components in IBARMIA ZVH 58/L6000 MULTI PROCESS.

- We are very satisfi ed with the machine, probably we go for another of the same type, says Mikal Stene, Production Manager at GMV AS.

GMV AS is one of the fastest growing machining workshops. The company has gone from versatile mechanical work and relative short horizon of work assignments to a more production orientated work, with certain orders taking several months and including assembly, testing and documentation. Tor Ole Talgo and his associates are well known for meeting their customers’ requirements with heavy investments. Here you will see why they went to the Basque Country to fi nd the ideal machine.

CURIOUS FROM THE BEGINNINGWe looked for a large and fl exible multi tasking machine but many of the machines in the market fell short in size and fl exibility. Then IBARMIA came up. We saw the machine at a machine tool exhibition and gave us a good impression. We contacted KASPO as the Norwegian distributor of this machine to get more information about what this company could do for us, explains Michal Stene, Production Manager at GMVAS.

CONVINCEDKaspo suggested a visit to theBasque machine manufacturer tobecome better acquainted with theirphilosophy and quality level. What struck us immediately wasthe enthusiasm and the immediate

availability from professionals atIBARMIA.GMV is a relatively small business, but we were treated as if we were the most important customer for this machine manufacturer, explains Stene and continues:This seriousness made us very interested in what they could off er; they showed us they could make exactly what we required. We were so convinced that we ordered a bespoke machine, ie the only one of its kind based on our specifi c requirements. Stene shows us a brochure made

by the manufacturer with the name “GMV machine”.

POSITIVE ALSO FOR KASPOThe process of this new machine for GMV has given us useful experience. Not only because GMV is a demandingcustomer with very high demandsof quality and complexity. Therehas been a lot of communicationbetween the factory and GMV so wehave seen the project from bothparties side, which we can take with us to others projects, says Ove Undheim from Kaspo Maskin A.

THE “KINDER EGG” MACHINEA Mechanical “kinder egg” IBARMIA ZVH 58/L6000 MULTIPROCESScombination of a 5-axis milling withboth vertical and horizontal latheswith 800 mm support and Tailstock.Biggest vertical turning diameter is 1650 mm and the maximum horizontal length is 6000 mm.Moreover, there is a machine divider so that one can buckle up a new job inone part of the machine while it is working fully in the other part.- This fl exibility we believe is a proper“Kinder egg” - three in one.The machine is tailored to our industry, and therefore it also integrates a tool changer for long Silent Tools, the longest in the market, says production manager. When “maskinregisteret” was visitinga 1400 mm long Silent Tool tool was ready to be used. According to Stene, the machine is extremely precise.- There are many positive things to say about the machine manufacturerand the machine. One of many thingsis that you can freely choose the CnC control, it does not really matter for us since we are running GibbsCAM on all computers, but for other clients there may be an advantage.

Another positive experience we had is that although IBARMIA had little experience with Long Silent Tools, they took the challenge Very seriously. They sent us regularly testresults and reports which we really appreciated, says Stene.

LOOKING FOR NEWOPPORTUNITIES- When we bought the machinewe had no customers for it, butwith this fl exible machine, we seeopportunities to run new, even

more complex parts than before. Wemean increasing competitivenessand making our business even moreattractive for existing and newcustomers. In fact, we are so pleasedthat these days we areconsideringanother machine from IBARMIA,probably quite identical, concludesMichal Stene.
