Instructions in this service booklet are indicated by the traditional symbol ¶, called a “pilcrow.”

! e postures for prayer include kneeling, refl ecting the many biblical invitations to kneel before

God and even to fall upon our faces in his presence. When worship was translated into the ver-

nacular during the Reformation, the familiar Latin titles for Psalms and other standard texts

were preserved; for instance, we refer to the “Gloria Patri” not the “Glory Be to the Father;” some

of these titles are used here. Where hymns are listed, the name of the tune appears right-fl ush in

small caps. Scripture lessons are taken from the English Standard Version.

! e church has been given a new Steinway grand piano, which will be heard for the fi rst time in

worship today. It will be dedicated at a worship service in the near future.

the prelude

¶ Music is played upon the organ or by the musicians, preparing us in body and mind to enter

into the Lord’s worship.

Introit(11 am)

Christ is Made the Sure Foundation

Christ is made the sure foundation,

Christ the Head and Cornerstone;

chosen of the Lord, and precious, binding all the Church in one.

Holy Zion’s help for ever, and her confi dence alone.

To this temple, where we call thee, come, O Lord of hosts today;

with thy wonted loving kindness hear thy servants as they pray,

and thy fullest benediction shed within its walls alway.

Laud and honor to the Father, laud and honor to the Son.

Laud and honor to the Spirit, ever three and ever one,

One in might, and one in glory, while unending ages run.

Words: Latin Hymn, translated by John Mason Neale (1818-1866)

Music: Dale Wood (1934-2003)

¶ At the conclusion of the Introit, the People stand.

call to worship from Psalm 95

Leader O come, let us sing unto the Lord;

let us heartily rejoice in the strength of our salvation.

People Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving

and show ourselves glad in him with psalms.

Leader O come, let us worship and fall down,

and kneel before the Lord our Maker.

People For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture,

and the sheep of his hand.

hymn

All People That On Earth Do Dwell Old Hundredth

At the 11:00am service, the Choir sings stanzas 3 and 4 alone. At 8:30, the People sing all stanzas.

1 All people that on earth do dwell,

sing to the Lord with cheerful voice;

him serve with fear, his praise forth tell;

come ye before him and rejoice.

2  e Lord ye know is God indeed;

without our aid he did us make.

we are his folk, he doth us feed,

and for his sheep he doth us take.

3 O, enter then his gates with praise;

approach with joy his courts unto;

praise, laud, and bless his name always,

for it is seemly so to do.

4 For why? " e Lord our God is good:

his mercy is for ever sure;

his truth at all times fi rmly stood

and shall from age to age endure. (brief interlude)

5 To Father, Son, and Holy Ghost,

the God whom heaven and earth adore,

from men and from the angel host

be praise and glory evermore. Amen.

and lead us not into trial, but deliver us from the Evil One.

For thine is the kingdom,

and the power, and the glory,

for ever. Amen.

LIFE OF THE CHURCH & ANNOUNCEMENTSPresentation of New Members to the Congregation

Anthem (11 am)

Arise, O God, and Shine

Arise, O God and shine in all thy saving might

and prosper each design to spread thy glorious light;

Let healing streams of mercy fl ow

that all the earth thy truth may know.

Bring distant nations near to sing thy glorious praise;

Let every people hear and learn thy holy ways.

Reign, mighty God, assert thy cause,

and govern by thy righteous laws.

Put forth thy glorious pow’r that gentiles all may see

and earth present her store in converts born to thee.

God our own God, his church will bless

and fi ll the world with righteousness.

To God the only wise, the one immortal King,

let alleluias rise from every thing;

Let all that breath, on every coast,

praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

Words: William Hurn (1754-1829) | Music: Walter L. Pelz (b. 1926)
