PARENTS ASSOCIATION

The Parents Association are planning two major fundraisers in term four this

year.

Firstly, the Great Victorian Bike Ride is stopping overnight in Mortlake on Mon-

Forum this week to show our interest in this major fundraising opportunity.

Secondly, two Mortlake College Families have generously agreed to have their

gardens opened to the public for an Open Garden Day in October or November.

At our next meeting we are starting to plan the Open Garden Day, finalising the

catering in the canteen at the Junior Football & Netball Day on Wednesday

22nd June and reviewing the staff wish lists from last year.

Everyone is welcome to attend the Parents Association, and we would love to

have your input with planning this years fundraising events.

P-4 Place Prep – Four Fitness

During house time on Tuesday mornings, the Prep – Fours have fit-

ness. Our very capable and enthusiastic house captains (Charlie, Al-

ice, Nirvana, Jordyn, Chelsea and Ashton) organise these activities

each week. Some weeks we play games, like tunnel ball, relays,

wake’n’shake, chain tiggy, jail tiggy, fruit salad. Once each house

has done each activity we rotate around. It is a great way to warm

up and start the day fresh, and it’s also good to get to know the

other people in your house.

After School Snacks

SpinachMufinRecipe

Ingredients to make 15 muffins:

3/4 cup of pureed spinach

1 teaspoon vanilla

2 eggs

1/4 cup of oil

1/2 cup of applesauce

2 cups of flour

3/4 cup of sugar

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon of salt

Directions

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees and spray a

muffin n with cooking spray. This muffin reci-

pe will make 15 yummy spinach muffins.

You will want to start with pureed spinach. Pu-

ree ahead of me and then freeze it in an ice cube tray. (or bought cooked spinach will work as

well)

Once you have your pureed spinach, use 3/4 cups of it in a blender and add the vanilla, eggs,

oil and applesauce. Basically, throw all your wet ingredients into the blender and blend unl

mixed together.

In a large bowl, combine all the dry ingredients – flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and

salt

Mix the wet and dry ingredients unl a baer forms and pour into muffin ns so each muffin is

2/3 full. Bake for 20 minutes at 180 degrees or unl a toothpick inserted into the center comes

out clean

When I first made these muffins I was worried about how they would taste. Would they have a

spinach flavor? Would my kids eat them or be freaked out by the green color? All my worries

were erased when I tasted them. They are moist and delicious and you can’t taste the spinach

at all. Veggie averse kids loved them and request them all the me

These are so good fresh out of the oven with a lile buer. They also freeze well. The next

me your child turns up their nose at the veggies you offer, try this easy spinach muffin recipe

Breakfast at Mortlake College

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Mortlake College needs your help!

Next term our regular Tuesday breakfast program will connue but will

run from the Wellbeing Centre whilst the Home Eco room is being reno-

vated. We will be introducing an updated School Breakfast Program

which will run every morning before school. This modified breakfast

program will cater for a smaller number of students than our current Tuesday breakfast and will con-

nue to be offered in the Wellbeing Centre.

Our school is parcipang in the School Breakfast Clubs Program. The Victorian Government has part-

nered with Foodbank Victoria to help ensure that all kids have a healthy and nutrious start to the

day. Foodbank Victoria will now be delivering regular free breakfast food to support our exisng

school breakfast club.

Our school breakfast club aims to ensure students start the day with a healthy meal, to help students

concentrate and make the most out of their school day.

The school is seeking parents to volunteer to help with the program each morning by assisng with

breakfast set up, serving of food, pack up and engaging with the students.

If you are available to help out any parcular mornings please contact Kerry Boyden.

For students wanng to have breakfast, this is a free program, not requiring prior booking or arrange-

ments. Students and parents need to allow enough me to be able to access the program before the

start of the school day. We look forward to happy healthy mornings connuing in term 3.

Health and wellbeing Needs Survey Results

Recently the school community undertook a survey wrien by Laura from Terang and Mortlake

Health Service about what were the school community’s areas of health concerns. Parents, teachers

and students in years 5-12 filled out the survey. The results varied, and there were lots of posive

comments. Overall there seemed to be a trend to healthy eang and mental health as topics of con-

cern. Some of the suggesons have already been followed up and acted upon. The health and well-

being commiee will use this informaon to help guide future strategies to support the students and

families of Mortlake College.
