Empowering young women to thrive when their learning styles take center stage

After conducting a pilot program last year, Mother McAuley has embarked on an exciting step forward in our academic and technological growth through the introduction of a 1:1 iPad® Program. Catherine McAuley Honors ScholarsThe Catherine McAuley Honors Scholars program (CMHS) recognizes superior academic achievement, offers opportunities for academic and cultural enrichment, encourages further development of skills and talents and rewards high scoring students for their endeavors.

Members and their parents have an additional resource for securing information about colleges, summer studies and scholarship opportunities. Students meet with the program director to discuss career goals and formulate a high school plan with courses that will give them the experience and credits they need to meet those goals. After-school speaker series with accomplished alumnae in a variety of fields allow the students a chance to learn about career opportunities while a meet-and-greet with college-aged CMHS alumnae allow them to learn more about colleges and various majors offered. Field trips for college campus tours are offered throughout the year to junior and senior members, as well.

CMHS members of the Class of 2014 are currently attending The Juilliard School, the United States Coast Guard Academy, the University of Chicago, Northwestern University, the American University of Paris, the Milwaukee School of Engineering, St. Louis University, the University of Illinois and more.

Learning Resource CenterThe McAuley Learning Resource Program was established in 2002 to meet the individual needs of students who face learning obstacles during their high school years, yet demonstrate the potential to succeed in a college prep program.

Unlike students in other learning assistance programs, McAuley students are mainstreamed into the student body and are given the tools to successfully complete the core curriculum, elective programs and graduation requirements of our college preparatory program. The program produces independent and self-advocating learners who are prepared for post-secondary learning. By senior year, the students are welcome to use the LRC, but most no longer need the extra assistance.

The Class of 2014 had a 100% acceptance rate into college for students involved in the Learning Resource Program. LRC students currently attend: Ball State University, Columbia College, Edison State College, Lake Forest College, Saint Ambrose University, Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, IN, Saint Xavier University and more.

Empowering young women to respond compassionately to the needs of their community

8

Page 9: Mother McAuley Viewbook

ServiceService is an essential dimension of the mission of the school. Through direct service and reflection, students respond compassionately to the needs of the community and realize the importance of their roles in a global society. McAuley students provide over 25,000 hours of service to the community.

PrayerPrayer and liturgy are integral parts of the McAuley experi-ence. Theology courses are grounded in Catholic, Christian and Mercy traditions. They serve to guide your individual faith formation. The values students gain will influence their choices for a lifetime. Every day, every class begins with prayer.

RetreatsRetreats are a critical part of the faith formation. During the first three years, the retreats reflect that year’s curriculum. As seniors, the girls are invited to attend a Kairos weekend where they deepen their sense of spirituality and faith.

The young women of Mother McAuley High School have inherited a great tradition and a great responsibility. They are challenged to preserve their faith and make it grow, to have the courage to live by the Catholic values they believe in, to take the initiative to be women of the 21st century – educated women who respond to the needs of others. The faculty, staff and administration share in Catherine McAuley’s call to empower girls by serving as positive role models with a deep commitment to their faith and each other.

Alumnae Inspiration...

10

McAuley taught me the importance of questioning and challenging the status quo in society. For the first time in my life I had sisters in Christ that weren’t afraid to lead organizations and spearhead social movements. The values that I learned as a Mighty Mac gave me the drive to impact others and strive to be a part of something bigger than myself.

McAuley gave me the inner compass that has helped guide me both professionally and personally, a chance to meet so many that I will always call my friends, a quality education, con-fidence, compassion, perseverance, leadership skills and the opportunity to explore my interests.

My time at McAuley can be summed up

into one word: Fun. I can’t help but smile when I remember watching the fall musicals, a Mercy Day celebration, or cheering a team to state as they rode down the halls in a golf cart. On top of all this, it’s the goofy moments with the friends I made there (and keep to this day) that make me truly appre-ciate the specialness of the Mother McAuley community.

Self-confidence is the key to transforming skills and knowledge into success. With healthy self-confidence, girls are prepared to step outside of their comfort zone and excel in any workplace or social situation. McAuley students view success and accomplishments as desired goals and are truly proud to see each other succeed. They develop lifelong friendships and support and encourage one another to become assertive, compassionate leaders in their community and the world.

11

McAuley certainly prepared me for college but it’s more than just the academics. I had great opportunities to learn about myself and share new experiences, like learning to play the viola (and play for the next three years) when I had never picked up an instrument before or going on a mission trip to Clinton, VA and using power tools to fix up someone’s house. My time at McAuley shaped me for the rest of my life.

I have always attributed my adaptability, love of education and motivation to the foundation that Mother McAuley established. I gained self-confidence, strength and the ability to speak and stand up for what I believe. I learned critical thinking skills while I was given the opportunity to be creative and grow. I received unparalleled encourage-

ment and support from the McAuley community, including unforgettable teachers and supportive staff members.

The McAuley family taught me to embrace the strength that comes with being a confident and self-motivated woman. McAuley refined my skills to better analyze and articulate matters, giving me the tools necessary to assist my clients to the fullest potential. There is something truly special about the McAuley spirit. It teaches the power of giving back and the importance of building bonds that last a lifetime.
