For most banks, success is about how manyaccounts you can open, how quickly you canmove customers through the teller line, orhow many loans you can close. We’re differentthan most. And, we have different measures ofsuccess. Did we do all we could to make everycustomer interaction a pleasant one? Are we
making this community better? Are we making adifference to this area? These are lofty goals, butthey are ones we’re always striving for because,as a true community bank, we know these areour responsibilities. You’ll get great financial toolswhen you bank with us, but we don’t stop there. We’re more than just a bank.
PROUD TO BE A WINTRUST COMMUNITY BANK. We are nearly 3,500 community and commercial bankers, home loan officers, financialadvisors and specialty lenders focused solely on our customers and the communities where they live. We all have the same mission: Toprovide best-in-class financial services to all of our customers, be the local alternative to the big banks, and to improve the communitieswhich we call home.

prospering northwest suburb of Chicago, Mount Prospect is conveniently located along a Metra train line only 25 minutes
from downtown Chicago’s Loop. e proximity to Chicago coupled with the peaceful suburban setting, make Mount Prospect a popular destination with home shoppers seeking convenient, reliable access to Chicago, yet looking for the quiet “Leave it to Beaver” setting of modern day suburbs.
Single-family homes in Mount Prospect consist predominantly of
post-war construction in the 1950’s with the last of the major construction boom ending in the mid-late 1960’s. Today, the scarcity of available land limits the new construction to either teardowns or whatever redevelopment opportunities arise.
Housing styles range from ranches, Cape Cods, split-levels, Georgians up to the larger colonials. Prices range from the low $200,000’s for the smaller homes, up to the high $500,000’s, with a few larger homes and

teardowns selling in the $700,000 to $800,000 range. Condominiums and townhomes range from the mid $100,000’s to $400,000.
Like most of the country, Mount Prospect is beginning to recover from the down market experienced by most of the country from 2006 – 2012. Rising prices combined with low interest rates have created high demands in towns like Mount Prospect. “Both home prices and interest rates are expected to climb, so why wait?” says Tom Zander, Real Estate Broker and Co-Owner of Picket Fence Realty of Mount Prospect. “2015 has seen a record number of home sales so far compared to previous years going back as far as the year 2000.” Added Zander.
When it comes right down to it, solid schools, prosperous and attractive park districts, a popular Library, easy access to the city of Chicago, and scally sound government make Mount Prospect a good bet for today’s home shoppers seeking to make a wise investment in a home.

one in on Mount Prospect Public Library’s new Second Floor. Located at 10 S. Emerson St., the library relied on community and patron insights for a recent update of the
building’s Second Floor. “ e new Second Floor is zoned for a variety of activities,” said Dale
Heath, Research Services department head. Patrons interested in quiet study, small group meetings, computer use, or a chat over a cup of co ee now have spaces that meet their needs. A dedicated Teen area o ers this age group a place to study, read, play games, and more.
Features of the renovated Second Floor include:
Seven additional meeting rooms, including ve study rooms and two conference rooms to accommodate individuals and small groups.
e Mount Prospect Public Library Foundation conference room is wired for audio-visual needs and may be rented by small businesses.
A café vending area for a drink or a quick snack.
Teens get a spot of their own with the Teen collection close by.
Quiet and moderate noise areas allow all patrons to e ectively use the Library for collaborative study or individual work. Even the computer areas will be zoned for di erent activities.
“Patrons have been asking for more meeting space as well as areas that can accommodate a range of activities,” said Heath. “We also know that teens need their own space, but that they come to the Library to use other services, as well.”
What has not changed? e Second Floor is still bright, open, cheerful, and welcoming. Sta continues to be available on multiple service desks, helping patrons with everything from nding a great novel or biography to guiding them through the use of Web resources on genealogy, car repair, investments and more, to assisting with a job search.
On the rst oor, Youth Services is planning an exciting and innovating STEAM programming in the Discovery Zone, as well as materials and services for early readers and children with special needs.
“ e Library’s mission of bringing our community the services and collections they need will always remain,” said Library Executive Director Marilyn Genther.

rospective businesspeople and restaurateurs who would like to start their own business and be their own boss couldn’t live in a more nurturing community than Mount Prospect.
For the past four years the Chamber, the Village and the Mount Prospect Public Library have been working together to provide a comprehensive set of programs and services to help these aspiring business owners realize their dreams – hopefully, within Mount Prospect.
is all-out e ort to encourage and support new business owners, launched in January, 2012 as Entrepreneurs’ Café, has grown and expanded over the years because, not only has it drawn large and enthusiastic groups of people to its programs, but because everyone involved understands the importance of small, locally owned and operated businesses to a community’s economic well-being.
“ e original intent with Entrepreneurs’ Café was very broad. We just wanted to help people who wanted to start their own business and didn’t know how or were hesitant about navigating through the Village processes; or those who wanted to transition to the next step like moving their busi-ness out of their home and didn’t have the time, energy or money to enroll in a class,” recalled Dawn Fletcher Collins, executive director of the Mount Prospect Chamber of Commerce.
“Our main goal was to connect future entrepreneurs to current, success-ful entrepreneurs so that they could help with things like writing a business plan, realistic marketing, balancing the books, etc. We also established a website where we post interactive webinars produced by organizations like the Small Business Association (SBA) and keep a calendar of Entre-preneurs’ Café events,” explained Nellie Beckner, senior planner with the Village’s Community Development Department.
“We knew that we wanted to watch our community grow in a positive
way from people who are already here, not just by attracting more national chains,” Collins stated.
“Now, four years later, the e ort has so much traction that a name change made sense. ‘ e Mount Prospect Entrepreneurs Initiative’ is an umbrella over the Café, the e-newsletter and website that the Village generates, the Spotlight on Success lm series at the library, the personalized business reference services o ered by the library, the mentors and support from the Chamber and the Downtown Merchants and anything else that comes up,” she continued.
“ ese are all just di erent facets of the same e ort. We are trying to connect to the business community from many di erent perspectives,” explained Joe Collier, business reference librarian, who was introduced at the October EDC breakfast. “For instance, we see the Spotlight on Success lm series as inspirational and the Café as educational. e Chamber, Village and Library representatives work together as a team to come up with ideas for new and innovative programming. Often, the library is able to o er both the space to meet and contact information for prospective presenters. We are also able to search for inspiring, business-related lms. It is a natural t.”
“Entrepreneurs’ Café will continue meeting periodically to provide the educational component. In fact, we hope to o er a bi-lingual meeting on the south side of town, at the Community Connections Center, to further close the information gap for business owners who don’t speak English,” Beckner said.
“We have even held a networking event speci cally for those interested in opening restaurants. A signi cant number of entrepreneurs choose to open restaurants rather than another type of business, so this is an import-ant subgroup for us,” she explained.

MPEIMount Prospect Entrepreneurs Initiative e team is also planning to initiate a series of podcasts in 2016 in
which local businesspeople are able to share their stories of success, as well as their cautionary tales of defeat. Both are enlightening and valuable, according to Collier.
e library is also using its partnership in the MPEI to promote its Ref-erence By Appointment (RBA) service, he said. is service allows anyone to schedule an hour of one-on-one time with a librarian. He or she can help with everything from the best ways to use a particular database to nd potential customers or vendors, to how to construct a resume or ll out an online job application.
“We are trying to remove barriers individuals might encounter like having no computer access or computer knowledge. It is so much better to engage someone from the business community one-on-one in a private appointment than to try to answer questions in a group after a program ends,” Collier stated.
“Our Mount Prospect Entrepreneurs’ Initiative is driven by the needs of our residents as prospective entrepreneurs and the business community and that will continue,” explained Collins. “We plan the events and pro-grams to be fruitful and engaging. We are casting our net far and wide and if we can’t speci cally meet a need ourselves, we will nd someone who can. It is a win for the Mount Prospect Community.”
e “umbrella” of the MPEI includes the following:
ENTREPRENEURS CAFÉ
e Entrepreneurs Café o ering under the MPEI umbrella remains the same as when launched
in 2012. Programs and information events are intended for prospective, new and/or existing business owners with topics driven by requests/needs of the attendees. We expect to o er several Entrepreneurs Café presenta-tions again in 2016; in addition to the ongoing
Jump Start Your Business program, o ered quarterly through the part-nership of the Village of Mount Prospect, Mount Prospect Public Library and Mount Prospect Chamber of Commerce.
SPOTLIGHT ON SUCCESS FILM SERIES
e Spotlight on Success FILM SERIES includes lms with an entrepre-neurial focus that educate and inspire.
Our schedule includes 4 lms per year. To date, the Steve Jobs interviews/documentaries have been the most enjoyed. Open to the general public with the intention of enlightening discussion between prospec-tive, new and/or established business owners; audience members/attendees have included business owners, community leaders, resi-dents and library patrons of all ages.

he commitment to business growth by the Mount Prospect Chamber of Commerce was also evident by participation for three years in the
Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) program. Two Mount Prospect businesses partnered with the program all three years:Robert Bosch Tool Corporation – Community Corporate PartnerAmerican Chartered Bank – Banking PartnerAs Champions for students and entrepreneurship,
their funding and support permitted the Mount Pros-pect Chamber of Commerce to host weekly business classes for three school years. Held as an after school enrichment ‘class’; the students were recruited from Prospect High School, Lincoln Middle School and River Trails Middle School. Students were encouraged to think out of the box, and led by Katie Dolan Dix, owner/operator of Capannari Ice Cream – as in-structor for the YEA! program – came up with ‘ideas’ for their own businesses. During the school weekly meetings, with direction and support from Dix and Chamber sta , the students were given the tools and opportunity to begin the program as students and end the year as CEOs of their company. With instructor, program manager and mentors, students wrote business plans, prepared budgets and projections, created product templates, worked with graphic designers, did research and data compilations, learned marketing and branding and got out into the real world to make the business a reality. Experiences including ‘pitching’ to investors with a power point presenta-tion at an Investor Panel Event for dollar awards to launch their businesses;
Trade Show opportunities at Costco Wholesale, Wood eld Mall and a local Farmer’s Market. e success of the program was attributed to the list of sponsors, volunteers, advocates, mentors, guest speakers, eld trip hosts – all representing the Mount Prospect business community.

“YEA provided a great opportunity for students to get exposure to entrepreneurship,” said Chuck Martin, Culver’s Mount Prospect and Arlington Heights franchise owner and
mentor/ eld trip host and YEA! supporter for three years. “ e program provided invaluable
experience; I was surprised at how much work the students were willing to do to get their businesses going. e process is more important than the product itself because
success is something that comes after a number of failures. Even if this business fails, they will have learned a whole lot during the process.”
“I’m so impressed that this program continues to educate and empower our students to go beyond their dreams and that our business community
has so generously agreed to serve as mentors for the next generation, “ stated
Mayor Arlene Juracek who congratulated students at their

program manager for three years,“ ough we are not continuing
with the YEA! program in 2016, we are working hard with all ongoing programs and services to educate and encourage those interested in starting their own
businesses – no matter the age of the entrepreneur ... this is an exciting
time for business launch and growth in the Mount Prospect community.”
Katie Dolan Dix originally signed up year one, as volunteer for the rst 10-week session, a
third of the calendar year. When the program ended
in spring of 2015, Dix had completed all three sessions of
all three years – a testament to her commitment to budding entrepreneurs. She shared, “I was particularly interested in infusing the entrepreneurial
spirit in young people”.

Economic Development conomic development is a key priority for Mount Prospect – and with good reason. In order to maintain a vibrant community with citizens who are well-
served by a thriving local economy, community leaders must make a concerted e ort to attract and welcome new businesses and to support the success of current businesses.
Mount Prospect is a bustling 10-square-mile suburb which boasts a healthy retail and professional community, a thriving retail and restaurant lifestyle center and major employers like CVS Caremark, Bosch Tool and Cum-mins-Allison, according to Bill Cooney, Community Development Director.
e Village bene ts from its location which is only a few minutes north of O’Hare International Airport. In addition, residents, visitors and employees of local rms all bene t from easy access to both I-90 and I-294 and from the fact that there is a commuter rail station in the center of town.
As the national economy has gradually improved over the past two years, increased inquiries from parties interested in bringing new businesses to Mount Prospect or expanding existing businesses have kept Cooney and his sta busy.
“Our biggest areas of opportunity for new retail and restaurants, cur-rently, are Randhurst Village, the Mitchell Buick property on Rand Road, Central Plaza at Route 83 and Central Road and Golf Plaza II at Route 83 and Golf Road,” Cooney said.
Randhurst Village shopping center has been a hotbed of activity. Its new owner, DLC Management Corp. of Tarrytown, New York, is enthusiasti-cally moving forward with plans to attract more retailers to the center and is considering additional development, including the possible demolition of the Chase Bank building at the corner of Route 83 and Euclid Avenue and the development of more outlots.
Outback Steak House is expected to open later this year on the site of the former Border’s Books and Papa Saverio’s Pizza has been approved to take over the space of Tony Sacco’s Pizza by late 2015 or early 2016.
e recent openings of Smokey Bones Bar and Fire Grill and Truco Taqueria and Margarita Bar have added to the already festive air of the spaces immediately surrounding the AMC eater.
e former Mitchell Buick/GMC dealership property along Rand Road is also receiving serious consideration from restaurateurs including Texas Road-house Grill and several others that have been “shopping various locations up
and down Rand Road” in that general vicinity, according to Cooney.Elsewhere, Central Plaza was an empty, dilapidated strip center near the
center of the community that dated from the 1960s. It was demolished in September and is currently undergoing an environmental clean-up. Once that is complete, a lien will be placed on the property for the cost of that work and the property will go through foreclosure and a subsequent auction. If the Village wins at auction, Cooney said, they will be able to sell the land to a developer. If someone else wins, the Village will get their investment back and will then be able to work with the new owner on a plan for the property’s future, which Cooney hopes will be a mixed-use with retail on the rst oor and residential above.
Further south, at Golf Plaza II, the Village is anxious to work with the owner in order to achieve full occupancy through property improvement or redevelopment, according to Cooney. ey hope to see the former Dominick’s space lled in the near future, but “the intent of the owner for that plaza’s future is not yet clear.”
Scattered throughout the Village are many other recent victories for the community.

Economic Development(cont.) e former Black Cow restaurant, located at Busse and Golf roads,
re-opened as Draft Picks last spring and its sport bar facilities are drawing big crowds.
e Ye Olde Town Inn building in the downtown area is under contract to a new owner who will open “Tokens and Tankards,” a “gastrocade” com-bining food, drink and arcade games, this fall. e neighboring Blues Bar property is also expected to re-open under new ownership by the holidays.
Now that the economy has improved, Cooney hopes to see some inter-est in Village-owned property to the west of Ye Olde Town Inn and also in the vacant triangular-shaped property across Busse Avenue. Development of that parcel would be complicated by its shape and by the fact that multi-ple owners are involved, Cooney admitted.
e former Jake’s Pizza on Northwest Highway is undergoing a massive renovation. e 1960s-era structure is being gutted and will soon open as Trezeros Kitchen + Tap. It is owned by Pasquale Ergastolo, a well-known local restaurateur.
Just down the road from that, on the old Tri-State Electronics property, an 11,000-square-foot retail property is expected to open by the summer of 2016. It will feature smaller retailers, as well as a Dunkin’ Donuts with a drive-through.
e property along Route 83 which once held the historic and iconic Tudor-style Busse Building before it burned in early 2014 has been pur-chased by Norwood Builders. While no plans have yet been submitted, Cooney said he expects them to request permission to build two buildings featuring retail and restaurant space. Parking considerations will probably prevent them from building residential properties above, Cooney said.
Two Mattress Firm stores are soon coming to the Rand Road corridor. e triangular island at the intersection of Rand, Central and Mount Prospect roads will become the home to one of the stores while the former Shell gas station at Rand and Kensington roads near Randhurst Village will boast the other.
Up the road, McDonald’s will be moving across the street into the for-mer Baker’s Square site early in 2016 and the site of the existing McDon-ald’s is already under contract to a local developer who is hoping to attract two restaurants to the site.
As for the former LA Fitness facility next to O ce Max and Fresh yme Farmer’s Market, media rumors indicate that it will probably be leased by Crunch Fitness, a New York City-based venture which is known for unique o erings like Hip-Hop Aerobics, Co-Ed Action Wrestling and Cyked Yoga Cycling.
Further southeast on Rand Road, Menard’s is in the midst of the third
phase of its four-phase expansion and rehabilitation. Construction on the road itself, complete with installation of new sewer pipes, is complete so the Village is now conducting a tra c study of the community’s Rand Road corridor.
e Village welcomed ve new tenants into Kensington Business Center over the past year and in a continuing e ort to market the Center, it has spruced up the area with upgraded walking, jogging and biking trails and has seen to the removal of over 300 dead trees, many of which were located on private property.
“We o ered our tree contractor pricing to the property owners and many of them took advantage of the opportunity to remove trees killed by the Emerald Ash borer and other issues,” Cooney explained.
He is also enthusiastic about increased opportunities for industrial and o ce investment in the area around the expanded I-90 interchange at Elmhurst Road. Cooney said that easier access to communities to the west, via the tollway, will make properties in the area much more viable than they were before construction on the enhanced interchange was announced.
Housing in the Village has also gotten a boost. e Mount Prospect Horizon senior housing facility opened near the
intersection of Wolf and Kensington roads this spring. It is fully occupied and has a long waiting list, indicating a high demand for this type of facility in Mount Prospect. Developing similar facilities elsewhere in the community remains a priority for Cooney and the Community Development sta .
In addition, David Wheatley Homes has submitted a plan to build 14 row houses on an acre of vacant property on Elmhurst Avenue, immediate-ly north of the Post O ce and south of St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery.
e Village is also in discussions with Parenti and Ra aelli about their industrial property along Prospect Avenue. ey are considering relocat-ing because of $1 million in improvements that need to be made to their property. If they choose to relocate, the Village’s master plan calls for that property to be zoned for a mid-rise residential building, Cooney said.
Finally, in response to the increasingly strong rental housing market, over 1,000 of the Village’s 5,000 apartments units have been recently pur-chased by investment groups. e new owners have pledged $14 million in upgrades over the next four years.
“ is is a positive trend for the Village because these units, most of which were built on the south end of town during the 1960s and 1970s, needed rehabbing and upgrades. e new owners were interested in mak-ing the investment because, by today’s standards, these units are very large and should command a good rental price,” Cooney explained.

ount Prospect has become somewhat of a restaurant magnet in recent years. So, in order to highlight the Village’s many
gastronomical choices, MPTV has been working with the Chamber and the Community Development Department to produce a restaurant show in the tradition of WTTW’s “Check, Please.”
“Dish’n Out Mount Prospect,” as the program is called, even features a professional interviewer, Lisa Wolf of WGN and WIND radio, as its on-air personality. “Dish’n Out MP” is cablecast on MPTV Channel 17 at 6 and 10 p.m. nightly. For those who don’t have cable, the programs will be viewable on the “Experience Mount Prospect” website (www.experience-mountprospect.org) as video-on-demand.
“In a world where bland corporate food establishments have dominated the restaurant scene, I am especially interested in exploring the small mom and pop eating establishments with unique menus and outstanding food.” said Howard Kleinstein, executive producer.
“Many people drive past wonderful restaurants without ever stopping in. We hope this show will allow residents and non-residents a peek inside and give them a reason to patronize a new dining spot.” said Nellie Beckner, senior planner in the Village’s Community Development Department.
“We will highlight three restaurants in each half-hour show and hope to produce six shows in the rst six months. at will allow us to highlight 18 di erent restaurants,” explained Beckner.
“We made up a list of restaurants located all over the Village, weeding out the fast-food chains, and came up with 69 potential restaurants to fea-
ture,” she said. “ en we separated them into regions – northern, central and southern – and did a blind drawing, choosing three from the north, three from the south and three from the center of town. ose were the rst nine restaurants we approached.”
Most were very positive about the prospect of being featured in a six-minute television segment, at no cost to them. Only a few declined, according to Beckner.
Each segment of “Dish’n Out Mount Prospect” features one restaurant from each of the three regions within Mount Prospect. e MPTV team sits down with the owners/managers of each restaurant for a half-hour in-terview, which is later edited down and integrated with footage they shoot later during a busy time in the restaurant so that viewers can get a feel for each dining spot’s ambiance.
ose restaurants that were not featured during the rst season will get preference the next time that segments are shot, Beckner stated. “We want to try to cover everyone.”
“I am so excited that through this program we are going to be able to sing the praises of our excellent and diverse restaurant o erings,” said Dawn Fletcher Collins, executive director of the Mount Prospect Chamber of Commerce. “I really expect Dish’n Out to add to the excitement of the Mount Prospect restaurant scene.”
“Dish’n Out Mount Prospect” is a collaborative e ort between the Village’s Community Development Department, the Public Information Division, and the Television Services Division.

Networking Groups eveloping relationships that, in turn, generate business opportunities is at the heart of most Chambers of Commerce’s mission statements.Attending meetings, after hours and even golf outings is a proven way of
meeting the printer down the street, the banker across town and the insur-ance broker around the corner. In many cases, those encounters translate to business for them and reliable vendors and professionals for you, strength-ening the local business community.
In fact, many businesspeople argue that because business networking is a low-cost activity that involves more personal commitment than company money, it is a more cost-e ective method of generating new business than advertising or even public relations e orts.
In additional to monthly networking breakfasts and after-hours events, the Mount Prospect Chamber of Commerce currently has three active networking groups that meet on a regular basis.
e Sales Network Group, facilitated by Russ Peters of Mobile Print, meets from 7:45 to 9 a.m. each Wednesday. ey meet at a di erent local restaurant the rst Wednesday of each month and on the other Wednes-days they meet at Village Bank and Trust, 320 E. Northwest Highway.
“We currently have eight members and have been meeting weekly for about three decades,” Peters explained. “We follow a general format of trad-ing leads and sharing resources. en, we rotate between members, allowing each of them to have half an hour to bring us up to date on something with-in their scope of business. For instance, our insurance agent member might talk to us about new things happening in the insurance business.”
“We have found that we feel much more comfortable referring our
clients, friends and even rel-atives to someone we know, so that is the net- working piece, and we also enjoy bouncing ideas o of one another,” he continued.
e group only allows one purveyor of each service so that members don’t end up competing for referrals. erefore, there is one banker, one nancial services person, one contrac-tor, one attorney and so forth.
“We are happy to grow and add people to our group so prospective members are encouraged to visit a meeting,” Peters said.
e Professional Women’s Group has been meeting around Mount Pros-pect for more than a decade. Led by Susan Dozier of American Chartered Bank, the group currently meets from noon to 1 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month, generally at the Mount Prospect Public Library, 10 S. Emerson St., but occasionally elsewhere.
“We encourage members to bring their lunch and eat while we talk,” Dozier explained.
“Most meetings begin with 10 to 15 minutes of round table announce-ments and then we generally have a speaker. Topics have included stock market updates, leadership and support, women’s health issues, updates from Spring eld and community news,” she said.

Elected o cials Mayor Arlene Juracek and State Representative Elaine Nekritz have participated in the group.
“Our aim is to support women within the community live better lives, pro-fessionally and personally” Dozier explained, “so we have also taken ‘ eld trips’ to the Mount Prospect Historical Society and the Mt. Prospect Park District art studio and have had speakers from new businesses like the Wildbird Shack.”
“It is a welcoming group and we would love to grow. Women who are interested should feel free to bring their lunch and join us,” she added.
Power Net is a business forum which meets from 7:50 to 9 a.m., the rst and third ursdays of each month. One meeting is held at a local restau-rant and the other is held at American Chartered Bank, 111 E. Rand Rd.
According to members, the group has been meeting for many years and started out as a hard-core business referral group but eventually evolved into a business forum where they exchange information and advice. Marketing and promoting their businesses has become an outgrowth of the group.
Power Net rotates between members, talking about their businesses and educating each other about what is happening. ey also help each other solve problems and sometimes bring in outside speakers who highlight a business that could be helpful or of interest to members.
Power Net also tries to prevent member competition by limiting mem-bership to one person in each occupation. ey currently have a banker, a realtor, a home inspector, a roofer, an attorney, an investment advisor, a certi ed public accountant and a health supplement retailer.
Members say that being in the group keeps them in touch with what is going on in the community because it has so many prominent members who can provide real information, not neighborhood gossip. ey often use their connections in the group as referrals for their clients and often receive business in return.
e tradition of holding a monthly Chamber Networking Meal was recently resurrected after a long absence, o ering a new networking opportunity at the start of the day to Chamber members. e recent recession had driven a stake in the earlier tradition of holding networking luncheons, according to Dawn Fletcher Collins, executive director of the Mount Prospect Chamber of Commerce.
irty-three members of the local business community attended the inaugural First Wednesdays Chamber Business Breakfast which was held August 5 at Emerson’s Ale House, 113 S. Emerson St.. Reservations were required and walk-ins were not permitted.
e breakfast is designed to allow plenty of time for meeting others and networking. e doors open at 7:45 a.m. Breakfast is served at 8:15 a.m. and a Village sta member is scheduled to spend 10 minutes updating those present on some aspect of Village business at each meeting. Attend-ees are out the door by 8:50 a.m., Chamber members only.
“ e cost is $15 per person, including tax and tip. e food has been deli-cious, service and experience awesome. We have had both new and estab-lished Chamber members attend and that has been wonderful,” Collins said.

Park Districts he recreational needs of the residents of Mount Prospect are served by ve di erent park districts, depending upon where one lives within the Village. e majority of residents are split between the two primary districts,
both of which celebrated major anniversaries during 2015. e Mt. Prospect Park District serves 17,755 households within the Village while the River Trails Park District serves 4,639 Mount Prospect households. Together, they cover 92.5 percent of the Village.
e Mt. Prospect Park District was founded in 1955 and the River Trails Park District was founded a decade later, in 1965.
Over the years, both districts continually grew and o ered more and more facilities and programs to their residents.
At the Mt. Prospect Park District, highlights included the opening of Lions Park pool in August, 1956; the purchase of the Mt. Prospect Country Club in 1961; the opening of Kopp Park and pool in 1966; the consolidation of the Mt. Prospect Park District and the Prospect Meadows Park District in 1975; the leasing agreement for Metro Majewski Athletic Complex in 1981; the conversion of Lions Park pool into Big Surf Wave Pool in 1984; the opening of Friendship Park Conservatory in 1988; the opening of RecPlex in 1991; and the opening of the Central Community Center with its inline skating rink in 2001.
At the north end of town the River Trails Park District was equally busy. eir meteoric growth was highlighted by the approval of an $850,000 bond which allowed them to buy ve parks in 1966; the commencement of programming like square dancing, arts and crafts, folk guitar lessons, basketball and volleyball originally held at the District 26 schools and at Grace Lutheran Church; the construction of administrative o ces at Burn-ing Bush Park in 1969; the opening of Woodland Trails pool in 1970; the annexation of the Tamarack, Aspen Trails and Burning Bush subdivisions into the park district in 1971; the construction of the Weiss Community Center in 1987; and the purchase of Rob Roy Golf Course in 1989.
In order to ensure that residents and other participants take full advan-tage of each district’s parks and other facilities, sta and board members
are studying their facilities and evaluating how they are responding to the constantly evolving needs of the community.
Facilities that may have thrilled the Mount Prospect residents of the 1980s may no longer be satisfying the needs of today’s residents. It is important that park district o cials continue to re-evaluate how they are using their facilities.
e Mt. Prospect Park District, for instance, recently re-opened its Mt. Prospect Golf Club golf course after an $8.6 million renovation that had it closed for over 13 months.
“We have returned the course to more of its true essence and original con guration,” explained Brian Taylor, director of recreation. “Over time the course had been altered with greens getting smaller and trees over taking a lot of the original design. All of the underground infrastructure was replaced and the top was regressed and enhanced to more of the classic design of an almost century old golf club.”
e driving range, putting green and chipping range have also been grouped together to encourage families and those new to golf to go out and practice.
Next on the list of renovations is the Big Surf Wave Pool. ey are

Park Districtscurrently conducting studies to determine the best future for the facility. Whatever is decided, Taylor expects that the rehabilitation work will be done during 2018.
In the meantime, the Mt. Prospect Park District is concentrating on becoming an even bigger part of the life of the Mount Prospect communi-ty. ey held their rst National Night Out at Lions Park in August and co-sponsored the return of a 5K race called the “5KBC” through Kensing-ton Business Center in September.
“Our mission is to have a positive impact on the community and add to the quality of life of residents from infancy to retirement through our pools, open spaces, well-established programming and workout and sports facilities,” Taylor stated.
e River Trails Park District plans to spend the next two years investing in the digital needs of its residents through the creation of a new, updated website with new, easier-to-use registration software, according to Chris-tine Powles, communications and marketing manager.
“We completed a community survey in 2013 that we will now use in our strategic planning for updating our parks and facilities,” she explained. “ is year we are budgeting and planning and then in 2016 through 2020 executing that plan which will include improving and updating our existing facilities.”
“In the late 2000s we saw the e ect of the recession. We kept up our standards and we are now nally at a point where we can start investing in new facilities and parks again through our Strategic Plan and Comprehen-sive Master Plan,” Powles said.
is year they are initiating the Trails Youth 2K Challenge at Woodland Trails Park in October. Children, ages seven to 14, will be invited to participate in a 2K race over natural and manmade obstacles. Another popular recreation
program that continues to grow at the Rob Roy Golf Course is the adult Southside Bean Bags League. is past year there were over 40 participants.
“ e people who began this park district saw the need for recreation and preserving land for parks. It’s what makes this Park District still unique and relevant today,” Powles explained. “ ey saw recreation as a necessity of life and wanted to provide it to the people of the area.”
“ e mission of the River Trails Park District is to enrich the lives of our diverse community by providing quality parks, facilities and programs for recreation, education and wellness,” she added.
