This is the fourth newsletter for the Moyie and area planning process.
The goal of the planning process is to replace the current Moyie & Area Land Use Bylaw with a Moyie and Area Official Community Plan (OCP). The planning process will also consolidate the land use bylaw with the existing Cranbrook Rural Zoning Bylaw to create one zoning bylaw for the southern portion of Electoral Area C.

Narrows Meeting & SurveyOver 150 people attended the meeting, which began with a presentation from RDEK staff who provided background on the Moyie and Area Official Community Plan consultation process, followed by Mike Knapik, R.P. Bio with Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations. Mike presented information regarding the Species at Risk within the Narrows. A survey was available at the meeting as well as on-line. We received 41 responses. The results are summarized below:
Next StepsIf there are no major revisions to the bylaws necessary, the bylaws will enter the formal bylaw adoption process which includes referrals to various agencies such as Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations, Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, Agricultural Land Commission and Ktunaxa Nation Council.
A public hearing will be scheduled and chaired by the Area C Director to hear comments in support of, or opposition to, the proposed bylaws.
The public hearing notice will be available on www.rdek.bc.ca on the Public Hearings / Meetings Page. It will also be advertised in the East Kootenay Extra and in the Public Hearings Section on E-Know (www.e-know.ca). In addition, public hearings are included on the Board Highlights each month. Highlights are posted on the website and emailed to everyone who has signed up for the RDEK Email Group.
