Message from the Headmaster

As I write this, there is a tangible tingle of excitement running around our school. It is the first

week of December. Advent calendars are being opened, Christmas trees and decorations

are popping up all over the school and there is the faint sound of Christmas songs

emanating from every classroom. Our Christmas festivities have also been in full swing this

week, starting with the fabulous Christingle service at Ellingham Church on Monday. We

have spent a great deal of time at school discussing Christmas traditions and the different

ways that Christmas is celebrated around the world, but I can’t believe there is anything

more ‘Christmassy’ than the sight of our young pupils cherishing their Christingles within the

beautiful and magical surroundings of Ellingham Church. What a wonderful moment.

Tonight, our older Juniors will be taking center stage with their Christmas production, which

promises to be a thoroughly entertaining take on the traditional story. We then have our

Nativity play performed by the Pre-School to Year Two pupils on Monday and our Christmas

lunch on Tuesday. The children are invited to wear their favourite Christmas jumper or

anything else that adds a bit of sparkle to their uniform on this day. We then end our

festivities with our annual Carol Concert at St. Peter’s Church in Ringwood on Friday. As

Thomas Tusser said, ‘Christmas comes but once a year’, so we are certainly doing our

utmost to enjoy it and ‘make good cheer’.

Wishing you all a wonderfully festive weekend,

Richard Milner-Smith

The Moyles Court School ‘Word of the Week’

Next week’s ‘Word of the Week’ is ‘Inert’ suggested by Hattie in Year 8.

‘Inert’: – ‘adjective – lacking the ability or strength to move’

.

We would be very grateful if you could use the word ‘Inert’ as much as possible in your conversations at home over the coming week to try and familiarise your children with the meaning and spelling of our ‘Word of the Week’.

Focus of the week

The Junior School were treated to a special assembly this week as Mrs. Anne Adams came to visit the school. Anne has been teaching the Bible Explorer lessons to Year 5 and 6 over the last few weeks and the assembly was used as an opportunity for the pupils to share some of the wonderful work that they have been doing. We even had the chance to involve the rest of the Juniors, who learned various new actions and hand-movements to accompany some of the stories. It was wonderful to see the Juniors come together to learn a song and story as one collective unit. It therefore seems very appropriate that their focus for this week is to "work together to do wonderful things". Well done Juniors for this week and thank you once again to Anne for visiting our school!

Music Bugs

Pre-School and Reception had a wonderful Music Bugs taster session today which was thoroughly enjoyed by all! These sessions will be run on a Friday at 11am, starting after the Christmas holidays and are open to all Early Years children and younger siblings. If you have any queries please do contact Miss Christopher.

Our First term in Year Four Sienna said “Life in Year 4 is amazing because all of the lessons are fun, challenging and enjoyable. I really like Art and we have been looking at Pointillism, Impressionism and Renaissance styles.” Harvey said “I’ve enjoyed year 4 because of the things I’ve discovered. I’ve really liked learning about climate zones, making it rain indoors in our Science lesson and every lesson is explained well.” Tom said “I have made quite a lot of friends along the way. My favourite lesson is DT and at the moment we are making spitfires. Science has been interesting too. We have learnt two water cycle raps. I also like Outdoor Learning and we do something new every day. So, Year 4 is good.” Monty Said “I like Maths because it helps me with my numbers, and I even like English. I like Science because I have learnt some new things that I haven’t heard before and I like PE because you get fit and healthy.” Maggie said “Mr. Hutchings always plans great lessons. In Topic we are doing Europe, it’s very interesting. We always have great lessons and games in Outdoor Learning too. Everyone is learning lots in Year 4.” Ollie said “My favourite lessons are Science, ICT and DT. My favourite part of English was when we were doing our ‘How to train your dragon stories’. My favourite bit of Science has been looking at the different states of matter.” Olivia said “In English we have been writing our own Horrid Henry stories and in Maths we have been doing fractions. It is fun!” Bella said “I like Year 4 because the lessons are good and exciting. My top 1 favourite lesson was when we did bar graphs with Smarties. I also like making a presentation in Science about solids, liquids and gases.” Leila said “I like all of my lessons but if I had to choose one it would be Art because I really like learning the different styles of Europe.” James said “I really liked our Outdoor Learning lesson where we have the collection challenge. We do a lot of exciting lessons, but my favourite is Science because we do lots of new fun things like building buzz wire games. My best lesson is Maths.” Lucas said “In Year 4 we have been doing lots of amazing things. My personal favourite bit is our Outdoor Learning.” Ellis said “I love Year 4 and I really like Science, Outdoor Learning, PE and Topic.” Penny said “In Year 4 Art we have been doing some pointillism with Mr. Hutchings. We have painted outside and in and with a bit of help we have picked the style up quickly and now all of our pieces look stunning.” Aaron said “At the moment in Year 4 we are doing fractions in Maths and ‘Horrid Henry’ in Literacy. I have really enjoyed our Europe topic and my highlight of the year so far is super manhunt in Outdoor Learning.” Roman said “I love doing my Maths and learning new things and I have also enjoyed Outdoor Learning and PSHE as well.” Jack said “Year 4 has been fun so far and we have been doing lots of cool stuff. In Science we have been drawing the water cycle and investigating to see if gas is real or not. We have also been doing equivalent fractions, looking at information texts and drawing spitfires.”

Year 10 English

Year 10 English Literature have been starting to feel a lot like Christmas and less like the ‘Bah’...’Humbugs’ they can sometimes be at this busy time! They have been studying ‘A Christmas Carol’ in the run up to Christmas and are really beginning to think about the true meaning of Christmas and they’d like to say in the words of Charles Dickens ‘A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year’ to you all!

Year 11 Maths

Year 11 have been studying probability and tackled the following question from brilliant.org Ollie got it right. Can you? The dragon Smaug says he will set you free if you roll a 7 or higher. If you intend to survive, which would you rather roll: Two 10-sided dice (your score is the sum) or one 20-sided die? Facts: 1) The 10-sided dice are fair with sides numbered 0 to 9. 2) The 20-sided die is fair with sides numbered 1 to 20.

MFL News

Year 6 pupils have been creating their own bilingual presentations about everything they have covered in the Autumn Term. They demonstrated some great acting skills and spoke in Spanish with confidence and enthusiasm. Some of our older Year 10 and Year11 linguists have been getting into the Christmas spirit with Jingle Bells in French “Vive Le vent” and Silent Night in Spanish “Noche de Paz”. We are proud to say that the Year 11 Spanish speaking mocks went well this week. We thank Clara and Emelia for all their linguistic support in the MFL department and bringing their authentic, cultural expertise from Spain and Ecuador to our classrooms. The French play from Onatti Productions has been postponed until next year due to lack of interest and a very busy schedule of events this year, but we will keep you posted about future productions. ¡Feliz Navidad! Bonne année!

Moyles Court Foals

It has only taken a few weeks for Cybele (bay) to be happy to have a head collar taken on

and off and be led around the field. She is slowly becoming more trusting and used to

human contact. However, Miss Darcy (grey) has other plans and is still not so keen! She

will tolerate human contact, but is extremely sharp and I have not quite gained her trust

sufficiently, but time and patience will prevail.

I am hoping to have them able to be easily handled and travelled to visit the pupils of Moyles

Court in the Spring, before they are released onto the Forest.

I am Very excited for you to meet them.

Sports Reports

U7s Football vs. FSM

Wednesday saw the first ever U7 football game against FSM. This was a fantastic away fixture and the team were in very high spirits with the prospect of representing the school. The team was made up of a mixture of Years One and Two boys and girls. On arrival we warmed up and practiced ready for kick off, working on our passing and dribbling. The games were very competitive and saw both teams create chances and put in 1000% effort. The were some fantastic efforts from Samuel and Maximus. Special mention should be made to Coco for a fantastic work rate and outstanding effort in midfield. After the games the children indulged in some lovely pizza and juice to replenish their energy. All members of the team had a fantastic afternoon full of fun and very good sportsmanship. A special thank you must go to Mr. Fox for demonstrating his fantastic coaching prowess, helping both teams progress. The team set a fantastic bench mark to build on and we learnt a lot from this fantastic experience. Many more to come! Well done team!

Mr. Legg.

U9s Rugby vs. Ballard

This week we were in a New Forest derby against Ballard in what was very testing wet conditions, but perfect weather for a fine afternoon of rugby. Moyles Court held the home turf advantage which on previous meetings has been a well-balanced fixture, today was no exception. The team this week consisted of a mixture of Years 3 and 4 boys who have all played in previous fixtures. The team looked to build on the fantastic performance seen last week and have looked dangerous on the training ground. The game was split in two with different Moyles teams playing the same Ballard team. The first half opened off which saw some fantastic runs from all players of the team. Special mentions should go to Lucas for some amazing tag takes and Monty for some dazzling runs down the lines. We finished the first half with a 6-4 advantage. The second half held with a complete personnel change apart from the captain (Ellis), who showed fantastic leadership throughout organising the team but, also leading from the front. The second half again dazzled a rather damp crowd with some fantastic tags from Tom and Noah as well as some amazing runs from Aaron. The game finished 10-9 to Moyles sealing the team’s first win early on in the season. The team showed fantastic grit and determination to seal a tough win. They passed, tagged and closed down as a unit making it hard for Ballard to score. The season promises to be fantastic with such a vast range of talent in a fantastic group. Well done team!! From Mr. Legg and Mr. Crist.

Moyles Court School Under 11s vs. Ballard and Forres Sandle Manor

Team list: Charlie, Lincoln, Toby, Evan, Jack, Tom, Harrison, Caleb, Samuel, Jago, Bradley, William Moyles Court School took part in not just one, but two fixtures on Wednesday afternoon. On a very damp, drizzly and dark afternoon, Ballard and FSM visited Moyles Court School to participate in two games of contact rugby.

Moyles Court vs. Ballard Moyles Court started off very well versus Ballard, with Lincoln showing off his feisty side with a number of early tough tackles. William and Harrison took some inspiration from this and followed up with some excellent hustling and tackling of their own. Charlie led the team well and gave out a series of fantastic commands to push the team forward whenever they had possession of the ball. Ballard grew into the game and were able to score the first try. As the rain continued to pour heavily onto the field, the tackles continued to fly in from both sides, with both sets of players drenched before a time-out was called, giving the boys a chance to receive some coaching advice. Toby put in a very solid performance and attempted to show off some fine passing, ably supported by Evan on the flanks. However, it was Ballard who were able to score the next try against the run of play. Moyles Court continued to play well and were desperately unlucky not to get the breaks that they deserved. Ballard managed to score a third try. As Moyles Court pushed for a try of their own, Ballard were able to win the ball and scored with just seconds remaining. Moyles Court were not disheartened at all during the game and kept their spirits high throughout in what was their first competitive rugby fixture of this term. Final score:Moyles Court 0 - 4 Ballard Man of the Match: Lincoln. For beautiful tackling and didn't give the Ballard boys a moment's rest. Unlucky not to get onto the scoresheet.

Moyles Court vs. FSM Moyles Court finished their match versus Ballard and went immediately into the next game vs. FSM. The boys were buoyant and confident going into this game, despite the score in the previous game. Again, Lincoln set the tone with some brilliant tackling, once again supported by Harrison and Jack. However, it was Bradley who was the star of this match, who refused to let FSM settle. An outstanding and tireless display from him led to the first try of the game being scored by Evan, after some brilliant support play and quick passing from Caleb and Charlie. FSM began to find a foothold in the game and forced Moyles Court back into their own half. However, Moyles Court were just too quick. Some slick passing between Charlie, Samuel and Lincoln led to Lincoln storming ahead, virtually running half the length of the pitch to secure his try and a well-deserved reward for his hard work this afternoon. Samuel was keen to out-do his team-mate and perhaps scored the best try of the day, running an even greater distance and sliding emphatically over the line! The Moyles Court players could hardly believe their eyes and were quick to congratulate him! Moyles Court were now buzzing with confidence and continued to force FSM into errors. The ball was being passed around with precision, speed and accuracy, with Charlie and Bradley at the heart of it all. The ball was moved quickly to Samuel, who scored his second try of the afternoon and the final try of the game. FSM battled hard and were unlucky not to get on the scoresheet. By the time the whistle had been blown, both sets of players were layered in mud, sweat and soaked with rainwater. A fantastic afternoon. Final score: Moyles Court 4 - 0 FSM Man of the Match: Bradley. An absolute terrier on the field who certainly made an impression on the FSM players!
