Mrs George reports, “This week at Nursery we have welcomed back all of our
children into our new setting. They have all very much enjoyed exploring the
new environment, all the new resources as well as having the shared area where
they can see and catch up with old friends!”

Welcome to the first ‘proper’ newsletter of the school year! We may only have had
the children in school for a week and a half but much has happened already! Years 1-6
have all enjoyed their ‘Hook Days’ to launch their first topics, Reception class have
started school and Y6 have completed their transition tests with admirable resilience!

Miss Rodwell says, “Year 4's week
kicked off with their Lights, Camera,
Action hook day. We first made shadow
puppets with our hands and discussed
how shadows are made. Then we
explored the Oscars and made our own
Oscar statues to present to each other.
In the afternoon we took a journey
through the history of film and watched
lots of interesting videos to help us
understand how film has changed over
time! In English this week, we delved
into play scripts and spent lots of time
understanding what they are for and all
the features. In maths, we've worked
extremely hard to understand Roman
Numerals and we've also been
recapping our knowledge of time!
Science this week has been all about
Thomas Edison and his amazing
inventions, or improvements as we like
to call them! Well done Year 4! A busy
week!”
Miss Anderson and Miss Nix report, “It
has been a fantastic week in Year Three!
Hook day on Monday saw us introducing
our brand new topic: Lights, Camera,
Action. The children were shown the very
first animated film ever made. Us adults
thought it was very impressive... the
children did not! Work is well underway in
our English unit and we have been
working to read and perform scenes from
Fantastic Mr Fox. In maths, we have begun
our work on place value and in science we
have started to look at what life would be
like without electricity. We have been so
impressed with all the children's hard
working and enthusiastic attitudes - keep
it up Year Three!”
Miss Davies says, “Reception have been
having a super time exploring their new
setting and really enjoyed playing in our
new outside area. They have had a lovely
time singing songs and dancing and are
becoming more familiar with routines and
expectations. Well done Reception! A
wonderful start to the year!”

Mrs Hopkin and Mrs Bray report, “Year 2
have made an exceptional start to the
year! We are very proud of how well they
are adapting to their new classroom and
new routines. This week we launched our
topic of ‘Superheroes’ with a hook day. We
had great fun dressing up as
superheroes and making a moving
picture. The children were excited to
have a visit from both the fire service
and a police traffic officer. During these
visits, we learned about the equipment
that is on board the fire engine and why
it is important to wear cycle helmets.
The children were even allowed to sit
inside the emergency vehicles and listen
to the (very loud!) sirens! In DT we have
been researching superhero masks to
gather ideas for our own masks. In
maths we have been focusing on place
value, in particular writing numbers to
100 in numerals and words. We couldn’t
have asked for a better start to the year
- Well done Year Two!”
Mrs Snow says, “This week in Year One
the children have been working hard
on their understanding and retelling of
the story 'Supertato'. They have made
story maps and acted out different
characters. For maths the children
have been working on reading and
writing numbers.
During art, the children ‘took a line for
a walk' and in RE we talked about 'who
makes the rules and why should we
have them?' We had a great 'hook day'
and really enjoyed our visit from our
real life superheroes the Firefighters. It
has been a fantastic start to the new
school year. Well done Year One!”
Mrs Foster says, “It's been a busy and
bustling week and a half, as the class start
their time as the new Year 5. After
spending three days getting to know one
another and focusing on our class value of
respect, we've now begun our topic
Stargazers. We're currently learning about
the planets, and their links to
mythological gods, but we've also learnt
how to prove that the Earth is a spherical
planet (and not flat) even without
modern technology. In fact, Ancient Greek
scientists did this 2,500 years ago! Hook
Day was as fun and lively as ever, as Years
5 & 6 underwent physical and mental
astronaut training, learnt about life in
space (and tried astronaut food!), and
created some astronomical art work.”
Miss Henderson says, “This week in
Year 6 we have had an exciting time
learning about our new topic stargaz-
ers! Throughout this week we have
learned about the determined women
behind the moon landing, about the
planets in the solar system and about
the constellations in the sky! We even
had a go at painting them ourselves!”
