Policies and Procedures Hours

◦ 7:30-8:00am

◦ 8:00am-8:20am All students in Homeroom; Morning Announcements

◦ 8:20am-3:10pm

Must have a signed grid during class periods

◦ No printing between during class transitions. You must go

to class first and get a pass from your teacher.

◦ You should be in class for first and last 15 minutes; 15:15

Rule

Please sign in and sign out at circulation desk

◦ Your Name, Teacher’s Name, Purpose, Time In, Time Out

No food or drink in media center

Lunch Passes Limited number given out each day they are available

◦ First come, first serve

◦ Check sign at circulation desk to see if passes are available

Must get pass from Media Specialist before 4th period; get

passes during class transitions

◦ No students permitted during lunch without a pass from

Mrs. Moore or Mr. Nealy. Passes from teachers will not be

accepted during lunch.

Pass is only good for that day

◦ Report to cafeteria, and eat lunch there. No food or drink

in media center.

◦ When finished with lunch, bring your pass to media center

and sign in. You will stay in the media center until your

lunch period is over.

◦ Return to class when lunch period is over.

Checking Out/In Materials Bring your library card and items to the circulation desk to

checkout.

Permitted to checkout two books at a time

◦ Reading Ambassadors three books at a time

Checkouts are for two weeks. Check the sign at the

circulation desk for due dates.

Books can be renewed two times

◦ If someone places the book on hold, then it cannot be

renewed

◦ In order to renew a book, you must bring the book in

Books should be returned to the book drop at the

circulation desk

Overdues and Fines No daily fines for overdue books

Overdue notices will be given out to your homeroom

teacher at least once a month

You will not be able to checkout if you have overdue

books or outstanding fines. Overdue books and fines

must be reconciled before checking out other books

◦ Parents will be contacted if you have severely overdue books

If a book is damaged or lost, you will be charged the

replacement cost of the book

All materials must be turned in at the end of the

school year and fines must be paid

Please fill out the item request form and

turn in to media specialist

Try the public library if we don’t have

what you are looking for or download the

Open ebooks app

Proper Use of Technology

Computers are for academic/school work only

and should not be used for anything other than

school related purposes

Improper use will result in consequences,

disciplinary action, and may result in you losing

your ability to access computers at school

and/or criminal charges.

Must have signed Internet Agreement form to

use devices with Internet access

Computer Use

Computers contain Internet and Microsoft

Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)

Chromebooks only contain Internet Browser

Be sure to save your work (Flash drive)

Cost

Print preview before printing. Ask for

help!

Behavior & Expectations Use time wisely◦ Complete work and get back to class

◦ If you misbehave you will be sent back to class

Respect the media center◦ Clean up trash and materials, push in chairs

◦ Put books back in correct place or bring to circulation desk

◦ You are responsible for damage to books, computers, chairs, tables, etc.

◦ Treat library materials with the best of care, as they are used by everyone present and future

Respect others Media Center is a quiet, academic atmosphere

or offices

Search the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) to find

materials in our media center

Keyword, Title, Author, Subject, Series searches available

or Browse by genre

Once you find a book, explore the record to find out

more about it and if its available

Also have access to Brittannica online and other

databases through Destiny Discover

Can login to see what items are checked out to you,

due dates, etc.

Finding Books on Your Reading and

Interest Level Lexile= Reading Level

◦ Use the color coded chart to find books in your Lexile range

Interest Level

◦ MG=Middle grades interest level (Grades 4-8)

◦ UG=Upper grades interest level (Grades 9-12)

◦ Just because a book is on your reading level does not mean it is

appropriate for you to read.

Book Campaign August through May

Follow these guidelines to complete:

◦ Receive your reading passport and keep for entire year

◦ Select and read books within your Lexile range that fit

each category for that month.

◦ Complete a summary for each book you read.

◦ Submit your summaries to Mrs. Moore for review.

◦ Earn incentives and prizes for each month you read and

complete summaries.

◦ Complete each month’s passport for the entire school

year and earn even more!
