Dear Ms. Oglesby,

Further to your correspondence to me dated 27/07/2004. The mswers/reponses in this reply follow the same numerical sequence as your letter.

1. A letter is attached regarding planning pennission.

2. A 1 :2500 scale map (Map 1) showing the site boundary marked in red is attached.

3. The pig houses have automaticdly controlled ventilation systems that are fitted with fail safe mechanisms to protect pigs in the event of a power failure. In all houses (apart from the dry sow house) there are fans over the centre passageway, which pull the air in fhm the sides of the building. The dry sow house is ventilated by conlmllhg the air inlets - a natural {rather than mechanical) ventilation system.

The feeding system is a computerised wet feeding system that delivers the specified amount of feed to specified valves at specified times each day. Each valve delivers feed to a trough where the pig may access the feed. The feed system and each p u p of pigs are checked daily.

There is an eIeclric heating system in place in the farrowing moms and fllrst stage weaner house system supplies extra heat fur the piglets and weaners. All buildings are well insulated to reduce the heat loss from the building, to reduce the heat loss from the building to reduce

temperature fluctuations over short periods and ultimately to rcduce fuel costs.

4. A scaled Map (Map 2) is attached showing manure movement on-site. All underground m u r e storage tanks cfiannel sluice gates and extraction points are shown on this scaled site drawing. There is no overground manure storage tank on the site (this was an error in Attachment 1 8 of the initial application - see response No. 12).

All manure is contained under each individual building. No manure is sluiced fkom me building to another apart from the farrowing rooms and fmt stage weaners which are sluiced to the dry sow house. Each other underground manure store is independent. Manure is drawn out of each underground storage tank by customer farmm who utilise it to fertiliser their crops.

5, The direction of rainwater flow is shown on Map 2 attached. The roof water is directed to two so& pits as shown on the site plan. The areas between buildings (apart fiom passageways linking buildings) are not accessible to pigs. The rainwater Mlhg on these areas percolate naturally into the ground.

6. The feed mill is a separate legal entity. It trades as Tybroughney Milling Co. Lid, my correspondence relating to the activities of this company should be addressed to: The Secretary, Tybroughney Milling Co. Ltd, Tybroughey, Piltown, Co. Kilkenny.

7 . The Iandlill to which domestic waste is dispused of. The bring centre in Waterford is the centre which will cater for the spent fluorescent tubes.

8. The information in relation to each customer farmer has h e n presented to the Agency in the Application.

9. Written agreements as required arc attached to this response in Appendix A.

10. In the unlikely event of a Class A disease breakout the Minister for Agriculture and Food becomes the owner of the pigdcarcasses. How the site is managed in such an event is the sole responsibility of the Department of Agriculture and Foods Veterinary division, The Applicant has no function in discussions on this issue.

any problem with the water qudity from this source. Water quality has been assessed by laboratmy analysis. Please rind the results of this analysis attached in Appendix B.

12. There are no overground storage tanks witkin the site to be licensed, The sentence Attachment 1 8 is a mistake and should be deleted.

13. I beiieve that there is no significant impact of odours from site at any location outside the site. I reject any suggestion there m y be in your Question 13 that dwellings within 700 metres of the site might be impacted by odours from the site. 1 have no confidence in the documcnt refmeci to in your Question 13 and do not consider it to be particularly relevant to the site.

14. The information provided above does not alter the existing “Non Technical Summary” in any major way. It was not deemed necessary to alter the ‘Non Technically Summary” as a result of the information provided hove.
