This allows teachers to modify a course, add assessments, have students drop-box, assessments & assignments and more.Food for Thought: A way to offer regular and AP courses that are under enrolled in a school. One teacher can teach many students from different schools online. There is no time constraint since the course can be taught and taken at any time.

**First some background about OER:The term Open Educational Resources was first adopted at UNESCOs 2002 Forum on the Impact of Open Courseware for Higher Education in Developing Countries.Major funding for support of OER has come from The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. One of the OER project with which you may be familiar is Creative Commons.

**The NROC project has been listening to teachers and administrators.Curricular content- many general education subjectsComplete course content- including presentational material, assessments, teachers guides, problem sets, etc.Customizable- learning object architecture allows customizationCorrelated- to popular textbooks and state standardsTeaching tool- not just stuff, intended to achieve defined educational outcomes*As membership grows, so does the repository. We have been adding about one semester-length course each semester since the project has launched.

Most of the content has been contributed. The core from UCs AP project, others from members, including Chattanooga State. Spanish translations of science and math course are coming from CUDI, our partner in Mexico working with the University of Guadalajara.

We just added our first collaboratively developed project with Non-Majors Bio. Foundations werent interested in funding course development, so we developed a process with our members. This project was funded almost entirely by our supporting members with a generous contribution of academic talent from CCCOnline.

But there is hope for accelerating growth on the horizon. Hewlett has funded a new algebra 1 project with over a $1M investment. We have also heard that the expenditure guidelines in the stimulus package may advocate spending on the creation on new OER. The government likes the financial efficiencies in broadly sharing rich curriculum that may be adapted to meet local needs.
