Bibendum Challenge/Formulec EF01

The Bibendum challenge took place this year in Berlin

at the former Tempelhof airport. Organised by Miche-

lin, this event grouped all the new technologies in the

car sphere and more specically those devoted to

new propulsion energies.

Supported technically by Motul, the EF01, which is

the rst 100% electrically-propelled single-seater, un-

veiled its performances to the visitors to the show

during several test sessions. On a 700-metre-long

narrow and winding track, the EF01 was driven by

Alexandre Prmat, the French driver who will also

wear Motuls colours at the forthcoming 24 Hours of

Le Mans (Team Oreca Matmut LMP2).

Present alongside prestigious brands like Citron,

Peugeot, Venturi and Porsche, the EF01, the worlds

fastest electric single-seater, really distinguished

itself by its performances that genuinely promote

clean energies.

The next ofcial runs by the EF01 are expected to

take place in mid-June at the 24 Hours of Le Mans

(as part of the Le Mans vers le futur operation during

which cars of the future will perform parade laps) and

then in mid-July around the Kremlin at a road-show

that was ofcialised in the presence of Formulec

a few days ago in Moscow.

The EF01 steals the show!

Standings

It was already the fth round of the World Superbike

Championship last weekend on the fast Miller Motors-

ports Park track (Salt Lake City, USA).

After the ne podium at Monza three weeks ago,

Michel Fabrizio, the Italian rider of team Suzuki Als-

tare, for which Motul is a technical partner, was really

motivated to conrm his improved performances on

the GSX-T 1000 which he is getting to know better

and better.

The special climate of this valley in the heart of the Utah

mountains unfortunately dampened his enthusiasm.

With a qualifying day in the rain, Michel, who had very

little experience on his bike in these conditions, didnt

do better than fourth row of the grid.

The Italian rider was forced to launch a really strong

attack on each of his races on a dry track, which

brought emotions galore once more!

During race 1, he was violently hit by Ruben Xaus on

the 3rd lap. Defying the pain caused by his serious

fall, Michel entered race 2... without having taken any

painkillers!

A courageous decision, but which paid off since his

erce determination allowed him to climb to 5th place

this time.

Hungarian Drift /Mariapocs

After her 5th place in the overall standings of the

King of Europe Championship in 2009 and the 3rd

place she secured at the end of the Gymkhana in

Germany, Nikolett Sznt is no doubt Europes most

talented drifter.

Indeed, as a contender at the second round of the

Hungarian Drift Championship held in Mriapcs (a

very popular track among drifters), on 20 and 21 May,

the young Hungarian made the very most of the 450

hp of her impressive bike a BMW Z4 tted with a

BMW M5 engine!

Despite a few mechanical problems encountered du-

ring the tests on Saturday, Nikolett managed to qua-

lify in the Top 16, then won the Top 16 battle before

bowing out following a slight mistake in her Top 8

duel. Synonymous with an honourable 5th place, this

performance should not obscure the young drifters

fair-play : not for one second did she hesitate to lend

her car keys to Lakatos Zoli Laky (the rider who had

just beaten her) after the latter suffered a broken

engine a few minutes before the nal!

After the opening round in Saint Petersburg in March

(cf. MSN No.16), the second stage of the Stunt Battle

Russia, for which Motul is the ofcial partner, took pla-

ce at the beginning of May at Rostov-on-Don, a Rus-

sian town located a few kilometres from the Ukrainian

border.

Among the best Russian and East European riders

present, it was Yuri Verhovnikov (the latter clinched 3rd

place in the rst round) who won this second stage.

He did an incredible 35 metre long stoppie (the bike

is ridden on the front wheel) literally bowling over the

contenders and spectators alike!

French Offroad Endurance Championship

China Touring Car Championship/Zhuhai

Both Motul clients, Jean Franois Branger and Alain

Thibault participated at the beginning of May in the

6 Hours of Santerre, an event counting towards the

French Offroad Endurance Championship.

At the wheel of their all-new 4-wheel drive BMC pro-

totype tted with a 2-litre Honda engine and a six

speed sequential gearbox, both managed to over-

come a transponder problem and a faulty windscreen

wiper that refused to work (how useful it would have

been with kilos of mud splattering the windscreen!)

and nally moved up from 16th place to 2nd place

(taking the win in their category) following the six hour

race. The other good piece of news of the weekend

is Alain Thibault higher position now in the overall

standings: after taking part in only two rounds, he

now leads the overall standings by 11 points over hisclosest contender.

The second round of the China Touring

Car Championship (CTCC) was held

on 28 and 29 may at the international

Zhuhai track.

Competing in the 1600cc class, teams

Beijing Hyundai & Haima Family did Mo-

tul proud in the best of ways by securing

all three steps of the podium following a

superb race that was nally won master-

fully by Sun Zheng (team Haima Family).

The latter won just ahead of Liu Yang

and Cui Yue of team Beijing Hyundai.
