Mount Mabel Wind Energy Project: Project Profile
Site Conditions
Project location 25 km north of Merritt BC off Highway 5, Interior BC
Land ownership Crown Land
Land tenure Investigative Use Permit (IUP) and License of Occupation (LOO) applications held since
2012 for 5,000 hectares.
On-site
Measurements
One 60 m meteorological tower installed, 2 years of data collected since 2013. Elevation
of tower: 1,607 masl.
One 50 m meteorological tower on Mt. Guichon (10 km away), almost 7 years of data
collected since 2008. Elevation of tower: 1,730 masl.
Installable
Capacity
Capacity of approximately 15 MW based on Standing Offer Program Project Limitation.
The project has over 20 potential turbine sites with average wind speeds >7 m/s,1 for a
maximum feasible capacity of approximately 60 MW.
Interconnection Project area intersected by one 500 kV Transmission Line, one 130 kV Transmission Line,
and adjacent to one 25 kV Distribution Line.
Wind resource Annual wind speed of 5.76 m/s at 60 m measured at the met tower location.
Annual wind speeds of 7.5 – 8.1 m/s at 95 m hub height for potential turbine locations2.
Accessibility Highway 5 (Coquihalla Hwy) runs adjacent to the project area, with many good forestry
roads on-site.
