Music Magazine Draft

Front Cover This is a rough draft of the front cover of my music magazine. Here I have gone for a colour scheme consisting of red, black and white as these colours contrast well against one another while also suiting my target audience.

Masthead & Slogan MastheadThe masthead is titled “Unplugged”. This is to give the audience the idea that artists have ‘unplugged’ their instruments to be read about in the magazine. The masthead’s colour is white but with a defined black edge to ensure the masthead stands out.

SloganMy chosen slogan was “Sounds of a generation”. This was the most popular slogan from my questionnaire. The slogan gives the audience the idea that the bands and music written about inside the magazine are the most listened to artists in the present day.

Main ImageMain Image

The main image is a medium shot of the lead vocalist of the band who the main article inside the magazine is about. The shot gives the audience the idea of the bands style with the black clothing yet is looking away from the camera as it can raise a bit of mystery to what he is doing.

Sell LinesSell Lines

The sell lines appear on the left and right hand sides of the magazine as it allows the reader to have a glimpse at what else is inside the magazine without looking at the contents page. It also allows the reader to see what other bands will appear inside the magazine just in case the main article is not a band the reader is interested in. The black and red writing are to contrast with one another and allow the reader to see what is in the magazine without it looking uninteresting while allowing it to conform to conventional means.

SplashSplash

The splash is written in large letters to make it stand out and ensure it is one of the first things the reader sees when picking up the magazine. While doing my research I noticed that the artists name is the largest text on a front cover so I decided to do the same. The strap line is alliterated to ensure it will seem catchy and readers will remember it. I also used a pull quote “Doing our own thing” to give the reader the idea that the band from the main article will do original music as some artists do not to that in the modern music industry.

Footer The footer has black fill will white text to help it stand out amongst the traditional black and reed design. The footer also allows the reader to see it was “The greatest rock magazine in 2015” which will further encourage the reader to purchase the magazine as it suggests the content will be of great quality.

Contents Page This is the draft for my music magazine’s contents page. Here I have adopted for the same colour scheme of the front cover with red and black.

Layout

The layout for my contents page I adopted a conventional design, which is similar to Q with the main contents going down the left hand side of the page and the reviews on the bottom right hand side. This allows subsidiary images to on the top right of the page.

Page 9: Music Magazine draft

ContentsThe title “contents” is in white text with a black fill. Next to the contents I have the issue it is and the date the magazine would be released.

Features & Monthly For the contents page I have features for individual items, which will only take place in the specific issue and the monthly, which takes place in every issue. The features and the monthly headings are in a box with a red fill and white writing, which consists with the ongoing colour scheme. The text for the features and the monthly are black text with red numbers to help the numbers stand out.

Reviews The reviews section of the contents page covers the latest releases in the music world for the magazines targeted genre of music. The reviews don’t just consist of music related items but also films due to magazines these days needing to branch out to reach a higher circulation.

Additions Due to the magazine industry becoming a more multimedia-focused medium, a link to the magazines twitter page is put at the bottom so readers can follow the magazine on social media.

The Unplugged logo and page number are on the bottom right of the page and allows the reader to know which page they’re on and keep to conventional means.

Double Page Spread Layout

With the layout I have kept to conventional means when it comes to keeping the article in 3 columns. To fit the tone of the magazine I had the background of the article all black with white writing. The black background also fits with the black and white main image.

Page 15: Music Magazine draft

Main Image The main image consists with the style of the article with it being black and white. The main image is a close up on the band members faces and only takes up a quarter of the double page.
