MEET OUR GUEST ARTISTSSessions with Industry Professionals

Alta Dantzler has appeared as a concert soloist at Carnegie Hall, and with symphonies and opera companies across the country. She has appeared at Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center as the narrator in Peter and the Wolf and in the premiere of a new edition of Victor Herbert’s Babes in Toyland. Internationally, she toured Brazil as the alto soloist in a resurrection of the work of Jose Mauricio Nunes Garcia in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. A frequent recitalist and performer of operetta, Dr.

Dantzler can be heard on many cast recordings on both the Albany Records and Operetta Archives Labels. Her latest recording with Albany Records was as Princess Marghanza in John Philip Sousa’s comic opera El Capitan. She holds degrees from Skidmore College, The Eastman School of Music, and The University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Dantzler is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Voice at Oakland University in Rochester, MI, where she has been on faculty since 2010. Her students have appeared in National Tours, Off Broadway, and in opera houses and concert halls across the country.

Don Brewer grew up in Michigan and graduated from Western Michigan University with a BFA in Musical Theater Performance. His credits include: Broadway: Les Miserables (original Broadway production), The Pirate Queen (original cast member), Les Miserables (2006 revival production). Broadway National Tours: The Who’s Tommy, The Will Rogers Follies, Les Miserables.

Regional Productions: Mamma Mia! (Las Vegas Broadway production), Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well and Living in Paris (Capital Rep Theatre), The Apple Tree (Goodspeed Opera House), On the Twentieth Century (Goodspeed Opera House). Television: Rescue Me (guest star—FX Network), The Unusuals (guest star—ABC network). As a director/choreographer, Don has been a part of over 30 productions all over the country from New York to New Jersey. Don currently works in the musical theatre department at Oakland University- and is the proud father of his beautiful daughter, Georgia Brewer.

Kristen Bell grew up in Huntington Woods, MI. She attended Shrine High School. She began her acting career starring in stage productions and attended the Tisch School of Arts in New York. In 2001, she made her Broadway debut as Becky Thatcher in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and starred in the Broadway revival of The Crucible the following year. In 2004, she had a role in the film Spartan and received praise for her performance in Gracie’s Choice.

Bell gained critical acclaim for her first major role as the title character in the teen noir drama television series Veronica Mars(2004–07). For her performance she was awarded a Saturn Award for Best Actress on Television. She reprised the eponymous role in the 2014 film continuation of the series. During her time on Veronica Mars, Bell appeared as Mary Lane in the film Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical (2005), a reprise of the role she had played in the New York musical upon which the film was based. From 2007 to 2008, Bell starred as Elle Bishop in the sci-fi drama series Heroes.

In 2008, she had her breakout film role as the title character in Forgetting Sarah Marshall. She has since appeared in a number of comedy films, including Couples Retreat (2009), When in Rome(2010), You Again

(2010), The Boss (2016), Bad Moms (2016) and A Bad Moms Christmas (2017). Bell garnered further recognition for voicing Princess Anna in the Disney animated fantasy film Frozen (2013), the short films Frozen Fever (2015) and Olaf’s Frozen Adventure (2017), and the upcoming Frozen 2 (2019). From 2012 to 2016, she starred as Jeannie van der Hooven, the female lead on the Showtime series House of Lies. Since 2016, she has starred in the main role of Eleanor Shellstrop on the NBC comedy series The Good Place.

1) Complete on-line registration at www.shrineschools.com and submit materials describedbelow via email to [email protected] by May 15, 2018

2) Performance résumé including any recent performing arts recognitions/awards

3) Head shot (may be school photo or personal photo – need not be 8 X10)

4) Confidential Teacher Recommendation Letter. Please have your recommendation letter emailed to [email protected] by May 15, 2018

5) Your video is for placement purposes & to help us select repertoire for you. Prepare a Video of applicant singing two (2) contrasting selections: Tempo: one up-tempo, one down-tempo.Length: each song should be between 1 minute to 1&1/2 minutes.Frame the applicant from head to toe in the video. At beginning of each video announce your name, age, current grade, school, song title & show. You may use cuts from festivals or other performances but stick with time limits.Accompaniment is required. You may sing with piano, guitar, karaoke track, etc. Smart phone video is acceptable. You may condense to a zip file for easier submission. Label all files “MTIW- then your first name & last name.”Submit video via email and your online application in two separate files.
