Oct. 13, 2014 Principal’s Message Dear Friends and Families of Mountain View Elementary, It’s been a very smooth start to our new school year, and here we are in October already! Thank you to everyone who helped in our recent World’s Finest Chocolate fund raiser and PTA’s MAD DASH 5K and Carnival! These events couldn’t have happened without the countless selfless hours of volunteer work and contributions of so many. This high level of volunteer work has been an ongoing source of great pride for us at Mountain View, and literally a day doesn’t go by in which we are grateful for what so many do for us and our students and teachers. We are beginning to notice a somewhat new trend, however – while we see huge support and turnout for school-wide activities and events, many of our teachers are reporting having a difficult time getting parents to volunteer on a day-to-day basis in their classrooms. We hear reports that volunteers are plenty for field trips, classroom parties, and the ‘fun’ or ‘occasional’ things. Teachers are having difficulty getting volunteer help on a day-to-day basis. We know everyone’s lives are crazy busy, and we appreciate any help we can get. We can’t help wonder, however, if sometimes we’re our ‘own worst enemy?’ In other words, when we have events and activities at which so many volunteers attend, and we make a point to brag about it every chance we get, we fear we may be creating a condition in which we are promoting a false sense of, “don’t worry about it, someone else will volunteer because there are always so many!” I am reminded of a story that many of you have probably already heard. “It is called Whose Job Is It?” Whose Job Is It? This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was asked to do it. Everybody was sure Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody's job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done. Our school is so successful because of the wonderful support we get from our parents and volunteers like you. We encourage “Everybody” to check in with your children’s teachers to ask if there is an hour or two each week during which you could be of service. We want to keep the amazing legacy of our parent volunteers strong. Please don’t make the presumption that the job is getting done by someone else. We need the ongoing support and of all of our parents to keep us strong and provide the best educational experience possible for our kids! What a great start to this school year! We had a very successful carnival, I especially lovedthe dunk tank - didn't you? We also have a great new art docent committee working hardfor us, and we have our inaugural Mother/Son kickball was a huge success. There are somany great things going on at Mountain View! I always love the beginning of a new school year.I secretly (or not so secretly) love school supplies, there's nothing like a fresh box of crayons or freshly sharpenedpencils. The main reason I love a new school year is it reminds me of new beginnings, the chance to do anything,accomplish anything. I feel more like setting goals this time of year than I do on January 1st. Maybe that reasonis just the way school works. Our children naturally have new goals for a new school year and we expect them tolearn new things and work on things that were hard for them last year. Why don't we, as parents, do the same? Ithink it is important for our children to see us set goals or to attempt to work on things that are difficult for us,and I especially think it is important for our children to see us doing things for other people. So I challenge youthis school year to set a new goal or to give a little more of yourself for someone else in need.
As you read this you might say to yourself, well that's all fine and good, but let's see you back up that talk withsome action. So I will tell you that this school year I'm giving more of myself to be the PTA president. You maylaugh, but it was a conscience choice on my part. I knew this would be difficult for me and that it would makeme leave my comfort zone, and it would stretch me as a person, but I decided to accept the challenge. Some daysI have come home very tired and I am in bed the same time as my daughters, but I get up the next morning and Ido more things. My children know that some days are difficult for me and that some things I prepare for makeme nervous or anxious, but I'm glad they see that! They see me doing hard things and then they start to think,"Hey, if mom can do hard things, so can I!" And again, most importantly, they see me helping other people,helping our school community.
I'm not asking you to give up all your time. I know that we all have things we have to do, but I am asking you foran extra hour, or maybe even two. Not a week, or even a month, but just an extra hour or two this year. If wehave 500 families at Mountain View and each family contributes an extra hour this year - well, you can imaginewhat a difference that could make. Ask your kids what they would like you to do, ask their teachers, or even signup to volunteer for something you've never done before. We always need volunteers and I would love to get toknow more of you! Even though I have made personal sacrifices to be the PTA president this year, I have yet toregret the time that I spend at the school, especially in my daughter's classes. Do I miss watching some of my TVshows? Yes. Do I sometimes wish I had more time to go grocery shopping? Absolutely. Do I wish some days thatI could go back home after I drop my kids off and crawl back into bed? Definitely. But I also know that I amtrading that time spent doing something good, for time spent doing something great. Can I keep up this pace andbe the PTA president for years and years? That is a big NO. But this is my time to give a little extra of myself andto show my children that I think helping our school is important. This can be your year too. Because while I amtrying my best, I could sure use your help.

Hi! My name is StaceyCarter. I am so excited to beteaching atMountain Viewthis year. I amentering my 10thyear of teachingand spent myprevious 9 years atParksideElementary inClinton teaching3rd and 5th grade.
I grew up in Clinton andgraduated from Northridge HighSchool. I had many friends who grew up in the Mountain Viewboundaries. Following high school, I went to college at WeberState University.
I married my high school sweetheart and we have a daughterwho is six and a son who is four. My hobbies include reading tomyself and reading to my kids! I am also trying to become adecent gardener.
I’m Ms. Kenfield. This is myfirst year teaching and I am soexcited to be a part ofthe Mountain Viewfamily. I am a recentgraduate of WeberState University,where I received myB.S. in ElementaryEducation with andemphasis in math andESL. I am a Utah transplant. Iwas born and raised in Billings,MT, so that means I’m acountry girl. I love all things thathave to do with ranching and farming, especially animals andcountry music. I left Montana in 1996 and have lived inVirginia, Nevada, and now here in Utah.
When I am not in school or working I like to be outdoorscamping, fishing, and just enjoying the beauty that surroundsus. I have been married to my wonderful husband for nineyears. We enjoy traveling, camping, and watching all kinds ofsports. Some of our favorite teams are Weber State (football andbasketball), the Utes, REAL Soccer, and of course THE Packers(go pack go!). We also have spoiled rotten fur babies that takeup the remainder of our time.

I am a transplant from SouthDakota (Iowa and Minnesota).I grew up in afamily of 5 kids andall are names startwith “D”. Myfavorite teams arethe MinnesotaTwins and Vikings!
I am a graduatefrom South DakotaState University (Go Jackrabbits)and Weber State (Go Wildcats).I started as a staff assistant (10years) in the Ogden School District and also taught my first fiveyears there. This will be my seventh year teaching in DavisSchool District.
My husband (for 25 years) and I have one son, who is a seniorthis year at Northridge. We love to travel. We have been toBelgium, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Netherlands, Bonaire,Belize, Guatemala, Cozumel (where I got to swim with whalesharks!), and most recently the Dominican Republic. We alsolike scuba diving, rappelling, and camping. I love reading andyou will rarely find me without a book (or most likely mykindle) in my purse!

Zone:
Please turn off your vehiclewhenever possible to improve theair quality around our school and
our state.The entry to the parking lot is ONE WAY/ENTER
ONLY.
The ONLY place to exit is where the parking lot meets thebus zone near our new crosswalk. (See map above).
There is a crosswalk between the drop off zone and the buszone–PLEASE USE IT and do not let students walk throughtraffic to get to school.
There are TWO lanes in the new drop off zone. One fordropping off and picking up and one for driving through
without stopping.
When picking up, please do not pull up to the school untilyou see your children.
Please have students enter and exit from the curb side, nearestthe school if at all possible.
It’s up to all of us to keep our kids safe. The number onething we can all do is remember to slow down and be patientand polite in all areas around the school. Our children’s safetydepends on it! Thanks for your help and understanding!

Our awesome Student Council showed us the way and helped keep us safe on our earlymorning journey. We want to thank our great Student Council and Mrs. Fisher for helping today.
