Where Lebanon is located

• Lebanon is located in Western Asia.• It’s located on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean

Sea.• It’s bordered on the north and east by Syria, on the

south by Israel and on the west by the Mediterranean Sea.

Geographic Features of Lebanon

• Most of Lebanon is covered with mountains except for the narrow coastline and the Beqaa Valley.

• Lebanon to the east of the Mediterranean Sea. • Lebanon has an area of 10,400 sq km, extending 217 km

northeast-southwest, and 56 km southeast-northwest.• 1.6% of Lebanon is Water

Climate of Lebanon

• Lebanon has a moderate Mediterranean Climate.• In coastal areas, winter is normally cool and rainy, while

in the summer, it hot and humid.• In winter in higher areas near the mountains, the

temperature usually drops below 0 °C with lots of snow, and in summers, its very hot and dry.

• Lebanon receives a very big amount of rain fall each year. North-eastern Lebanon receives little rainfall because the mountains that blocks lots of the rain clouds.

Environment of Lebanon• There are three main Natural Reserves in Lebanon, Ammiq (deep)

Wetland, Al Shouf Cedar Nature Reserve and Horsh Ehden.• Natural vegetation in Lebanon has been destroyed and burnt that only a

little of it is regenerated.• What survived is a vegetation of brush and low trees, mostly oaks,

pines, cypresses, firs, junipers, and carobs. • Few wild animals survive in Lebanon, though, bears are normally seen in

the mountains.• The smaller animals found in Lebanon are deer, wildcats, hedgehogs,

squirrels, martens, dormice, and hares are also found.• The birds found in Lebanon are Flamingos, pelicans, cormorants, ducks,

herons, snipes, eagles, buzzards, kites, falcons and some times owls found in the mountains as well as woodpeckers.

Customs and Traditions of Lebanon

• The Lebanese celebrate events such as Christmas, Eid Al-Adha and Eid Al-Fitr (after Ramadan).

• In every Lebanese wedding, they have to have a “Zaffeh”. Zaffeh is the act of taking the wife to her husband.

• In many villages, a wedding keeps on going for up to 3 days.

• The color of Lebanese food is 1001 reflecting the Lebanese landscapes.

• One of the famous Lebanese foods is the Kubba.

Government of Lebanon

• Lebanon is a democratic republic with a parliamentary system of government and a cabinet headed by a Prime Minister. Its constitution is based on the separation of executive, legislative and judicial powers, with a president elected every 6 years.

Economy of Lebanon

• Lebanon doesn’t participate in much industrial activities because of their lack of raw materials and oil.

• Industry in Lebanon is mostly small time businesses with reassembling and packaging imported parts

• Lebanon’s beautiful climate, many historic landmarks and World Traditional Sites continues to attract big numbers of tourists to Lebanon each year.

• Beirut's airport, Rafiq Hariri International Airport, re-opened in September 2006 which is now helping in gaining money for the government.

Tourism in Lebanon

• Tourists in Lebanon mostly go and visit old sites in old places such as Al-Zarafa Land.

• Tourists can also go to traditional Lebanese restaurants such as the Lebanese Cuisine.
