Customer Scenario – Cyber Extortion

A customer receives a phone call from someone

claiming to be an employee of their internet service

provider. Under the guise of security, they request to

access their computer remotely. After the customer

grants access, they are locked out of their computer

and the person on the phone demands $750 to unlock

it.

What coverage does the customer receive with my

Identity?

Answer:

We will reimburse the fees for a computer specialist to

respond to the cyber extortion, as well as the costs to

repair or replace the computer hardware and software

and to restore the data.

Note: We will not reimburse any extortion or ransom

payments made by the customer or anyone else on

their behalf.

Expense reimbursements do not apply to any situations where:

• The customer participated in fraudulent, dishonest or criminal acts

• The legal issue is clearly without grounds

• The customer has already been compensated for or is seeking compensation elsewhere

• It relates to the customer’s trade, profession, occupation, employment or business venture
