FAZtor’s Notes By Fr. Arnold Zamora “Country roads, take me home, to a place I belong.” This particular lyric of a song by the late John Denver kept playing in my mind these past few days. Understandably, because I was dealing with people who have gone home to our Heavenly Father, to a place where they belong. Peggy McCarthy, a dear and long time parishioner of Holy Name (53 years) departed from our earthly home on February 28, 2012. As wonderful as she was, she was wondrously surrounded by her wonderful family during her final days. I was privileged to talk to her and minister the Sacrament of the Anointing to her. She was ready for her trip on the heavenly road to that place where she definitely belongs. I was also able to give the same Sacrament of the Anointing to a friend’s mom who belonged to St. Gabriel, our neighboring parish. A few hours later she was taken home to the place where she belongs. I went to Holy Cross for the gravesite service of Lina Beck. She stated in her will for a priest from Holy Name to bless her body before it was finally laid to rest. I am sure she is now happy to be reunited with her rela-tives, who have all been taken home to that place where they belong. Back to this earthly home where we still belong, this weekend is our Homebound Mass with the Anointing of the Sick. Four times a year that we have this mass specially offered for those who are frequently now at home or where they are residing, due to advancement in years and/or sickness. Our church and its facilities have advanced in years too. So, we have created a Building and Facility Management committee composed of: Colleen Durkin, Mike Downing, Fred Grafelman and Silver Cusi. They will be the eyes on our aging buildings, assessing the condition of our facility, making sure the necessary re-pairs and improvements will take place. Heaven is our real home, but Holy Name parish is yet the place where we belong right now. May we take ownership of our church and make it as our home.

Teacher: “Whoever answers my next question, can go home.”

A boy throws his bag out through the window. Teacher: “Who threw the bag? Boy: Me . . . I'm Going Home!

How will you help

Jesus in disguise? The Catholic Relief Services Collection

“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me.” (Mt 25:35) Next week, our parish will take up The Catholic Relief Services Collection. This collection supports six Catholic agencies that touch more than 100 million lives around the world. The funds from the Collection help provide food to the hungry, welcome and support to displaced refugees, and invaluable life skills to those seeking a bet-ter life. How will you help? Next week, please give gener-ously to The Catholic Relief Services and Jesus in dis-guise.

TOTAL ALLEGIANCE In previous weeks we have seen how the theme of covenant—as a preparation for the baptis-mal covenant celebrated at Easter—occupies an important place in our cycle of Lenten readings. The notion of cove-nant as a relationship between two parties carries with it an expectation of mutual accountability and fidelity to the terms of the covenant. When God forged the covenant with the Jewish people on Mt. Sinai, it was a pledge of God’s protec-tion, and it would forever permit them familiar access as the Chosen People. For their part, the Jewish people were to observe the dictates of the law, summarized most succinctly here in the form of the Ten Commandments. To be in a cov-enantal relationship with the Lord God requires an exclusive relationship, just as discipleship with Jesus—ritualized in baptism—demands a total allegiance to him and none other.
