Admission Awards Application Named awards requiring separate application 2019-2020 Deadline: February 15, 2019 Awards Listing Robert & Eva (Bertram) Cole Canadian Bursary (Arts and Science: $8,000 X 4 years; Engineering: $15,000 X 4 years) Established in April 1997 by Robert Cole, BSc (Eng.) 1951 and Eva (Bertram) Cole, BA 1951, and last revised on November 2018. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and involvement in extra-curricular activities. Awarded to students entering first year of any first entry undergraduate degree program in the Faculty of Arts and Science or the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science. Each bursary is renewable for three subsequent years provided a minimum GPA of 2.0 is maintained each year, financial need and involvement in extra-curricular activities remains evident. Dr. Ben Brachman Scholarship ($2,200) Awarded to a Canadian student from a secondary school in Saskatchewan with a parent who was born outside the United States or Canada. John Brooks Foundation Scholarship ($1,800) Established in recognition of the achievements of the John Brooks Community Foundation and Scholarship Fund and awarded to students entering any undergraduate degree program at Queen's University. Students must have a combination of high academic standing, involvement in school or community activities and other activities. Preference will be given to students who have been involved in the work of the John Brooks Community Foundation. Queen's FIRST Robotics Admission Scholarship ($2,500) Established in June 2014 by the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students who have participated on a FIRST Robotics Competition team in high school who are entering first year of any first entry undergraduate degree program in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science. Robert J. Child Entrance Scholarship ($1,400) Established by Arthur J. E. Child, O.C., B.Comm., M.A., LL.D. '83, in memory of his brother, Robert J. Child, Science '49, and awarded on the basis of academic standing to a student entering the first year of any undergraduate program. Preference is given to descendants of British, Canadian, or American servicemen who served in the Italian theatre of the Second World War. The Commerce 1981 Entrance Scholarship ($10,000 x 4 years) Established in February 2007 by members of the class of Commerce 1981 and awarded on the basis of academic achievement to full-time students entering first year of the Commerce program at Queen's University. The candidates will have completed their secondary education in a publicly funded high school. The scholarship will be awarded in the following order of preference: (i) to students who are the first generation in their families to attend a post-secondary institution; (ii) who have had paid or unpaid work in their last two years of high school; (iii) to students who are disabled, aboriginal or visible minority candidates. This scholarship will be renewable for three years provided that in the first year the student maintains a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the Bachelor of Commerce Program. In each subsequent year the student must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5 in the Bachelor of Commerce Program. Project Hero Award (Tuition x 4yrs plus Residence in Year 1) Established by Queen's University and awarded on the basis of demonstrated academic achievement to a student who is the dependant of Canadian Forces personnel deceased while serving in an active military mission. The student will be entering the first year of any first entry undergraduate degree program and must be under the age of 26 in September 2019. The award is renewable for three subsequent years provided a satisfactory academic average is maintained each year. Shad Valley Admission Scholarship ($2,000) Established in February 2014 by Queen's University and awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students entering the first year of the Bachelor of Computer Honours degree program in the School of Computing. Debating Entrance Scholarship ($1,500) Awarded to the top individual speaker at the Canadian National High School Debating Tournament who registers in the first year of a first entry undergraduate program at Queen's University. John W. McVicar Scholarship ($1,200) Awarded to a candidate who achieved high standing on the Senior High School Mathematics Contest. Note: Queen's University reserves the right to revise or withdraw any award without prior notice.
