Nantucket Coastal Resilience PlanThe Coastal Resilience Plan draws on the cherished built and natural heritage of Nantucket to create a community-supported roadmap to implementation for a series of layered flood control and adaptation approaches that lessen the loss from storm surges and help the community adapt to rising seas and eroding coastlines. In coordination with other ongoing adaptation and sustainability initiatives, the plan addresses the whole island and county while respecting the unique characteristics of each neighborhood. Driven by the inclusive and equitable engagement of all, the plan aspires to create social, environmental, and economic benefits and value to everyone who will share in Nantucket’s future.

SAMPLE OF PREVIOUS STUDIES

Page 14: NANTUCKET COASTAL RESILIENCE PLAN

05 January 2021 14

• What are the shared challenges and opportunities? What are the conflicts and tensions that need to be resolved?

• What information and recommendations from prior studies should we carry forward? Which need to re-assessed?

• What are the most urgent needs to reduce risk?

• What do decision-makers and key stakeholders need to be able to move forward immediately?

• What are the key gaps in knowledge and understanding?

• Where can we help advance and catalyze? What are the low hanging fruits?

• How can this project add social, economic, and ecological value and improve quality of life on Nantucket?

KEY QUESTIONS THAT DRIVE OUR PROCESSThis project should honor, leverage, and advance, but not supplant, disrupt, or duplicate other resilience efforts on Nantucket.

Other questions that we should be considering?
