PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Welcome back to a new school year. We are looking forward to another productive year and moving forward with many initiatives to further improve the school for the students and the community. Students We welcome our intake of Year 7 students, and look forward to building positive relationships with each student, their family and the community. We also look forward to the leadership of our 2020 School Captains: Ella Geyer, Elissa Simmons, Tayah Turnbull and Rebecca Willoughby – our all girl team! Staff There have been some staff changes and we welcome to our teaching staff Ms Tink, Learning and Support, Mr Musgrove, HSIE and we welcome back Ms Parsonage to our new MC room. Cathy Galindo, Suzanne Kent and Kellie Wilson have joined our School Learning Support staff. A new year begins A new year means a fresh start and for most students that means continuing to work hard and follow the right procedures. In the first few weeks we want to make school a positive learning experience and we will be concentrating on a few small things which will set the tone for achievement:-

Uniform – I would ask that parents and carers continue to support the school in this area. As always, please contact us if you are having difficulty acquiring the uniform. We are introducing a new school jumper (pictured left). This jumper is jersey style and features a yellow collar and will also have the school logo embroidered on it once ordered. The jumpers and the existing school jacket will be the two options for students to wear this winter. Order forms will be sent home soon and payment plan options will also be available if required. Equipment – It is vital that students have the right resources as quickly as possible Please let us know if there are any issues with the supply of equipment and we can help. It is very important that every student has a

bag, each day – this indicates they have the necessary equipment and they are ready to start each day on the front foot. Punctuality and attendance – It is very important that students are organised and on time. Furthermore, there is every reason to expect that being on time to class is the norm. Punctuality is an expectation in the workplace and it is important to establish this habit. Communication – Apart from the traditional means of contact, don’t forget that we have a Facebook page, which has been very well utilised and the school website which has a lot of information. We also have available our Parent Portal which is a very useful tool. If you need a code or assistance to set up the Parent Portal please call the school on 6889 1499 for assistance. On occasions we also send text messages to parents and carers. It is extremely important your contact details are kept up to date, please advise the office if there are any changes. Meet the Teacher – a meet the teacher get-together will be held on Tuesday 25 February.

Phil Rufus Principal PDHPE NEWS Hi everyone and welcome to 2020.

This year is set to be an exciting one for the PDHPE department. Stage 4 PDHPE are currently learning about the benefits of physical activity and correct nutrition for our bodies. In practical classes they are doing fitness testing and learning different exercises to help improve their fitness. Stage 5 PDHPE are learning about advertising and how it effects consumer choice. PASS students are learning about the skeletal and muscular system. They should hopefully be able to enlighten you on some of the information they have learned so far. In their practical classes they are completing alternate activities such as ultimate Frisbee and European Handball.

SCHOOL SPORT Last Wednesday we held our annual school swimming carnival. While it was a rainy day, it didn’t hinder the outstanding performances and participation by our students who attended. We increased the number of novelty events this year and saw a major increase in students contributing to their total house points. There were some fantastic individual efforts as well as team efforts in the pool and some awesome comradery and support for each other displayed throughout the day. Congratulations to Doongara as they were the winning house for the day. Age champions will be announced later in the term at the Merit Assembly. A big thank you to all the staff that assisted on the day, the Macquarie Yabbies for borrowing their starter and for the parents for coming to support our wonderful students. In the next few weeks students will hear about some more house competitions to be completed during the term. These points will go towards the end of year house total and will hopefully see more students participating for their house. We will also be running a teacher v student competition (I’m sure the teachers have it in the bag already).

UPCOMING EVENTS Students need to keep listening to the notices for upcoming sport trials. There are many that occur in Terms 1 and 2 and Narromine have always been strong contenders. Our Cross Country Carnival and Athletics carnival are early next term. Dates will be advised shortly. If you have any concerns regarding your child in PDHPE or sport, please don’t hesitate to contact the PDHPE department. We are more than happy to discuss your concerns or answer your questions. Rebecca Smyth Head Teacher ENGLISH – MISS A Welcome to 2020! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and holiday. In English we will be continuing wide reading in most classes.

School Learning Support Officers (SLSO) Kellie Wilson I’m married to a farmer and a mum of four girls and one boy. After living in Cargo near Orange for 30 years we bought a farm in 2017 near Tomingley. We absolutely love Narromine! Before moving here I had worked in Pharmacy and Pathology at Canowindra/Orange and I also worked in Pathology in Narromine and loved it and the patients. I felt the need to change

direction and try a new role as a SLSO and hopefully I can take on this role with a passion for making a difference in a child’s life for just one day or every day.
